My experience with girl groups and fanboys (positive)

I’m a woman and I mostly listen to GGs and attend GG concerts. Recently I’ve been wanting to share some appreciation with the fanboys that truly show up for and support their fave groups. I think there’s often a question that comes up about why BGs tend to have more successful fandoms than GGs, and I think the answer is simple: a lot of women prefer bgs and a lot of men prefer ggs, but society views this kind of fan behavior as “feminine”, and discourages men who engage in it. Both toxic masculinity not allowing men to express themselves that way, and women who deem it as “weird” or “creepy”. But that has totally not been my experience. I recently went to VIVIZ and was super impressed by all the fanboys who were super excited to engage with the show, sing and dance along and just support their faves. I also went to LSFM and handed out freebies and all the fanboys I met were super polite and respectful, appreciated the freebies and complimented my outfit just like it was BG show. One of my fave groups, QWER, is touring soon and their fanbase is known for being majority male. All the Bawiges I’ve been chatting with leading up to the tour are super nice and supportive of the banner project and freebies I’m planning to make. Some people at other stops have also planned banners as well. As a GG stan it sometimes feels like an uphill battle when it comes to getting people hyped up to support them, so whenever I see fanboys being super active and engaging and supporting their faves fully, it truly makes me happy. And it’s a side note, but female fans of BGs can also be extremely weird and creepy. We’ve recently had incidents like a fan at Ateez send off asking one of them (San or Mingi?) if he “prefers chocolate or vanilla”, had a fan try to kiss Jin without consent, women showing up in lingerie in fancalls, and fully grown women lusting after underage members of Cortis. There’s issues and weirdos in all fandoms and while I’m sure I’m bound to meet some weirdo fanboys as well, I just don’t find the idea that fanboys are somehow weirder than fangirls to be fair or true at all. I know the social climate in Korea also may be different, so I’m just talking about my experience as an American meeting other American fans. submitted by /u/talixsims [link] [comments]

Articles / Timeline 250422 This day marks one year since HYBE launched their audit of Min Hee Jin and ADOR's management. Happy(?) 1st anniversary of the Megathreads! 250502 The 3rd hearing for Min Hee Jin vs. Belift Lab was set to take place but postponed to July 18th at Belift Lab's request. Each side is due to present their arguments/documents regarding plagiarism issues at the next meeting. (Source: Maeil Kyungjae) 250530 We learned that ADOR had filed for 'indirect enforcement' after their injunction was granted and NewJeans performed at ComplexCon back in March (Filed on April 4th according to the statement from NewJeans' representatives linked below). On the 30th, the 52nd Division of the Seoul Central District court further granted this request. The 'indirect enforcement' ruling means that each individual member of NewJeans will be fined 1 billion won (approx. $725,000) if they continue with entertainment activities independent of ADOR, which would be in violation of the injunction. This enforcement with potential fines does NOT apply to any of NewJeans' independent activities between the granting of the injunction and the granting of this 'indirect enforcement'. These fines will only apply to future activities going forward, or at least until rulings with NewJeans' appeal or the main contract validity case changes anything (next hearing on June 5th). (Source: Chosun Biz, MK Sports) The Korea Herald: Court orders NewJeans to pay Ador 1 billion won for each unauthorized activity Discussion Post Korea JoongAng Daily: Court orders NewJeans members to pay ADOR $725,600 for every independent entertainment activity A statement by NewJeans' representatives was made later in the day primarily acknowledging the indirect enforcement ruling, but reiterating that it is temporary and will no longer have an effect if NewJeans win their appeal of the injunction. (Source: Ilgan Sports) The 2nd hearing for Source Music's damages lawsuit against Min Hee Jin took place at the 12th Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Western District Court. (Quick recap: 1st was January 10th, 2nd was previously scheduled for March 14th, postponed per Source Music's request). Legal representatives were present. Source Music had a 20-minute presentation prepared, but Min Hee Jin's representatives objected to the inclusion of KakaoTalk messages in the presentation. They claimed the messages were illegally obtained and requested the hearing to be closed/private. Source Music denied the messages were obtained illegally, claiming they were gained from company devices with consent. The court went with a temporary compromise to keep the hearing public, but not allow discussion/display of the messages until they were reviewed again. A special hearing to review the messages will take place June 27th. (Source: Sports Today) 250605 The Seoul Central District Court Division 41 held the second hearing for ADOR seeking confirmation of validity for their exclusive contract with NewJeans. Only legal representatives were in attendance. NewJeans' side primarily argued that ADOR had not met their obligations and that their evidence they were preparing to support NewJeans' activities, like finding a new producer, was inadequate. ADOR's side argued that NewJeans' reasons for allegedly terminating their contract continually changed, indicating they are arbitrary and being made up with retroactive hindsight. The issue of some evidence being collected illegally also came up again from NewJeans' side. Judge Jung Hoe-Il specifically inquired if both/either sides were willing to come to an agreement, encouraging them to do so. NewJeans' representatives strongly indicated this was unlikely as the trust in ADOR had completely collapsed. ADOR's representatives indicated they could see negotiating an agreement once the court comes to a final decision. The 3rd hearing was set for July 24th. (Sources: X Sport News, Maeil Kyungjae) 250612 The next hearing regarding the Shareholder Agreement termination and exercising put/call options lawsuits between HYBE and Min Hee Jin was held at the Seoul Central District Court's 31st Division. Arguments from each side mostly re-tread what we've already covered. HYBE's side argued they were justified in ending the shareholder agreement due to the threat Min Hee Jin posed to the company. Min Hee Hin's side argued the timing of the audit/termination did not align purely with that concern and that some KakaoTalk messages and emails were obtained illegally and not admissable as evidence. HYBE also indicated they had a witness to give testimony at the next meeting, which the court accepted. The next hearing with closing arguments, was set for September 11th for both lawsuits. (Sources: Maeil Kyungjae, TV Daily, Sports Today) 250617 Following up from April 16th when NewJeans appealed the court's decision to uphold the injunction and halt on their independent activities, the Seoul High Court reaffirmed the earlier decision. The court rejected NewJeans' appeal. They determined there was no significant change in the material/arguments presented for the appeal and the original decision to grant ADOR's injunction was justified. There was further clarification that the management conflict between HYBE and Min Hee Jin, and her no longer being NewJeans' producer, did not constitute a valid argument for the alleged collapse of trust between ADOR and NewJeans. The group's withdrawal from ADOR is considered arbitrary, that their artistic freedom or activity is not impeded since they are able to do so within their exclusive contract, and that any damages resulting from attempting independent activities are self-inflicted. 1. It's unfortunate that in K-Pop favouritism it's based on visuals only.

