Listen. I'm just tryna understand why the kpop community hates Kpop Demon Hunters? Like I'm not an expert, so I'd like to know. No hate or anything, but it seems like it gets a lot of pushback from kpop fans in general.

I remember I posted something about It helping bring a massive wave to kpop, then I just got pure slander about it. Like people told me this isn't helping at all, yet millions of people have been brought in by the film. Then another dude told me that Korea was closed off the western culture of pop until this movie. So I'm generally curious. Not looking for a fight. submitted by /u/calmrestsleep [link] [comments]

1.467. Just watched GO! by CORTIS--My Thoughts So Far

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I want to focus on their whole concept and their sound as an extension of their concept. HYBE is marketing Cortis as an authentic group of teenagers making hiphop. A lot of people are calling them 'cocky teenagers,' but I think simply teenagers/kids is a more fitting word. Overall, I would title their concept: a couple kids with a big budget. I get the kpop audience is a wide ranging one, so your proximity to high school might be very far off and blurry, but as someone who's only a few years removed from high school, they look, sound, and behave like that one group of sophmores-senior boys who think they're really trendy, stylish, and are lowk obsessed with black culture, take that as you might. Anyway. I think their target audience here is not the typical kpop stan, teen/early-adult girl/woman, which is why they're facing a lot of criticism. There's a dissonance between they typical kpop consumer and the targeted audience: teen boys. That's not to say there are no women and girls who consume hiphop, we exist duh, but when launching a musician, the marketing trend rn is relatability sells. My final thoughts on this is I honestly don't know if this is going to work. Again, HYBE is marketing Cortis as an authentic group of kids making hiphop, but can you even really be an authentic hiphop artist if you don't have the support of the black community? If they don't show any sincerity and appreciation for the roots of hiphop (black communities!!!), I think the most success they'd see is headlining HITC one day( infamously used black culture as a stepping stone into the mainstream) or perhaps a public figure similar to Drake, consumed by general audiences, perpetuates antiblackness, doesn't have the support of the culture. OR, they could show genuine appreciation, love, and care for the culture and we might see how it goes from there. Anyway, I will be keeping notes on them as they show more of themselves. submitted by /u/Sellingoldkpopstuff [link] [comments]

Personally for me is the ones who tries to do aegyo in front of the idols or that one time where a ateez fan said that mingi pointing at something was at them and the wolfs found it's prey something like that.. OMG I just know ateez knows about that which makes it worse 😭 submitted by /u/hearts4him_ [link] [comments]

1.470. I'm honestly so tired of all the racism against South Korea by International Fans as a Korean person

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Unpopular Opinion because I have never seen this ever expressed by anyone else. Nate Pann and Insitz is not representative of the entire South Korean population. Its really like reading the racist comments under Yahoo News and saying that's what all Americans think. The whole Kpop gossip industry is based on dishonestly mining these two websites for comments and unfairly posting it as "K-netziens say" news and getting hatred towards South Koreans as a whole when many South Koreans don't even post about K-pop. Just because some Korean feminists have very harsh opinions of Korean men and South Korean society does not then give you permission as a non-Korean to use that to be racist to Koreans online under the guise of feminism or being a concerned person. We all know your motivation is less about genuine empathy than doing your 2 minutes of hate against a country you are obsessed with because you watch way too many K-dramas and K-pop. Please ask yourself if I did the same thing with Iranian or African-Americans, where I cherrpicked some Iranian/African-American women online who have issues with Iranian men or African-American men, is it OK for me to then parrot those same comments? I see a lot of MAGA people saying those same things as a justification on why Koreans and Asians should be deported from America and America be a white only country. Ultimately it doesn't matter if your racism comes from a progressive or leftist bent its always gonna align you with the far right. I also think because of a lack of gatekeeping and many english speaking gyopo Koreans bizarrely want to join in on these anti Korean hate trains that we've gotten waaay to lax on what is and what isn't OK to say. STOP IT. submitted by /u/jinusong [link] [comments]

1.471. Songs that idols/groups are probably tired of performing, maybe even vocalized it?

It’s always so interesting and sometimes funny to me when celebrities mention songs they hate performing, or have gotten sick of performing. Whether it’s too difficult to perform or just too repetitive, I can’t blame them. I was wondering if anyone knew any cases like these in K-pop lol tour announcement Fans: I hope they perform [insert song that’s been sung a million times]! The artist probably: oh BROTHER. đŸ«© submitted by /u/CeCeAlexus [link] [comments]

1.474. Lack of big sets and bright colors in kpop music videos now

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I've noticed in the last 2 years especially kpop mvs have really moved away from the big sets and bright colors that was a signature of the genre for years. Watching the new group cortis' mv it made me realize a lot of 5th gen bgs have debuted with this very natural light/retro looking color grading mvs completely shot outdoors in very unassuming locations like the streets of la or something. Even bp who are known for their extremely grand sets in their mvs went for a pretty muted outdoor location for their new song and the mv too seemed pretty subdued color and opulence wise compared to their past work. Could this be a reason for the general trend of lower views in kpop mvs these days or just a current trend in music videos everywhere? I know that a lot of groups still do the bright colors and exuberant sets like ive in heya but in general theres definitely been a huge shift away from what makes kpop mvs distinctly kpop submitted by /u/PrimaryTomato3310 [link] [comments]
