71. The fact is, I kinda mad that Meovv never got a Rookie/New Artist award

  • 14 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The only award they’ve gotten so far is Favorite Rising Artist - MAMA 2024. Their debut timing was tight to win anything, september is when most big award shows still count that month as part of the current year instead of the next year tracking period. But it was already kinda late since tracking usually ends around late Sept or Oct. On top of that, Meovv debuted with just a digital single. And they came out with just a digital single, the company must’ve been super confident thinking the debut would instantly pop off. I get that not winning Rookie of the Year isn’t the end, but every newly debuted group wants that award, since you probably only ever win it once in your career submitted by /u/Difficult_Bit_3025 [link] [comments]

72. What does “Akgae” mean in K-pop fandom? And how is it different from being a solo stan?

  • 14 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’ve been noticing some cultural differences in how we talk about solo stanning, and I wanted to share a term from Korean fandoms: “Akgae” (악개). The word comes from “악질 개인팬” which basically means “malicious individual fan.” It’s shortened into “Akgae.” Key point is the division: * A solo stan = someone who just really, really loves their bias more than the others. Still respects the group overall, doesn’t spread hate. * An Akgae = not only stans their bias, but actively disrespects the rest of the members. They’ll treat others as “background dancers,” spread rumors, or subtly drag other members just to make their fave look superior. In Korean fandom spaces, there’s often a push to make that distinction clear: loving one member the most is fine, but tearing others down is not. And honestly, I agree. Like, having a bias is natural. We all do! But once you start undermining the group or other members just to lift up your fave, that crosses a line. How do you feel about solo stans in general? Do you think the fandom needs stricter boundaries, or is it enough to say “as long as you respect the group, it’s fine”? Personally, I think solo stanning can be harmless, but Akgae behavior is toxic. Curious how others see it 👀 submitted by /u/SignificantElk5574 [link] [comments]

74. What percentage of your listening is your ult group?

  • 15 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

My ult group is TWICE and they make up 21% of my listening on average. Idk if this is low or not but even if it is, I listen to TWICE eight times more than my second most listened to artist. I listen to over 200 artists and over 40 per day on average. If you don't know the exact numbers, just make a guess. I am very curious. Also please explain why you think that number is what it is if you want! submitted by /u/SnooOranges829 [link] [comments]

76. I miss when Kpop groups always had a lot of members

  • 15 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Super Junior - 15 members Seventeen - 13 members EXO - 12 members Loona - 12 members I.O.I - 11 members NCT & Izone too. I don’t have any problem with smaller member groups but either way, only 1 or 2 members in the group end up getting the most spotlight so i dont get the point. Like aespa - for the longest time Karina & Winter mainly got the spotlight. IVE - mainly wonyoung & Yujin got the spotlight. I truly dont think having less members in a group even helps every single member receive the same amount of recognition. I think companies just want simpler and cleaner formation on stage. submitted by /u/Which_Mammoth9402 [link] [comments]

78. Has any of the twice members ever had beef? Like how people always suspect Blackpink members are sometimes beefing

  • 15 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I watch a lot of short clips of twice and they honestly have such a different vibe than other girl groups. (in a good way) It could be the fact that there’s so many members in that group or the fact that they’ve been together for so long now but They genuinely have that “family” like bond with each other and I couldnt imagine any of them to have beef or problems with each other. You know how people always think Lisa & Rose are on bad terms or Jennie & lisa are beefing, etc? Has anyone from Twice have any similar speculations? submitted by /u/Which_Mammoth9402 [link] [comments]

82. Is anyone else loving the fact that we are in a "long hair" girl group era?

  • 16 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

It seems like a majority of girl groups right at this moment have decided to give their girls all looks with longer hair than I am used to seeing (fan since 2016). It could be because of the globalization of kpop, or the fact that they are now obviously using more wigs and don't care if we know it (they used to prioritize natural hair, and would end up frying it by bleaching). Usually at least one girl had a short cut, thenb maybe one up-do but right now it's long down to their butts kinda hair in primarily dark shades. I love the long hair fantasy, personally. submitted by /u/feigneant [link] [comments]

84. JYPE does not have any marketing team - so they are purely reactionary?

  • 16 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

There is this lady who posted on social media. She used to work with JYPE and when she quit she shared her reasons. Gist of it is - she is in marketing and when she joined JYPE she wanted to learn more on that. However, JYPE has no marketing team. At all. All they do is well, sales. While there is some relationship between marketing and sales, she distinctly mentioned that there is no marketing strategies involved other than well, sales. Interestingly, lots of people who know JYPE groups commented that that is expected. I agree as someone who have followed SKZ for years. I think their team really do not have any specific strategy other than see if it sticks. I would compare their ‘marketing’ to other companies and I can see that JYPE is lacking in so many ways that I doubt that much marketing strategies are involved. I do wonder why JYPE is not investing in proper marketing department? JYPE seems to do lets-copy-others strategy half of the time even though they do have some ideas here and there to be a bit different. I will link the video if I can find it again. submitted by /u/Many-Ad-9007 [link] [comments]