More specifically, I'm talking about Giselle and even more specific i'm talking about clothes. I hate when groups have this only member looking so different from the rest, like standing out in a way if feels like a feat. At first, I thought this type of mistreatment was inexistent, and actually a strategy from companies to us make more big of a deal with these less known idols but this is rarely used. I just realized it's just more of a "filler member" thing. Like in 2nd gen when this type of mistreatment was seen with Hyoyeon, but people didn't care at all since she was just considered a side rapper/dancer right along with her visuals which weren't acceptable in the KBS so it was just like "Oh, she's ugly so her clothes doesn't matter at all". Like with Wendy Red Velvet, Jeongyeon from Twice and many others big girl groups who's company don't care about them visually so treat them as "Fillers" or how I like to call:Feats who have a position. It's crazy that you can't be one of the most important parts (Technically speaking) in your group, but still if you're not incredibly stunning your company will throw you at the back. If you're years in a group, it'll definitely make a big deal for me how your company treats you. It's a competitive place, you can be replaced anytime, but when you already earned your spot and your company still acts like you're some replaceable trainee it's really disrespectful. I would be like "Btch? Part of me makes you gain money, dumbass." And while I'm talking about AESPA, NingNing was also a "Victim" of ugly clothes and being in the back, but she lost enough weight to be seem again by her company and that's my best guess because In their debut/comeback she was also caught with some ridiculous fits too. The fact she's a lead vocalist has not much to do about it. submitted by /u/0110I1I [link] [comments]

Gosh... I love watching this group! These girls really know how to sell a performance. They work the camera effortlessly and just radiate charisma. Lately, I’ve also noticed how much better they’ve gotten with fan interactions. I’ve never been someone who’s into aegyo, but they really know how to make it work without making it feel too forceful. Everything they do just feels so natural and easy. We’re honestly blessed to have a group like this in this era. They have good discography, ethereal vocals, and captivating dancing, they truly have it all. My only regret is not being able to see them live during this tour... please, I’m begging you HYBE and Source Music... add more cities next time. I've been vicariously experiencing the concert through fancams but it just makes me even more upset that I’m not there T.T submitted by /u/Carelessies [link] [comments]

4. LE SSERAFIM is probably one of the groups with the most relaxed career growth, moving at a steady pace without feeling pressured.

