100. Will the success of K-pop Demon Hunters, specifically EJAE, change the dynamic between songwriters and the artists?

  • 18 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Since the success kpop demon hunters, EJAE haas been getting a lot of recognition, and one thing I have notied is that all her demos and OST songs over the past several years are coming back to light. For example, she sang the Red Velvet demo version of "Psycho", among several others. Now that the songwriters themselves are getting more credit, are the songwriters themselves going to be a bigger part of an artist's promotion cycle going forward? For example, EJAE says she wants to work with BTS, do you think if EJAE writes their next single, the promotion is going to involve active involvement with the actual songwriter? It seems now there is no interaction at all, and you have to look for the writing credits if you wnat to know, but now will it be much more publicized ? submitted by /u/AccurateInflation167 [link] [comments]

104. The Toxicity (overdone topic, but hear me out lol)

  • 19 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I know this has been a recurring topic in a lot of fandom spaces for the last few years, not just the Kpop space, but I really think we don’t talk enough about the fact that along with a whole load of crap, one of the biggest factors in the toxicity getting so out of control in the kpop space (and all more niche fandom spaces) in the last few years, is that all the normie, popular, school bully types who used to make fun of stuff like kpop, anime etc, joined these fandom spaces during the pandemic when they were bored with nothing to do and they never bothered to learn fandom etiquette, and in a lot of cases just disrespectfully steamrolled over it and brought all the behaviour they’ve displayed in other aspects of their lives and social situations to these fandoms. It’s not like the kpop space was ever perfect. There’s always been bullying and toxicity whether it’s between fans or fans hating on idols, but there’s just this specific brand of toxicity that’s observably consistent across most fandom spaces rn, in or out of kpop, that’s characterised by the same behaviour that a lot of us have been mocked or bullied with for being ourselves and having certain hobbies. It’s kinda wild as an adult in their late 20s because it feels like being thrust back into a concentrated mess of everyone and everything being attacked by popular kid, high school bullies all day every day. It’s really sad. Before I go, I feel like I have to make the disclaimer again: I am well aware this isn’t the only issue in the kpop fan space. I’m aware that the kpop fandom was never perfect. It’s merely observation and a continuation of a popular topic that’s been prevalent across a lot of fandom spaces for the past few years. submitted by /u/Known_Introduction72 [link] [comments]

110. Am I approaching the way I listen to Kpop wrong?

  • 20 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

So I have been listening to Kpop for about eight years very consistently. But even before Kpop took a lot of my listening time when I was younger I listened to Hyuna and Loveholic (that likely dates me lol) Lately I've been concerned because I feel a very big disconnect between my perception of music and that of other listeners. This couldn't be more obvious to me than from the kpop subreddit threads regarding Itzy's latest Japanese EP and Twice's TEN the story continues even Gidle's Japanese release or earlier Katseye (I Liked Gnarly fine I felt everything else was mid or lower) All the threads were incredibly positive and heaping praise on every single song as well as the performances themselves. I find myself alarmed because I found zero enjoyment in either while so many other fans loved it One thing I noticed is that lots of the comments focused specifically on vocals and vocal techniques and textures. I will never take away that these girls all have lovely and perfectly marketable voices but if song structure and composition are not of a certain level I can't get into it. It's especially difficult with so much more English being used to where I am much more critical of the lyrics as opposed to Korean where I'm not going to hold the lyricist accountable when I do not natively speak their language So that brings the question, Am I approaching Kpop in the wrong way? Is taking songs in as a whole instead of isolating elements such as the vocals hurting my enjoyment of releases? For what it's worth here's the releases I have really enjoyed this past year or so Nmixx FE304 Twice Enemy AtHeart Plot Twist Kiss of Life 224 Twice With Youth Twice Strategy Red Velvet Cosmic submitted by /u/axrevolutionai [link] [comments]

111. i-dle’s Soyeon is being unfairly dragged in the R.Tee ‘Damdadi’ MV mess when she didn’t even direct it.

  • 21 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I just finished reading an article about french artist Yseult calling out R.Tee's "Damdadi" MV featuring Soyeon of I-DLE for allegedly plagiarizing her music video "Bitch You Could Never". The similarities they pointed out, from the choreography to the collapsing shelves and visual motifs, are seriously undeniable. Plagiarism has always been an issue in kpop. What's driving me insane is that this keeps happening, and what makes me feel genuinely awful is that Soyeon is getting dragged into the worst of the toxic online discourse. The article clearly shows (and her behind-the-scenes comments confirm) that she was a feature artist on the track, providing her vocal and folowing the direction given. The MV's director, Hong Minho, even released a statement taking full responsibility and clarifying that both R.Tee and Soyeon had no involvement in the creative direction or selecting references. Yet, she's the one getting attacked online. It's so disheartening to see an artist, who was hired for a feature, and Yseult who simply stood up for herself, get all the racist and hateful backlash when the actual production team and director were responsible for this mess. submitted by /u/_berrystrawberry [link] [comments]

112. I don't understand how S.Coups got exempt from the army

  • 21 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

First, fuck mandatory conscription, it sucks...I saw how it hurt my bias when he was doing very well and had to leave for 2 years. I know this is unfair for me to ask, but I watch a lot of Seventeen performances and I see S.Coups dancing super hard, jumping, running. There's one video where he jumps up onto a platform on stage like he's spider man. Tons of choreo etc. I'm not seeing how army training would be different from the constant choreo and practice they gotta do submitted by /u/Dismal_Living6298 [link] [comments]

113. I honestly don't see any point of hybe doing survival shows

  • 21 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

They can just debuted them quietly behind the scenes without any involments from the fans and it would still be successful as long as the songs hit rather than wasting money for survival shows. The main reason for their groups that debuted from survival shows is so successful right now is the song not because they formed via survival shows. Katseye and illit didn't blew up until touch and magnetic went viral and became a hits. The shows that formed them dream academy and runext flopped when it came out, Majority of their fans right now never watched it and probably didn't even know that they're from survival shows. Same with Enhypen like majority of engenes right now probably never watched i-land. submitted by /u/Party-Confection417 [link] [comments]

The song would've sounded so good with a talented female vocalist or the least with her own team member rosé but jisoo sounds underskilled in front of Zayn😵‍💫 (this is totally positive criticism, writing it because I expected something really better considering Zayn being on it. no offence to jisoo but kpop suits her, not this). submitted by /u/ButterflyUnfair7782 [link] [comments]
