15. Nostalgia laced opinions about 2nd gen

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’m dreading every single lee hyori 10 minutes reel that makes it to my feed because the comments are so predictable every single time. This is something that a lot of people aren’t realising and I need to put it out there. Even though people mention other things too lets talk about lee hyori’s skin tone during that time. A lot of comments talk about how refreshing it is to see an idol have tanned skin and not be whitewashed. Do you guys not see the concept? Her stage props, outfits and makeup and very inspired by america and this is what idols call a “hip”(lmao) or “sexy” concept. That concept is why she is allowed to be tanned. That concept is why it was okay and people praised her. Take a look at kiss of life. Their entire concept is also “western” “sexy” and “hip”. I’m using these words very lightly. But because of that concept, the members are allowed to be curvy or tanned. Its not revolutionary now it wasn’t revolutionary then. If anything its very regressive and stereotypical to associate tanned or darker skin with sensuality or sexiness. If these idols had to do an “elegant” concept, they wouldn’t be tanned even in 2nd gen. Colorist attitude in east and south east asia has existed since decades before kpop even started. It existed in 1995 and it exists in 2025. Not to mention, nothing is natural about how they looked. Female idols back then were also super skinny and had flawless hair and makeup. An average korean person did not look like snsd yoona. So back then, they did look otherworldly and like celebrities the same way wonyoung looks otherworldly to us. Skincare and the beauty industry have advanced and developed a lot since 2nd gen so of course idols use all sorts of treatments and products to enable the same standards that existed since before they were born. It just wasn’t as accessible back then. And what’s the obsession with looking natural anyway? Kpop makeup is art in itself. Its constantly evolving and has employed so many people and provides livelihood to them. Its a creative outlet that has to match various concepts and needs special attention to customise the technique according to the idol’s face. The same can be said about outfits. End of the year award show outfits for girl groups are STUNNING these days. The amount of work, quality and thought that’s put into them despite the schedules of the stylists is remarkable. Even if they’re outsourced, its providing livelihood to so many freelance designers. Kpop is not relatable or simple or natural. Its about putting up a show. If idols remained the same since 2006, their western counterparts would be on a completely different scale when it comes to shows now. Imagine idols still wearing tank tops and using a hand held mic in 2025 while america has superbowl. Performance scales have raised globally due to better production and technology. So why is this used as a way to belittle idols now? submitted by /u/eiuza [link] [comments]

16. Your opinion on the new Babymonster EP ?

  • reddit.com language

I love it personnaly, and I'm happy the title track has lyrics if I can say and not the same way of drip and sheesh like. And I think the high notes are where they have to be. Everyone shine but I love Rora has more vocals and Ahyeon's high notes don't seem too much imo. Plus I really love their concept and the MV. If you don't like it if you can please explain why and be respectful please. EVERYONE HAS THEIR OPINION THANKS submitted by /u/Fragrant-Loquat1777 [link] [comments]

17. How popular and known is Jump by Blackpink?

I feel like Jump isn't as known as their previous comebacks? I mean - I love all their songs, their music is amazing. But this year, the song felt like it wasn't popular at all or maybe that's just me. I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts though. submitted by /u/Sea-Republic8892 [link] [comments]

18. K-pop Fashion & Black (American) Culture

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I typically don't speak openly about the obvious influence (and/or replete) of Black culture within the K-pop industry, because many discussions have and continue to be held, but one thing thats recently has been grinding my gears in the engagement from fans and fashion. Recently, I came across some videos from Xikers and one of them (new to the group so I don't know the members name) was wearing jeans (double layer) and I seen various comments...many laughing and questioning the outfit. I'm aware many individuals today are terrible when it comes to analyzing (or just discernment) the things in front of them, but the comments really pissed me off, because with the music and dance style, you could 100% put together why he's wearing the fit and the influence. Fashion is a social identifiers and a piece of clothing can tell you a lot and it just seriously getting to a point where I can't take all these anti-black comments from fans every...single...day...like it's so exhausting being a Black...K-pop fan submitted by /u/Interesting_Ad8274 [link] [comments]

In your favorite group, do you ever notice a pattern with who ends up being the most popular? Like, are they usually the visuals, the funny ones, or just the ones that get the most screen time? I feel like there’s always a certain “type” that blows up. submitted by /u/Sea-Republic8892 [link] [comments]

32. Jay Park leaving 2PM was honestly the best thing that ever happened to him

  • 9 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Hoping I don't get downvoted for this post but I’ve been revisiting a lot of 2PM’s old stuff lately and it made me think about how crazy it is that Jay Park’s departure in 2009 (which at the time felt like a career-ending moment) ended up being the best possible thing for him. A lot of fans would probably agree. Back then, it was heartbreaking to see him go. He was literally the face of the group and fans were devastated. But looking back now, you can really see how it set him free. He went from being an idol under a super controlled system to building his own empire, eventually becoming one of the most influential figures in Korean hip-hop and R&B. Not only did he prove everyone wrong, he built an entire lane for artists who didn’t fit the traditional idol mold. And he did it while staying authentic to who he is (the Seattle kid who loves music, hustle, and tattoos). Had he stayed in 2PM, we might have never seen him bring K hip-hop into the global spotlight the way he did. Sometimes the worst moment of your career really does end up being the thing that changes your life for the better. Jay Park is the perfect example of that. submitted by /u/savingrace0262 [link] [comments]

Read and Analyze it carefully, I am just asking which Agency is GREAT or BEST at Promoting their GROUP I'm not talking about the Agency who are the best in Creating Groups or Best in Making Songs or the Best in Making Dance and Choreography for the Group or the Best Group in the whole Entire Kpop Industry since some will definitely answer without knowing or understanding the question which can lead into a All Out War Zone by different Fans from their Fave Group I'm only asking which Agency is the BEST in PROMOTING their Group submitted by /u/Slight_Brain6291 [link] [comments]