LE SSERAFIM is probably the 4th-generation group with the best balance of growth and stability in their career right now. They’ve been doing well with each of their comebacks, but their growth feels more stable—not too overwhelming, and of course, not underwhelming either. Their stats for each comeback have been consistently growing at a good pace. That said, I think that’s a good thing because they don’t have too much pressure for each release to top the previous one. As a result, they have more freedom to explore, which is also why their music is diverse yet still consistent with their fearless identity. submitted by /u/why_dmn [link] [comments]

10. I feel like I’ve became disconnected from Kpop lately

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’ve always had a problem with social media. I was constantly exposed to a lot of toxicity, like fanwars and other bad stuff. At some point, I realized it was making me feel really bad, so I decided to take a break. I started with Twitter: I deleted my main account that I used for 2 years and kept only one account that was more chill, then I did the same with TikTok, and I started using that time to watch shows, draw, and listen to music. This helped since I’m exposed to much less negativity. At the same time, though, I’ve inevitably stopped keeping up with my favs, and that makes me a little sad. I know if I went back to my old routine, I’d get stressed again, I’ve always been very active in fandom spaces, constantly following updates, and now not doing that feels strange honestly. I know rationally it’s not necessary to know everything, but after being used to it for so long, it just feels weird, I feel like I’m kinda disconnected. I don’t know if this is normal or if this feeling will pass. I wouldn’t say my anxiety is gone, since it goes far beyond social media and I still have work to do on it, but for now the situation it’s strange but okay. I’ve been a kpop stan for quite a while. I love kpop, but lately it feels like it’s brought me more negative experiences than positive ones. Maybe the best way to enjoy it would be to stay away from fandom spaces and just be a listener, even if that means missing out on many things about my favs. submitted by /u/ForceApprehensive597 [link] [comments]

11. Kpop Reddit has become more biased

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm not going to pretend like Kpop subreddits have always been some holy place that's unbiased. Before there was definitely SM bias, groups such as EXO, Shinee, Red Velvet, SNSD tended to garner positive comments and be more resistant to criticism while some other SM groups like NCT and aespa were always up for grabs as they were seen as the "noisy" stain in SM's history. Stray Kids, Enhypen, Blackpink, etc have always been unwelcome. And girl groups tended to have hate trains over boy groups. However, in recent times it's become stifling. I'd say around the time that NewJeans' lawsuit dropped. There's been an influx of brigading, people following you around other subs just to downvote you, and while you've always had to have some level of respect towards others, you now have to abide by unspoken rules on who can be constructively criticized and who you can only post glowing reviews about. It feels like getting policed by someone breathing in your ear. And I'm not going to sidestep the elephant in the room. Yes, BTS is incredibly criticized and oftentimes it can be incredibly unfair to them. I've defended them at times myself. Bodyshaming, blaming them for world politics, blaming them for every ice cream a child has dropped, etc. It's clear they're held to another standard than other groups. But people can't have a level-headed discussion on something negative about them without getting 6 Army actually harassing them. Or discuss that their fandom has done inappropriate things like stalking people, harassing idols, brigading and gaslighting people who speak out. So much so that a decent amount of a people feel silenced. They can't talk without their posts getting mass reported because there is no middle ground where yeah, BTS can be well-meaning guys who've helped take Kpop to another level but have had human mistakes and while most of their fans are quite lovely (genuinely, some of the most generous kpop fans I've met were Army), the minority of them are... simply hard to deal with. And I don't think that's a hot take. I ult aespa, they can make boneheaded decisions and I'll be the first to say MYs are amongst the most insufferable haters of kpop. A lot of subreddits have become Hybe group focused including the most popular one, the so-called "uncensored" subreddit. Where negative posts about BTS disappear, groups "competing" with Hybe groups freely get hate, etc. I find it incredibly hilarious that it's been 24 hours since my post that's about defending aespa against a hate train is still under moderator approval for the "uncensored" subreddit. Mind you, I criticize aespa myself in it, it's far from glowing praise for them. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule with the unofficial Hybe subs. Enhypen is free game. And you can criticize HYBE girl groups because quite honestly, a lot of them are treated as token girl groups where their achievements are celebrated but the second you criticize them and it leads to boy groups like TXT or BTS, that's when hell breaks loose. There is a reason why that Kpopthoughts post about being downvoted for talking about groups turned into a "that fandom who shall not be named makes it hard to talk freely" session. Funnily enough, since the change in dynamics, I feel like people have become more resentful from the policing that they in turn become more hateful towards HYBE groups when it's not their fault that their fandoms have taken over Kpop reddits. So the staunch defense for Hybe groups and free-for-all for other groups ends up with Hybe groups getting hated more. TL;DR: The "HYBE takeover" including their fandom's behavior has made free discussion harder. submitted by /u/Breezyrain [link] [comments]

