I’ve been a kpop stan for a long time now, I’m currently really into BigBang and the members’ solo music and content. Through GD’s show Good Day, it was pretty much my first actual exposure to the group Seventeen via BSS. They were so funny and charismatic and I somehow ended up coming across a lot of SVT content on my social medias to the point that I already know and can identify half of the members by name. Now I’m not opposed to listening to their music, honestly I’ll likely end up listening to their discography eventually, but right now I just really enjoy watching their group content. This same situation has happened to me before with Jackson Wang, I absolutely love him as an individual but I’ve never really listened to his or GOT7’s music aside from songs I happened to listened to on the radio. Okay I know this is probably really random but I watched bang chans live from the other night and im happy that he was setting boundaries with all of the crazy “fans” that there have been recently but after hearing him it literally made me so upset that I don’t even want to be a part of that fandom anymore. I literally don’t want to be associated with STAY because it’s lowkey embarrassing at this point. Idk if I need to step back and take a break from K-pop or what cause I love stray kids so much but the fandom is honestly really ruining it for me. I still can't believe it. They were one of my favourite groups and I also saw them live. I can't help but think RBW did them dirty not capitalizing on momentum gained from Zombie and Sweet Juice. Insanely talented group with a fantastic discography, they will be missed dearly 😭 It sucks personally for me as that's now two groups I've stanned that have been hit with the disband hammer recently, the first of which was Loossemble. I've been thinking about Kpop from a more business/industry perspective lately and Jennie from blackpink seems to be a great case study especially now that she’s launched her own label, Odd Atelier. It's pretty cool to see a Korea based artist expand into global activities at this scale while maintaining full creative control. So I'm curious how the management structure behind someone like Jennie actually works. Here’s what I’ve been thinking: 1. Domestic Team Structure Around Jennie (Tentative Picture) From what I can tell, even though OA is technically a one artist label, Jennie still seems to rely on the Kpop support network. schedule managers, personal assistants, hair/makeup teams and long time stylists who’ve worked with her since the blackpink days. OA’s based in Seoul so that crew likely handles most Korea side logistics from TV appearances to brand deal coordination and the paperwork that goes with them. The music side feels less set in stone. I haven’t come across any clear signs of a fixed in house production team like the big agencies' A&R departments. But I may be missing a few things so happy to be corrected if I’m wrong. It looks more like she taps a rotating group of producers and topliners, keeping one or two familiar names for continuity while bringing in fresh collaborators each project. That flexible setup would make sense for a soloist at her level but I can’t say for sure without insider confirmation. 2. Dancers, Choreographers, and Touring Crew We know Jennie does her choreo with IG@silvergunnnn but the performance side is bigger than just the choreographer. She seems to travel with a fairly steady pool of backup dancers so there has to be some structure behind them. What I’m not clear on is who actually manages those dancers once a project kicks off. Do they have a separate tour crew coordinator handling dancers, rehearsal spaces, visas, and day to day schedules? If anyone has insight on how soloists usually staff out their live crew especially the dance side, I’d love to hear it. Maybe I’m lumping things together but it feels like choreography, dancers and touring logistics could each be its own lane. Happy to be corrected if I’m off. 3. Her Global Management Then there’s ALTA Music Group, which recently signed on to manage Jennie’s overseas activities. That arrangement really has me curious. How exactly do ALTA and Odd Atelier split the workload? OA looks to be scaling up fast and has already brought in staff with solid international experience but Jennie’s kind of global reach is huge. Partnering with ALTA seems like a smart play, my guess is ALTA handles things like international booking, western media outreach and industry networking while OA focuses on creative direction and core brand decisions. Does alta take the lead on all activities outside korea, or do you think it’s more of a case by case setup? 4. The Future of Odd Atelier as a Company Looking at OA’s website, I get the feeling they might plan to sign other artists someday. if that’s the case, the company will need a more structured, scalable system like artist development, in house production, A&R, PR, touring staff and so many things. Fast forward 10 or 15 years, OA could look very different once their roster and global footprint start to grow. (Disclaimer: this is under the impression that we’re not considering Katseye as K-pop, because to me they’re not but some people still call them that 💀). We’ve seen the success of groups One Direction, Little Mix, Fifth Harmony (questionable? I wasn’t that much into them so I’m not sure). They had their own ways of getting to where got, so that’s just for reference’s sake. We’ve seen not much success from groups like PrettyMuch, Boys World, In Real Life (or if you don’t know them, you probably didn’t see it and won’t because they’re all disbanded now anyway). The K-pop methodology seems to be working for Katseye, among other factors. Is it possible for it to work with groups in the future? Maybe it could’ve worked in the past with certain groups? Maybe even current