Hello everyone! We are excited to take a trip back in time to revisit some K-Pop classics once again, continuing with this rate, the "Early Gen 3" Girl Groups Rate! (If you haven't already, make sure to join r/kpoprates to ensure that you stay updated on future rate-related posts!) Quick Links: Ballot submission: Link to Reddit Chat to message a ballot // Ballot template (Google Docs ver.) // Ballot template (Pastebin) Playlists: Spotify // Youtube (Audio ver.) // Youtube (Lyrics ver.) // Youtube (MV ver.) Deadline: July 7th (Monday), 11:59 Pacific (Link to a timezone converter) How the songs were selected: We used the /r/kpop Top Ten Tuesdays results to grab the most adored songs from each of the artists on Reddit, and we also had a songlist feedback survey on /r/kpoprates to help decide the songlist! Now, without further ado, let's introduce the 55 songs (& 7 bonus songs) that were selected for this rate, ordered chronologically for each artist (artists were also ordered by debut date): . Spica: Russian Roulette You Don’t Love Me EXID: Every Night Up & Down Ah Yeah Hot Pink Night Rather Than Day DDD I Love You HelloVenus: Wiggle Wiggle I’m ill Mysterious Crayon Pop: Bar Bar Bar AOA: Miniskirt Short Hair Like a Cat Heart Attack Good Luck 10 Seconds Excuse Me FIESTAR: One More You’re Pitiful Ladies’ Code: Pretty Pretty Galaxy The Rain BESTie: Love Options Excuse me Mamamoo: Piano Man You’re the Best Décalcomanie Starry Night Egotistic Wind Flower Gogobebe HIP Laboum: Journey to Atlantis Hwi Hwi Lovelyz: Ah-Choo Destiny WoW! Now, We That Day Sonamoo: Friday Night GFriend: Me Gustas Tu Rough Navillera Fingertip Time For The Moon Night Apple Mago Brave Girls: Deepened Rollin’ We Ride Chi Mat Ba Ram After We Ride . Bonus Rate: The bonus rate is basically an extension of the main rate! There were several songs that received high praise during the songlist feedback survey that still were barely not able to make the main rate, so we have put them into the bonus rate here to give them a chance to be rated. . EXID - Lady HelloVenus - Venus Crayon Pop - FM Fiestar - Mirror Ladies’ Code - Bad Girl Laboum - Between Us GFriend - Labyrinth . The Bonus Rate is optional and you do not have to submit a score for every song in the bonus list if you do it: you can score none of them, all of them, or any number in between. You cannot give a 0 or 11 to any song in the bonus, as they are not part of the main rate. While it is optional, we hope you consider participating. Spotify playlist YouTube playlist (MV version) YouTube playlist (Audio version) YouTube playlist (Lyrics version) Rules: You must listen to and assign a score to EVERY song listed. If your ballot is missing any scores it will not be eligible and you'll be sent a message asking you to fill in the missing scores. Each song should be assigned a score between 1 to 10. Decimals up to one point are allowed but any further is a no-no – 6.9 is fine, but 6.99 is not. You can use ONE 0 and ONE 11 for the entirety of the rate, for your least favorite and most favorite song respectively - they are optional but HIGHLY encouraged if you feel some type of way about any given song! Comments are also encouraged but not required for such scores (except if you give a song a 0). Comments are encouraged and much appreciated (but not required, except for if you give a 0) and can be added to any song by simply typing after the numerical score, like so: Hip: 2.4 Ofc the title track that utilizes Mamamoo's vocal power the least ends up becoming the most popular (yells angrily at cloud) This is the ONLY correct way to format a comment. Please do not include colons (ex. 9: I stan!), dashes (ex. 3.3 - This song sucks), or any other symbol after your score/before your comment as it breaks the program. You can also give comments for individual artists! Just write your comment after the :, such as the following: EXID: Are they pronounced like "exit" or are you supposed to say every letter separately? I'll never know For this rate and most future rates, we have a ballot average minimum of 4.00. In addition, if your ballot average is between 4.00-5.50, you must leave comments on your lower scores (which we define as any score that's a 3 or lower). {Do not worry about having to calculate your ballot average, once you submit your ballot, we will tell you if you need to make changes to your ballot for it to be accepted.} SUBMITTING A BALLOT: * Link to Reddit Chat to message a ballot As Reddit is (unfortunately) moving away from the private messaging system in favor of utilizing the Reddit chat system, we are forced to also adopt the Reddit chat system for messaging. You can make a copy of either the Google Docs or Pastebin ballot templates below, add your scores on your local copy/file, and send the link to your local copy/file in your Reddit Chat message to u/KpopRates_Ghost. * Google Docs ballot template * Pastebin ballot template Google spreadsheet template that you can use to calculate averages, record scores, and make predictions Alternatively, if you have Discord, you can message the link to your ballot to both the rate hosts, @Zypker124 and @aidshha. Articles / Timeline 250422 This day marks one year since HYBE launched their audit of Min Hee Jin and ADOR's management. Happy(?) 