12. LE SSERAFIM just concluded their first US tour, and it showing they have amazing potential in the US market

All 7 stops sold out. And it’s unanimous among concert goers that LE SSERAFIM absolutely smashed it performance wise. Everyone was praising their performance and ability to connect with the crowd. Personally I attended one stop, and then because I was so impressed, I bought another ticket to another stop. Their CRAZY performance in LA went viral in Korea bc they were shocked how loud and how much the US fans knew of the entire song lyrics. Source Music have been very clever with building up LSF’s US presence. It started in Fall 2023 with their Blizzcon attendance and Overwatch collab, but they also had multiple collabs with popular YouTubers, Tiktokers (Ha sisters) ,Streamers (Offline TV). Not to mention, they also had a guest NBA Lakers game appearance and “friends of NBA” collab which spawned the era of the LSF basketball jerseys. Then their infamous Coachella appearance happened in 2024. Obviously it went viral for not so great reasons but they still got their eyes out to the public there. However, this also spawned the infamous flags as well. During Crazy era, their song also blew up thanks to it being used (as fanedit) in Marvel Rivals for Luna Snow’s ult. We also got c*nty Bob Chaewon. Then comes their sold out US tour. US open appearance, America’s Got Talent appearance, Dodgers game appearance, even more collabs galore. They’ve had amazing exposure. Yunjin is a native English speaker, understands GenZ culture and memes / slang, and is so good with her way of words. She was one of the key pieces of LSF’s US stops to being a smash hit. LSF’s music also isn’t bubble pop, which caters a bit more to US fans. I feel like there is so much exciting potential for LSF ahead in the US (and even international markets). Coachella may have seemed like a roadblock but it turned out to be a necessary stepping stone for them. I’m super proud of how far they’ve come and what more they have enabled to come. submitted by /u/KindredValiance [link] [comments]

13. The thinly-veiled hate train attempt for aespa

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

aespa is arguably the top Korean girl group outside of Blackpink right now. And in classic Kpop hater fashion, there's definitely been a buildup of people trying to start a hate train for them: "aespa has a new face every comeback" I'm not going to say they're 100% natural, but they regularly go barefaced or minimal makeup and look pretty damn close to what they did years ago. Makeup and styling does a lot. But either way, Korea doesn't care if they're natural beauties anyways and hypes up their visuals on the regular so this isn't really working as much as people really wish it would. If their visuals were an actual problem, there wouldn't be companies debuting and promoting their visuals as "AI beauties". "Is Karina cancelled after her scandal?" There's two idols who lost a similar amount of Instagram followers as her throughout the same amount of time (April to this month) who haven't had a scandal but I won't name names since their fans would derail this post about aespa to fight each other. (1.4 million followers lost for idol 1, 1.3 million for Karina, and 1.2 million for idol 2 last I checked) In Korea, Karina's career hasn't slowed down; she still goes viral, still booked and busy, still selling out products, etc. And internationally, I have not seen a single big account or fansite close for her. Even the American accounts. "Dirty Work and Rich Man are the worst songs I've heard" Are the songs disappointing compared to their 2024 lineup? Yeah. Are they really awful songs? No, be honest, at worst they're cheesy/mid. We've all heard songs that are actually offensive to the ears to listen to. "aespa is flopping and might lose their crown" Top 10 in Korean charts, Billboard charting, album million sellers, selling out concert seats, etc. And they're so busy they even jokingly try to give their passports away to fans. Quite honestly, their "flopping" is better than most groups' peaks. People can't keep them out of their mouths even if it's to insult them. Korea is tuned in even though aespa only had one week of music show promotions before they flew out to America. "aespa sucks at performance and never sings live (after their GMA performance)" First of all, aespa has been getting hate for years about their dance skills and performance skills. At this point anyone with object permanence has simply acknowledged they were not built to be a performance group. If that was the goal, let's be for real, aespa would've had a stronger dance line and SM wouldn't have bothered having the rappers learn how to sing. But anyways, one of the main things I see is "Why don't they sing live? That'll make up for their dance skills." And then aespa does sing live and sounds like the CD, like at the TMAs, and y'all genuinely don't care. So it was never really about that. And it's extra clear on Korean forums where people try to bring up their "competitors" as great performers and how they've improved their vocals only to get called out by Koreans who know it's just mediaplay to dump on aespa and make other groups look better. I'm not saying people can't criticize aespa and mean it, but let's not play stupid. aespa got a brief pause from hate whenever other girl groups like IVE, Idle, and Newjeans were on top and now people are trying to start up again. Note: This post isn't in direct reaction to the one below it, the so-called "uncensored" subreddit has been holding this post hostage for 23 hours while allowing low effort posts to go through moderator approval. Another note: Please don't whack other groups, that's not the point of this. submitted by /u/Breezyrain [link] [comments]

