19. i was very naive about a lot of industries- especially kpop.

  • 3 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I was naive about how authoritarian and full of propoganda the very top of the chain in every industry is. yes i do think i am still very unaware of how dark things are but there may be less freedom at the top of the chain than i originally thought. i once used to want to be famous in music industry until i realise how controlling and excluding it is, and how it can be more dangerous and authoritarian than the previous jobs that i had to quit from lifelong illnesses. I was also so naive about kpop. Despite being exposed to stories about Hollywood it never crossed my mind that kpop could be as dark even though i saw the documentaries about tough training and news scandals, the many dark cases and government issues in kpop too. I was very naive overall, not understanding that music is a locus of control; and a means of disseminating certain views within this world as well as maintaining the status quo- of course it would be just as terrifying as the greater music industry as a whole. it just didn't cross my mind how these consumerist industries are full of dark sides as well, and now that i am finally understanding the news it's kinda put me off a lot of different industries in general, i feel like many industries exist to shape and twist the understanding of the world into stuff which keeps people trapped and small. It would make sense for kpop to bleed into politics, for the power of the idol can globally shape viewpoints and perspectives. No wonder when i watch kpop reality tv i feel i have to have a suspension of belief- of course people can't be truly authentic at work!!! lmao it would be silly of me to even expect them to be that way. so nowadays i realise i have to be more respectful when idols may hide a lot on tv or act a certain way- there's a very good reason as to why they do. Not to worry tho i don't think this is only kpop. i think this is just a thing that happens in many industries, especially media based ones. Nowadays i realise all i ever dreamed of was an illusion.... i was SUPER naive about this world and sadly am not sure what to do anymore. lmao i know at least im blessed enough to talk about this stuff right? i guess so. it feels like hardship doesn't discriminate to any kind of background or type of people; although i get that some people are objectively going through unimaginable suffering like nothing else, i still want to be respectful to people going through everyday struggles too, as they also have a right to feel sad about the bs they go through as well. Overall, i was naive to how shitty this world is and how broken life is for so many people, naive to the countless crying souls out there who suffer everyday in silence. yeah sure my life is hard too but there's so many ppl who probably sad i guess. i think i need to maybe enjoy the freedoms of regular human life more instead of praying for a fantasy that doesn't exist. and it's ok i take full responsibility for my own naiveite. submitted by /u/AngleFormal [link] [comments]

20. do the tickets the scalpers has go to waste if no one buys them?

  • 3 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

fandoms say their group sold out their concert tickets in no time but if you look into it, its the scalpers who has most of the tickets and sell them for double or triple the original price. i was trying to secure a ticket for an upcoming concert and i couldnt get a single one, i spent almost five hours each day. it wasnt just me who wasnt able to secure a ticket but the other fans too. and it turns out the scalpers has more than hundreds of tickets and theyre selling it at an expensive price which not every fan can afford, leading those tickets to go to waste. submitted by /u/withinyourheart [link] [comments]

24. It's wild how cutthroat the K-pop industry is

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

This is a well-known fact, but since most fans focus on the big groups, it’s easy to overlook. Since the start of this decade, over 200 girl groups have debuted, but how many actually found decent success? Maybe a tenth of that? It's wild when you really think about it. The K-pop scene right now is basically this: Debut under the Big Four? Congrats, that’s your golden ticket. Debut under a smaller company, like the other 90% of idols? Better get friendly with Tyche, the goddess of fortune, because you’re going to need all the luck you can get. submitted by /u/Striking-Meal-5257 [link] [comments]

25. Things about K-Pop that totally weird me out

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

It’s been about 7 months since I got into kpop, somehow this year i find kpop fascinating, something I never thought I would, and tbh i think i go mainly for visual as most people do. Currently i like NewJeans & Illit visuals, perhaps i'm something of a bunnies myself, but as for their music, I don't really listen to it, kpop as genre is not really my cup of tea, I heard Ditto on repeat, as people said it was NJ best song, but I don't think the song is any good. Anyway, I want to point out aspects of kpop culture that weird me out, I learned that the way kpop industry release their music is rather unusual, for an instance Aespa had more EPs than the actual studio album, 6 EPs and only 1 studio album is absolutely a ridiculous discography. Why feel the need to drop new stuff every year? instead of dropping EP every single year, I'd rather they, or any group, took their time for 2-3 years after their last album, and then release a new album with 14 songs on it, I think that's how you do it the right way. Most kpop physical albums are bizarre tho, all those fancy packages, photobooks, photocards, and posters, only to have 4 songs on it, gimmick over music. Moreover, the way kpop fans feel compelled to always keep up with their idols, is on another level, NJ last gig was in march, and only a few days later the fans on x were like 'I miss them so bad, it’s been forever!'. Also there's a group called G-idle who dropped a new song in May and everyone's screaming 'it's a comeback!', but when I checked, their last song was in July last year, literally just months ago, a comeback? do me a favor, a comeback is when you return after disappearing for, like, years. Blackpink started their tour this year and people be like 'OMG finally! They’re reuniting!' as if they'd been separated for a decade. Reality check: their last tour was in… 2023! Music wise, to me personally, most kpop songs sound similar, you hear some random kpop song and think, is this IVE? Itzy? Twice? Newjeans? Babymonster? it could be anyone, it's wild that for years kpop industry has been making the same songs over and over again, with different titles and groups, I don't think there's a single idol who had a recognisable voice. Also, what’s with K-pop’s obsession with food?song titles like Cookie, Almond Chocolate, Bubble Gum, Jellycious, they sound like something straight out of Weird Al Yankovic. BUT there's one kpop song I actually find good, it's Cupid from FiftyFifty, I think it's a really good song, levels above most K songs, ofc APT was a banger too but somehow I don’t really count it as full kpop. I'm not a fan of today's music in general either, we are so unfortunate to be living in an era where music fell hard. Another thing I'm not into is the dancing part, I personally find kpop choreography kinda cringy and I don't really feel entertained seeing people dancing. On another note, I believe idols should have more creative input, writing songs and pitching group concepts should be part of the auditions. Speaking of creativity, I feel like kpop industry had ditched it, when an agency creates a new group the concept isn't built on ideas or creativity, it's completely based on research, they analyzed what had already worked before and what had hooked people the most, and then apply those formulas to their new group. And to put the cherry on top, what I find strange in the kpop world is the label stan. I mean, how come people stan the labels more than the artists themselves, I guess outside kpop you’ll never find anyone being an EMI stan or a Warner stan, and then proceeding to drop a whole essay just to defend them. Most of the songs on my playlist, I’m not even aware of which labels the artists are under. Kpop is really a different breed of cat. submitted by /u/Gullible-Distance594 [link] [comments]