1st anniversary of the Megathreads! 250502 The 3rd hearing for Min Hee Jin vs. Belift Lab was set to take place but postponed to July 18th at Belift Lab's request. Each side is due to present their arguments/documents regarding plagiarism issues at the next meeting. (Source: Maeil Kyungjae) 250530 We learned that ADOR had filed for 'indirect enforcement' after their injunction was granted and NewJeans performed at ComplexCon back in March (Filed on April 4th according to the statement from NewJeans' representatives linked below). On the 30th, the 52nd Division of the Seoul Central District court further granted this request. The 'indirect enforcement' ruling means that each individual member of NewJeans will be fined 1 billion won (approx. $725,000) if they continue with entertainment activities independent of ADOR, which would be in violation of the injunction. This enforcement with potential fines does NOT apply to any of NewJeans' independent activities between the granting of the injunction and the granting of this 'indirect enforcement'. These fines will only apply to future activities going forward, or at least until rulings with NewJeans' appeal or the main contract validity case changes anything (next hearing on June 5th). (Source: Chosun Biz, MK Sports) The Korea Herald: Court orders NewJeans to pay Ador 1 billion won for each unauthorized activity Discussion Post Korea JoongAng Daily: Court orders NewJeans members to pay ADOR $725,600 for every independent entertainment activity A statement by NewJeans' representatives was made later in the day primarily acknowledging the indirect enforcement ruling, but reiterating that it is temporary and will no longer have an effect if NewJeans win their appeal of the injunction. (Source: Ilgan Sports) The 2nd hearing for Source Music's damages lawsuit against Min Hee Jin took place at the 12th Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Western District Court. (Quick recap: 1st was January 10th, 2nd was previously scheduled for March 14th, postponed per Source Music's request). Legal representatives were present. Source Music had a 20-minute presentation prepared, but Min Hee Jin's representatives objected to the inclusion of KakaoTalk messages in the presentation. They claimed the messages were illegally obtained and requested the hearing to be closed/private. Source Music denied the messages were obtained illegally, claiming they were gained from company devices with consent. The court went with a temporary compromise to keep the hearing public, but not allow discussion/display of the messages until they were reviewed again. A special hearing to review the messages will take place June 27th. (Source: Sports Today) 250605 The Seoul Central District Court Division 41 held the second hearing for ADOR seeking confirmation of validity for their exclusive contract with NewJeans. Only legal representatives were in attendance. NewJeans' side primarily argued that ADOR had not met their obligations and that their evidence they were preparing to support NewJeans' activities, like finding a new producer, was inadequate. ADOR's side argued that NewJeans' reasons for allegedly terminating their contract continually changed, indicating they are arbitrary and being made up with retroactive hindsight. The issue of some evidence being collected illegally also came up again from NewJeans' side. Judge Jung Hoe-Il specifically inquired if both/either sides were willing to come to an agreement, encouraging them to do so. NewJeans' representatives strongly indicated this was unlikely as the trust in ADOR had completely collapsed. ADOR's representatives indicated they could see negotiating an agreement once the court comes to a final decision. The 3rd hearing was set for July 24th. (Sources: X Sport News, Maeil Kyungjae) 250612 The next hearing regarding the Shareholder Agreement termination and exercising put/call options lawsuits between HYBE and Min Hee Jin was held at the Seoul Central District Court's 31st Division. Arguments from each side mostly re-tread what we've already covered. HYBE's side argued they were justified in ending the shareholder agreement due to the threat Min Hee Jin posed to the company. Min Hee Hin's side argued the timing of the audit/termination did not align purely with that concern and that some KakaoTalk messages and emails were obtained illegally and not admissable as evidence. HYBE also indicated they had a