14. Every time a group changes up their sound and ppl get upset about it, I want to just shout from the rooftops that music is subjective and ppl need to realise not everything HAS to be for them

these may seem like obvious things and yet sometimes it's made unfortunately clear to me that far too many ppl dOnt realise this or are incapable of understanding it lol first, i thought about this semi recently when ateez released lemon drop and i didnt really like it because it's so far from my usual taste and also im of the opinion that ateez shine best in their more intense and/or crazier sounding stuff like guerrilla and wake up but yk i just thought okay sure im a bit personally disappointed but it's chill, there is still a huge selection of their songs that i love and can listen to whenever i want lmao - it's literally that simple😭 now ive heard the new tws song snippet and i was sooo pleasantly surprised! i lOve them as a group but i just cant enjoy their music bc it's way too schoolboy happy clappy sunshine for me haha, so i was really shocked to hear such a new sound and vibe from them. safe to say, i wiLL be tuned into this release and I'll probably enjoy it. but ive seen people complaining that they don't want them to change up their style bc they like the happy clappy sound and not this other new vibe. and im just like🧍‍♀️ yall dO realise not every single release was made for you specifically to like😭 espEcially in kpop where new music comes out so frequently idk i guess i just dont really understand why ppl think that whatever they like/dislike is the only correct opinion, and why ppl expect to thoroughly enjoy each and every release from a group. as someone with ateez and stray kids as my top ults, there are pLenty of songs from both groups that i just dont enjoy, so i dont listen to them - that doesn't make me any less of a fan💀 different strokes for different folks :) submitted by /u/Important-Zombie9331 [link] [comments]

16. I love Kpop but I hate the fans. Everywhere. Most of em.

Just because a random person on the internet that is fan of another group, said something mean towards your favorite group, doesn't mean that you have to go on a hate campaign back and cry about it. As someone who stans multiple groups, some whose fandoms seem to hate each other, it is so tiring and sad. I hate my own fandom spaces. I hate the fans I am with. I just want to engage in fun, loving fan culture. I like people who draw fanart or make cute edits or videos, I wanna see the cute, funny moments compilations. A lot of you guys get super emotional over internet fanwars. Especially in the uncensored subreddit. Not every mean comment from another app has to be brought into discourse here - the response will always be the same... just read someone else "irrational mean comment" crashout. You guys are so immature... why? Are you all children? I doubt it... Back in 2019 it wasn't like this...? You could stan multiple groups and it would be chill, cool, encouraged. Now if I go to the subs for the groups I specifically like, even there are people who shit on other fandoms and groups. There is no good happy fanspaces anymore. Amino is dead. TikTok, Twitter, Instagram and I guess even Reddit are super toxic. Discord is positive but there is nothing going on there... Where can I go for online spaces? Or do I have to collect friends in real life and create a groupchat? I don't wanna guys I understand being emotional, but please direct your energy into something positive instead of negative. How about you hype your favourite up instead of tearing someone down? Or atleast have civil discourse. I know the world is crumbling and it's depressing. That's why we need each other, we need positive spaces to cope and/or dissociate from the horror of life. Please, hear me out... spread love guys TL;DR : Can we act like adults when we are adults? Can we be nice? Where are safe spaces? Your thoughts will become your words. Your words will become your actions. Your actions will become your life. Don't fall for ragebait, don't make others suffer with you... submitted by /u/cat_girl10 [link] [comments]
