I came across a comment saying that more and more people decides to become idols because of the money and not because of the art, that itâs not a passion but a job and the art part in kpop is made by the company who only cares about the money. In different words: for this person, idols arenât like ânormal artistsâ and they are some kind of second class artists or arenât artists at all. Automatically i thought that this would be an unpopular opinion, right? Since itâs a kpop sub, why exactly people engaging with kpop would agree with it? But to my surprise the comment had received a positive reaction. So it got me curious, is this a common opinion among the users of this subreddit? To me and iâm not going to try to convince anyone that idols are artists, it doesnât sound realistic that in an industry where the majority (outside the Big 4) canât even make enough to pay off their trainee debt, money would be such a common motivation to pursue the career. Even if we can all agree on the fact that debuting as an idol could be a shortcut to fame and recognition (when compared to others careers in the entertainment industry) and that sure thereâs must be some people who pursued this path mainly because they want to be famous rather than for the artistic aspect, when faced with the real life reality that most of times they wonât earn money, fame, or recognition, it seems highly unlikely and it reads like itâs just a detrimental stereotype. submitted by /u/Silent_Advantage_794 [link] [comments]

1) Comment only 1 girl per country along with a picture. 2) They DO NOT have to be from a K-Pop group specifically, but they do have to be from a girl group! 3) Bi-racial idols are allowed, however, if they win for one category, they are ineligible for another. 4) Votes will be calculated after 24 hours. Our girl Vivi won the spot of our Hong Kong representative! For the next round, weâre looking for a representative from Vietnam! South Korea: Jihyo (TWICE) The Philippines: Sophia (KATSEYE) Mainland China: Yuqi (i-dle) Thailand: Minnie (i-dle) India: Sriya (Blackswan) Hong Kong: Vivi (Loosemble) Once we complete this chart, weâll do the same with a boy group! submitted by /u/sailormusic [link] [comments]
The spaghetti sauce splash? Is it done on purpose for their upcoming comebacks or is it hacked, idols spotify accounts get hacked soooo often so I wouldn't be shocked if that's the case. It's like that on every cover đđ submitted by /u/42_Yudoz [link] [comments]
I've been going back and forth on what I want to do for 2027 - either a Kpop cover show and making it a mini tour across the UK and Ireland, or, making a Taylor Swift tribute. Taylor is definitely more popular for a wider audience in the UK and especially Ireland, but I also love Kpop so much. đ€·ââïž are there any UK kpop fans who could weigh in? submitted by /u/CrimsonBlade2018 [link] [comments]

I think itâs been occurring since 4th gen. And I believe even Txtâs yeonjun said this. During 4th gen NewJeans, Aespa and IVE were extremely popular and filled charts and everything. While TBZ and TxT were still popular there was never a boy group that consistently charted no 4th gen boy group has gotten a PAK while IVE and Newjeans have mutiple songs from multiple albums having PAKS. Even during 5th gen it seems like ILLIT is the most popular group even with big boy groups like zb1, tws who had a big hit and bnd. I also remember KIOF charting pretty okay. So yeah whatâs the reason for girl groups being more streamed and having more hits? Is it just that girl group produce more hits or the general public prefers girl groups submitted by /u/Lumpy_Sound6734 [link] [comments]

Korea has quite a conservative culture in general, at least from what I observed whilst travelling there. Great respect is placed upon manners, traditions and respecting elders. It is still a Christian society at its core, even if majority atheist nowadays. There are liberal attitudes to some things (legal termination of pregnancy, for example) but attitudes towards other issues, especially any sort of LGBTQ rights are majority frowned upon, despite protest from the younger generations. I can imagine this disregard is only made worse in the scandal-avoidant industry. It is this rather strict culture that makes me wonder if it is difficult to adjust to for foreigners. For example, Thai idols. I know that Thailand is by no means a perfectly progressive liberal country, nor is Korea some ultra-conservative traditional state. However, I do think the markedly different attitudes on LGBTQ+ people must be difficult to adjust to. It can be assumed that Thai idols enter training camps and suddenly get told that this thing they have seen as normal their whole life is actually a massive taboo. To expand, 10% of Thai people openly identify as LGBTQ+ in some form in 2025. With this in mind, it is unlikely that a Thai trainee would not have been friends / acquaintances with at least one person who was part of this group, especially in major cities with large populations of young people. I canât imagine the turmoil of suddenly being told that this (potentially close) personâs identity is something to be wary - if not downright ashamed - of. Thatâs got to mess with your head, especially as a teenager. This doesnât just apply to Thai trainees though. Many Kpop idols, even if ethnically Korean, were raised in countries like Canada and Australia. Iâm not going to say that homophobia doesnât exist in these countries (it most definitely does) but I would argue that the attitudes towards LGBTQ+ people are a lot more relaxed overall. Two women kissing in public would barely cause a blink for most people in these countries, disregarding a small extreme minority. In Korea, it would be completely shocking. Same-sex couples can also get married in these countries and have protection against discrimination, whilst in Korea they have none of these things (except from a few regional restrictions). Another thing that would be a huge adjustment would be the rigidity of manners in Korea, something I struggled with at first when visiting. There was an expectation of politeness and respect (especially to elders) that I simply never felt whilst living in the west. Although I think the respect of it all was actually very pleasant, I can imagine that it would be stressful to learn all these societal norms so quickly, particularly in a high-pressure, formal environment like a trainee camp. Honestly, I commend idols who have moved to Korea from other countries, as they seem to assimilate very well for the most part. Whether this is due to the rigorous training, I donât know, but as someone who struggled even moving from the UK to Canada, I have to hold a glass to them. If so, how was it? Did anyone flag you down? It's so easy to spot an ONCE during non Twice/Kpop concerts cuz they wear Twice merch or have a Candy bong. I'm thinking of just bringing my Candy bong to concerts I go to bc it's the only one I have, and I don't want to buy more for each concert. It's also less awkward when I'm holding a lightstick during a concert! Going to Jade's concert btw. submitted by /u/NelaOfRivia [link] [comments]