witness to give testimony at the next meeting, which the court accepted. The next hearing with closing arguments, was set for September 11th for both lawsuits. (Sources: Maeil Kyungjae, TV Daily, Sports Today) 250617 Following up from April 16th when NewJeans appealed the court's decision to uphold the injunction and halt on their independent activities, the Seoul High Court reaffirmed the earlier decision. The court rejected NewJeans' appeal. They determined there was no significant change in the material/arguments presented for the appeal and the original decision to grant ADOR's injunction was justified. There was further clarification that the management conflict between HYBE and Min Hee Jin, and her no longer being NewJeans' producer, did not constitute a valid argument for the alleged collapse of trust between ADOR and NewJeans. The group's withdrawal from ADOR is considered arbitrary, that their artistic freedom or activity is not impeded since they are able to do so within their exclusive contract, and that any damages resulting from attempting independent activities are self-inflicted. I am making this post because I have never really talked with anyone about K-pop even though I have been a K-pop “fan” for almost a decade now. This post is a way to discuss my journey discovering and listening to K-pop with anyone who feels like having a discussion. I don’t want to make too long of a post so, this will be a summary of the main things I remember. A little bit about me I am a mid-twenties male from the Swedish countryside with parents from a mixed background my mom being Chilean and my dad being Swedish. I am not really a music lover I just listen to what I like, my main interests mainly being video games, anime and watching YouTube videos. 2012: This was the first time I ever listened to K-pop, and it was “Gangnam style” by psy even though in my opinion saying you have listened to Gangnam style therefor you have listened to K-pop is the same as saying you have watched the Pokémon anime therefor you have watched anime. What I mean by that it’s not really the same thing because it was such a huge phenomenon that it basically separates itself from the genre. I remember people playing this song in the hallways of my school in 2012. Gangnam style didn’t really make me a fan of K-pop, but I did listen to more of psy through the years. 2013/2014: I am putting these two years together because nothing really happened here, I listened to “gentleman by psy” but I didn’t dig any deeper to look for more Korean songs from what I remember. 2015: This was the year I would say I became a “fan” of K-pop I remember I had watched some videos from the channel REACT (formerly known as TheFineBros) about K-pop. Memory is a bit blurry here, but I had watched the first two “youtubers react to K-pop” and from what I remember I just thought K-pop was a bit weird, I didn’t think too much of it until I watched the third “youtubers react to K-pop” video and one of the music videos shown really stuck out to me. The music video on question being “Dope” by BTS. To me, Dope is very addictive to listen to, I don’t know how to exactly explain it, it's just very addictive and the choreography is great. I remember I watched the music video for 1 hour straight after I had watched the “youtubers react to K-pop 3" video. I just got such a huge dopamine rush from the opening dance moves when they sing “I got a feel”, “I got a feel” which builds up the moment and the Jimin says “im kinda dope” when they start dancing it just felt so great to watch. I remember thinking that Jungkook and V looked amazing, especially Jungkook. I remember Dope having 20 million views at the time and I want to say I don’t think of myself as more highly or anything of the sort because I liked something from BTS before they blew up, I'm just mentioning details I remember. Also, I forgot to mention it, but I watched the third “youtubers react to K-pop” video when it came out, so this was September 2015. Dope really made me itch for more of this type of music video, this is why I say that I became a K-pop “fan” here because I genuinely looked for more videos like Dope, Music videos that would scratch that itch. I don’t want to seem like I’m hating on any of the groups I'm about to mention but they simply didn’t give me the same feeling dope gave me. I watched music videos by bigbang, exo, 2ne1, got7, f(x) and none of them really gave me that dopamine rush. I even watched some older music videos from BTS, I only remember watching boy in luv, but I think there must’ve been more music videos from them I watched and that didn’t even give me the same feeling I got from watching dope. After searching for around a week, I couldn’t find anything that gave me the same dopamine rush that dope gave me. So, I sort of forgot about K-pop for around a year. 2016: