I’ve seen some articles they’re debuting on August 18th, and honestly, I’m excited So far, the rookie boy group scene this year feels kind of... underwhelming? Felt less competitive or exciting. Many of them have good album sales, but their performance on domestic and global charts has been pretty disappointing. Domestically, none of them even made it into Melon Top 100. Some people say it’s generally harder for boy groups to appeal to the general public early on I’m wondering if that’s a fair statements. On the girl group side, it's little bit better. Groups like Izna, KiiiKiii, and Hearts2Hearts have shown solid momentum. There was even some early media play around a “H2H vs KiiiKiii” rivalry, which made things a bit more interesting, although it faded pretty quickly. ADP also made a strong entrance, adding more fun to this year's rookie group scene. Meanwhile, the boy group side feels really quiet, aside from buzz within their own fandoms, but that doesn’t really count as real conversation. So with BigHit entering the scene soon, I’m hoping it brings more energy and conversation around rookie boy groups as a whole. It’d be even more fun if SMTR25 debuted too, but I guess they’ll be considered 2026 rookies. Anyway, what do you guys think about this year’s rookie boy groups? I was expecting to like it tbh but it's actually pretty good, I love the instrumentals and also the vocals are literally heavenly. As much as I love their darker concepts I would this suits them more. The mid-week Hot 100 predictions has just dropped, and ATEEZ are predicted to debut on the top 80, this will mark their second entry after their entry a few months ago with Lemon Drop. Big4 stans are losing it, they call this undeserved and fraudulent, because Atiny did this with both digital sales and streaming (physical sales are not counted for the predictions, which means they would have still charted even without the physical CDs) And it got me thinking why so many big4 groups getting into charts through play-listing and radio plays that are obviously paid by companies is considered fair and square, while ATEEZ getting into charts with their fandom’s love and hard-work (a fandom that consists of so many paying adults at that) is considered cheating. Hot 100 know that people can use digital sales to enter, if they didn’t, it wouldn’t have been one of the metrics/ criteria, so acting like ATEEZ are finding loopholes in the system is kinda funny. Add to that the fact that Hot 100 is a US focused chart, and US atinys has always shown ATEEZ so much love, they charted on US spotify, they sold out stadiums there, and they’ve been steady in entering their charts for years now! This is not the first time this happens, after Coachella especially, ATEEZ has been getting so much hate and I can’t help but notice how it’s always been fuelled by jealousy. As a kpop stan since 2014, it breaks my heart to see how monopolised the kpop scene is becoming, and how non big4 artists seem to be questioned about everything, and how it seems like big4 stans can’t stand to see a non big4 group succeed more than their fav! I’m well aware that hate trains (unfortunately) happens to any successful group, but the way ATEEZ have not had a rest since Coachella is so bizarre and weird. For people who are unfamiliar their concept is genderless so their concept does get a little hate from homophobic people. I've seen comments on their tiktoks saying they should disband because they look like girls or anything along those lines. Their debut song imma be was definitely more masc so it wasn't as controversial for other idols to associate with them. They still only did dance challenges with zb1 though (three of the members were on BP). 1&only is way more fem and in an interview Wumuti said they didn't want to ask any idol to do a dance challenge so they didn't feel pressured. It just makes me sad to see them be isolated when they're all so talented and the concept is so authentic to who they are. What are examples for kpop idols? So far I can think of Do Kyungsoo.