85. Healing my relationship with stanning boy groups

  • 16 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Honesty and cringe incoming. I’m 25 (f) and finally became a mature adult after many years of immaturity in my teen years as a kpop stan. I did love the music first and foremost. I didn’t stan groups if I didn’t like the music. But for those I did love, I clung to and prioritized “getting to know” them by keeping up with variety, social media, etc content. I always picked my boy group biases based on who was closest to my ideal type looks AND personality-wise. It was usually always the member I related to and acted the most like too. Some of my bg biases from back then are still my bias today. I simply have a different kind of admiration for them now. Then there’s some other biases I feel kinda traumatized by. I don’t think they would’ve stood out to me if I discovered them today. I wasn’t delusional the way I was with One Direction. For example, 12 year old me genuinely thought I had a shot with Niall! Then I got over that, and I was more grounded with kpop in that sense, but my behavior still caught up with me as I got older. I developed OBSESSIVE crushes on my male biases except they were crushes I only saw on a screen or at a concert, and I was totally cool with that. I didn’t need to date them, but I spent more and more time and money on being their fan. One day I didn’t go to concerts just for the music and experience, but to spend time with my bias/crush, chasing that dopamine high! I saw SuperM live primarily for Lucas, then he got cancelled and disappeared the year after and that was a much-needed wake up call. I finally reflected on my mental state, my behavior, my unhealthy consumption of kpop media, etc. Then I took a 4 year break from kpop, pretty much. I unfollowed every idol on social media, deleted my twitter acc, stopped watching kpop videos, and stopped listening to kpop music altogether. OCCASIONALLY I’d tune into a group’s comeback, listen to the song maybe one time then went on my merry way. Now I think I’m in a much better place mentally. I’ve revisited kpop with a much different mindset, and much more boundaries with myself. I still love many of the same groups’ music and even became a fan of a new bg’s music recently. It just feels so strange and different because I don’t have the same shallow priorities. I lowkey wanna avoid a certain member because several years ago he’d become my bias in a heartbeat and I’d go through that cycle of obsession again. Now I find myself wanting to bias somebody else or none of them at all. Having a bias means something different to me, if it means anything at all now.. it means waaaay less. It’s not necessary to be a fan, yet it’s so ingrained in the fandom culture. It’s hard to escape. How would I even pick now? Why? What for? Idek how other people pick their biases because I’m so used to my own idea of it from the past. I know this may sound like such a non-issue but I ruined a generous chunk of my life with this concept. submitted by /u/Hot-Competition-4141 [link] [comments]

87. YG sucks and is wasting Treasure’s potential

  • 17 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I wasn’t planning to talk about this but I can’t help but notice how Treasure is barely getting any recognition and achievements—they deserve so much more than shitty management. I’ve been a fan since pre-debut and it is kind of disappointing and heartbreaking to see that they could have been one of the biggest boy groups if it wasn’t for YG being incompetent with handling them. I came across a video where Haruto was reacting to a new boygroup named ‘Cortis’ (whose members were much younger than all of them), and I decided to read the comments after not expecting much. But I was surprised to see that there were a lot of comments talking about how Haruto seems like he’d fit right into that group perfectly and how you can see in his eyes that that’s what he exactly wants and not whatever mess YG is putting them through. I couldn’t help but think about it because it’s visible how Treasure is kind of a messy group that keeps shifting and evolving, then regressing. I know comparison isn’t healthy and everyone has their own pace, but at this point, I think comparison could be good to exactly pinpoint and acknowledge how fucked their management is and how much potential has been wasted. It’s a constant battle against their own potential thanks to YG. Treasure has a bunch of good rappers and singers and I think the company should put more efforts to showcase their talents and not just feel like a medium for them to earn profit or keep the company alive. Idk if it’s just me but Treasure feels out of place in YG and there’s a constant shift between themes and concepts. As of last time, Asahi was able to take the lead and produce their title track, while for their latest right now (correct me if I’m wrong), there were barely any participation involved in the work. I’ve heard of other k-pop idols in the industry having to comply with their company with whatever they throw at them—not being able to modify their song, particularly. And it somehow feels like that with Treasure. It feels like YG is just micromanaging this group. Maybe I’m just confused, but surely, YG don’t know how to handle them. I feel really bad because I know these boys trained so hard and worked their way up to be in this group. And I hate to say this: but, I would completely understand if another member leaves again. They have a couple of good songs here and there, and personally, Yellow was their best one so far. I don’t have anything against their other songs but it feels too formulaic and forced, especially when it comes to their bridges. I know many would complain that YG is “focused on the asian demographic” but this is completely just an excuse for bad marketing. They need more recognition; their own strengths need more exposure; and they need songs that fit them all as a whole group and not something that feels unnatural or as if they’re just following a certain trend. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problems with groups following the current trends as of today, but you could feel when it’s not for the group. For fucks sake, YG is messing them up and wasting their potential and talent. I can completely acknowledge that Treasure is a very talented group, and I can also testify that all members have great personalities and are very understanding and supportive of their fans and each other. My boys don’t deserve this kind of treatment and it is just so exhausting to see them be under the radar for so long now. TL;DR: YG keeps failing to show how Treasure is a good group. A lot of members are underrated and it feels like their company is just milking the shit out of them—completely disregarding their individual talents and strengths. Their growth has been stagnant ever since debut. submitted by /u/caouinowhere [link] [comments]