Well, I didn’t completely forget about K-pop, I watched Conan O’brien travel to Korea and in one of the videos I watched he made a collaboration with JYP the song is called fire, the members of twice are in it. I also listened to a Radiolab episode about K-pop called “K-poparazzi”. My memory is a bit vague here but either I got back into K-pop in late 2016 or early 2017 after I found the latest releases of BTS at the time, the releases being save me, blood sweat and tears and fire. I know that I got back into BTS before spring day and after blood sweat and tears but not entirely sure when. Anyways, when I found the latest releases of BTS I got the same feeling again from watching dope and out of the three music videos mentioned I really loved all but especially blood sweat and tears. To this day blood sweat and tears is one of my favorite music videos in K-pop, the song is great, the choreography is amazing and the visuals to me are breathtaking. Jimin really stuck out to me, that opening when Jimin sings “my blood, sweat, tears and my last dance” with his arm slowly going up and the seductive look just looks so amazing. The way the choreography matches the song, what I mean by that is the way it does, not just that it does, just feels so great to watch. I know it also has very cool messages about Nietzsche and more but to be honest I know I’m a bit alone on this but typically I care more about how a certain piece of media makes me feel rather than the message. Sure, a piece of media with very good messaging can influence how I feel about it but mostly I only care about the surface level stuff. 2017: I was there for the release of spring day; I remember watching the premier and because it wasn’t a Music video with a lot intense dancing and a sound that gave that dopamine rush dope gave me, I remember thinking “Beautiful song and music video, but not for me”. I have since changed my mind and I would say it’s one of my favorite BTS songs. Something I think is a bit strange is, I was there for the release of Not Today, but I remember not really liking it as much as I do now. I thought it was just ok, and it didn’t give that dopamine rush dope gave me. So, at the time I didn’t think too much of the song but after a while of listening to it, it grew on me and now it’s one of my favorite songs of theirs. I remember some pretty big news that was talked about among ARMY’s after BTS were the fastest music act to outsell an arena in Chile during their wings tour. I remember seeing a comment saying “they have been absolutely everywhere” after CNN Chile and several other news stations covered them on Chilean TV. If I recall correctly, I started watching clip compilations of the BTS members around early 2017 as well, which mainly consisted of clips from the "BTS American hustle life" reality TV-show. I remember hearing about the BTS billboard win for top social artist mid-way through 2017, I didn’t know much about the music industry at the time, so I didn’t quite know what this entailed. I just remember ARMYs being happy with this win. I used to watch a YouTube channel called “Today on the Korean server” which is a channel that covers highlights or livestreams from league of legends players, that play on the Korean server. In some of the videos certain Korean songs will play in the background of the highlights and I found two songs (which are more k-rock, but whatever) I really liked from two groups those songs being “fly high” by dreamcatcher and “How can I say” from Day6. I listened to both of those songs a lot when I found them but especially “How can I say” which made me interested in more of Day6 music. I listened to several songs of theirs up until sometime in 2018 when I stopped listening to them for some reason I don’t remember. Not much else to say about this year other than, I was there for the release of DNA and mic drop music videos, which I really liked. 2018: This was the year I became a fan of Blackpink, I think I watched boombayah and thought, this was ok but not much else, but after watching a few more music videos they grew on me. I don’t recall exactly why I became a fan, I just remember this was the year I became one. I forgot what year I saw the videos, but I remember seeing the Jisoo being ignored compilations, fans complaining about Jisoo not getting enough lines in songs and Jennie getting a lot of hate online. I really like the song “playing with fire”. I watched worlds, which is the biggest event in league of legends e-sports and in the finals, they have an opening ceremony, in that ceremony they created a group for the event called “kda” which features the members Miyeon and Soyeon from g-idle, which made me a fan of them. The song “popstars” by kda is a bop. I was there for the release of “IDOL” by BTS which is up there with “blood sweat and tears” as one of my favorite music