groups? Now, I’m not an expert on the music industry at all, so this is just based on what I’ve seen. I feel like it COULD work, but of course it’s all about how the labels and companies see fit. Also, some may say it would take away the uniqueness of K-pop, although I think that’s more about stuff like PCs, lightsticks, variety shows, etc. (which personally, I wouldn’t mind 👀). Pretty much all the top active girl groups in K-pop performed this weekend. I've tried to watch as much as I can and so here's a quick review! Let's do this in order of the groups' debut date. For some balance, I will add a small criticism of each show: TWICE at Lollapalooza. I don't know that I can add any more to all the posts people have been making. There's a case to be made that this show was even better than their career-defining show at Nissan Stadium in Japan last year. The full set was 19 songs, and included a couple of nice surprises, like ICON, which they haven't performed live in years. They spoke English throughout, too, which you love to see. Complaints? The official broadcast is not available online anymore!! BLACKPINK in Paris (2 nights). These are for sure the best shows of the tour so far, the crowd was electric and loud, and the girls are in their groove. Rose in particular sounds amazing. She's found an extra gear in her performance skills since the Born Pink tour and is getting awfully good at commanding an audience rather than simply perform to them. She's got a bright future ahead. My main complaint about their show is that it's too short and the interludes are too long. ITZY at the Taipei Dome. Yoooo, this one is a whole other type of nuts. Seven song set on a baseball diamond n a packed stadium and a massive light show and great camera work -- but no fans on the floor. The whole show is here, you kinda have to see it to believe it. The Taiwan crowd was popping for them as always. Complaint? Not a lot of live vocals this time, which is pretty strange for Itzy these days. AESPA at KCON LA. This is a shorter set with 4 songs. Whiplash and Supernova are badass songs in live format, and mixing in Flights Not Feelings was a nice mix-in. The crowd was with them all the way. Sometimes people get on their case for not being a top group in stage performance, but you'd never know it watching this perforance. I thought this was a good side of them. Complaints? The vocal audio mix was way out of whack. SM is never going to figure out that they can just let our girls sing and everything will be fine, are they? IVE at KCON LA. Years of touring has turned IVE into a well-oiled performance machine. Rebel Heart and Attitude went down great with the local crowd. This show produced a meme that will be riffed on for years: Liz lost grip of her mic and it went flying. Complaint? Song selection. I think the new album is great, it's probably my most listened to k-pop album in 2025, but they only performed one of their classics. 😑 LE SSERAFIM in Manila. Everybody is absolutely RAVING about this show on social media and here on Reddit. The members themselves have said that they felt like it was the best show of their tour. Maybe I should be upset about that because I saw them in Tokyo a couple of months ago (and that show was outstanding).... but after seeing the footage of the crowds singing Antifragile, I've gotta agree. Le Sserafim blew the house off the place. How they manage to put on a 2+ hour show full of tough choreography and live vocals is a modern miracle of K-pop. Plus the crowd sang Happy Birthday to Chaewon. Complaint? No live band! They're using new & different mixes of many of their songs but nothing beats real musicians. KATSEYE at Lollapalooza. They've been preparing hard for this concert and it really shows. They added a fabulous minute-long dance break into Gabriella which is one of the best I've seen in any K-pop* performance this decade. Another cool thing they've done is adjusted Debut's choreography to feature Manon more, which was one of those fair complaints that Eyekons have been making for a while now. Even the camera work was good. Complaints? Same as TWICE... can't easily watch it again. Also performing at KCON this weekend: i-dle, NMIXX, Kep1er, izna, Meovv, Hwasa, and more. On top of that, Fifty Fifty, Hearts2Hearts, Close Your Eyes, and Baby VOX (!!!) all played a festival in Yeosu, SK. All of this in the space of a couple of days. Last night, TREASURE released a teaser poster for their upcoming album which made me think what could've happened with them if Mashiho and Yedam didn't leave the group. Back when the two of them were still in Treasure, YG heavily promoted them as twelve diamonds: all of their albums had 12 diamonds on it, their logo, the mics, and even their in-ears. On the sleeve of their first full album, Treasure Effect, there are twelve diamonds that appears to be how they planned Treasure's releases. The first three diamonds huddled together— TREASURE's first three single albums were released within their first four months— and one of the inclusions of that same album was a file holder that had symbols. The first five symbols were: a diamond, a heart, a lightning, a circle, and a flower-like shape. Which were all in their albums. After they left the group, the entire "The First/Second Step" was scrapped and they released REBOOT instead. An earlier example from the same agency would be with WINNER. Their album after a hiatus was EXIT: E, the album was supposed to be the first album among the four (spelling EXIT) but one of the main producers of the album was the member, Nam Taehyun who was heavily involved in the entire album. He later left the group and the entire series was dropped. The album was heavily based on Taehyun's own music taste, and since he left, it appears that WINNER has never performed Baby Baby and Sentimental ever again (cmiiw).