videos in K-pop. I remember watching “fake love”, but it took some time before that song grew on me. I believe this was also the year I started listening to K-pop outside of watching the music videos. Basically, up until this year I had mainly watched K-pop for the Music videos, I didn’t listen to the music on its own. I really don’t remember anything else from this year. 2019: I found a YouTube series called explained by a Korean by the YouTube channel DKDKTV, where they explain K-pop songs. I remember them explaining some BTS songs and I had a newfound respect for BTS considering how many details there are in their music videos and the messaging being very interesting. Other than keeping up with the latest comebacks from the groups I am a fan of I don’t remember anything noteworthy from this year. 2020/2021/2022: The only things I remember from these three years is getting burnt out on K-pop, I kept up with some of the releases from BTS and watched some music programs they were on. The only other things I remember is I got addicted to the song “feel so good” by fromis_9, the song HIP by MAMAMOO and I became a fan of ITZY, MAMAMOO and fromis_9. I really don’t remember anything else from these years 2023: This year I stopped being burnt out and I became a fan of a lot of groups mainly le sserafim, seventeen, straykids, twice and newjeans. I could go into why I became a fan of each group individually, but I think the summary has become too long. 2024: I got addicted to “magnetic” by ILLIT, other than that nothing special really happened I just kept watching the groups I became a fan of. That brings us to this year and this post became WAY longer than what I intended, but I hope this gives an overview on what type of fan I am. I am of course willing to answer questions. *Note: I posted this post 6 months ago but for some reason it didn't show up in new in this subreddit and I got permission from a mod to re-post this post after contacting them through mod mail. submitted by /u/ziqezi [link] [comments]

I couldn't care less about all of the drama with Hybe. I'm just sad I didn't get a release this year. I didn't enjoy the NJZ track, probably because it wasn't the same production team. submitted by /u/FlutterPanic [link] [comments]

I was really happy to see Bigbang and Taemin on the Coachella line-up today, and I have to say it's giving me some hope that the k-pop landscape might be starting to allow for some longevity. I know they are both exceptions and not the rule, but it's honestly great to see these 2nd gen acts gain more and more fans as the years pass. I mean, I know Taemin is only 32, but both him and Bigbang have been in the industry for SO long and their fandoms are only growing in size - not only that, but they are getting opportunities that reflect that too. All Bigbang members are closer to their 40s than 30s and G-Dragon is well on his way to complete one of the, if not the, most attended tours by a kpop solo act ever. In an industry that keeps debuting minors, that has such a focus on youth, on chasing trends, on always finding the newer, better thing; I really hope their success can perhaps open some doors for other groups/idols to get more opportunities as they age as well. I don't consider Coachella the pinnacle of all achievements but it's undeniable that no kpop artist who is declining in popularity would be offered a slot. I know this is a bit delusional, but I hope kpop companies are watching and maybe choosing to invest a bit more in their older acts. Fingers crossed we can start seeing things shift slowly and less groups being thrown in the basement once the members hit 30. (and yes, still wondering about what could have been with Bangchella 2020, but I am really glad they are getting this opportunity again) submitted by /u/tinuvhiel [link] [comments]
... so I compiled info tables about the whole Produce-Planet series (including Japan too). Joke asides, I mainly did it out of curiosity while re-watching Produce 101 Japan The Girls and realizing how few votes the girls got compared to Korean season. So then I decided to compare every Produce season to see how many more votes each season got, hence how much more popular each season got. Then I added the Japanese seasons and the Planet series out of curiosity even it's quite difficult to compare them (Japan seasons have a different target and Planet seasons have a complete different voting system), but I found it interesting to add them. Might update it once B2P is finished with the whole data. Enjoy ♥ PRODUCE 101 SEAOSON 1 (2016) Date Ep. I am listening to all the singles, EPs and albums by k pop and K-pop-adjacent girl groups on a tier list. Including: Original Japanese singles/albums Subunits and solos under the group profile OSTs* Not including: Solos and subunits outside of group albums Any covers, remastered versions or remixes First slide(s) will be a ranking of the group, and the second slide(s) will be a ranking in the context of other girl groups. These are just my personal opinions; music is subjective! What I like and how I rank these songs may not line up with your own tastes. I won’t take into account scandals, popularity, or other outside factors. Just the music itself. For U, I listened to the following groups: UNIS, UNI.T I found this ranking a little tough to post since it’s the first time all groups ended up in Not for me. Neither UNI.T nor UNIS connected with me musically, and I didn’t find much that I’d return to. Still, I gave them a fair listen: UNI.T has a quintessential 2018 kpop sound to them, overall I couldn’t get into their discography. They looked to be a project girl group and their discography was very short compared to others like iz*one or i.o.i Top 3: TING Star You&I UNIS were a bit better but their songs are just overall not my taste. Regardless of the ranking, I watched a lyric video afterwards and Hyeonju has an amazing vocal tone. Is she a main vocalist, cause damn her voice is amazing! Top 3: Good Feeling Shaking My Head SUPERWOMAN No stand out bottom 3 for either Even though both were misses, I’m glad I gave them a try, and I'm very excited to move on to the T groups, I think there’ll be some that I like a lot more. *I listened to the VIVIZ album I forgot to rank and enjoyed it; Sticker was my favorite. But not enough to change their ranking. submitted by /u/Armys_blink_once [link] [comments]
I’ve tried a bunch of kpop “heardle” clones lately and most were a mess, pop-ups, broken mobile, weird timers. But I really like this one. It was on the fourth page of google and seems fairly new since it was on like challenge #31. It's heardle dot live. (I can't type the actual website because of how the sub is set up) submitted by /u/RetlocPeck [link] [comments]
"Old K-Pop was so much better" when you only listen to the title tracks of the big groups. This is my favourite one. Nobody ever says that to start a productive dialogue or with good intent, they just want to farm upvotes by complaining and tell people they are a real fan. What are some other examples? submitted by /u/SnooOranges829 [link] [comments]

I need some advice. I recently got into kpop, and i genuinely love it.(I’m 14F btw) i’m not sure if this is the right community, and i’ll take it down in a bit after i receive advice, but, essentially, i want advice on how to give up on my dream of becoming an idol. recently, i’ve starting to want to become an idol REALLY BAD, it looks so fun, and being with a group of all your friends and people your close with, and the amount of love and popularity you get from fans really appeals to me. For me, I think this is mostly about the fame, as i’ve always wanted to be famous, but getting into kpop and discovering idols and all REALLY heightened that. But, i also want to ask if my want for fame could be linked to more innate problems within myself(or if ive just been overthinking it lmao), if it could be an indication of some dissatisfaction, or need for validation and approval and love?? But,to be honest, my life is nowhere near bad enough( i live in a first world country with a multitude of friends who i genuinely love)for me to have dissatisfaction from it, but i could never be content with my life. I’ve also been a maladaptive daydreamer since around 8 years old(and recently i’ve been obviously maladaptively daydreaming about being an idol), so maybe that could have something to do with it, and also slightly abusive parents, but only slightly. Using those facts and info, maybe someone could tell me if i have issues within myself linking to it, or if my want to be an idol is just natural. i want to be content with my life, but i just CANT. everytime i think of being an idol i get come over with an insurmountable amount of sadness, pain and loss of a dream, becuase ive tried soo soo hard to convince myself to not want to become an idol, because its just impossible, yet my heart still hurts soo much and i feel so sad, and i get so sad whenever i watch content, which is bad cuz i really want to enjoy and love the groups. i want advice on how to be content with my own, private life, and how to fully let go of this dream, and if my want for fame could say something about me im relatively very new to reddit and don’t know how communities work but i really need some ideas. thank uou all submitted by /u/sierra732 [link] [comments]
my picks: eleven - ive imma be - xlov energetic - wanna one bad girl good girl - miss a these are just the ones that come to mind but obviously there are hundreds more. i like songs that really show a group’s flavor and concept from the first song. one that has a catchy chorus, and memorable melody. submitted by /u/Seonghye_Kim42 [link] [comments]
