109. With physical media being phased out for the most part these days, should K-Pop follow as well?

I enjoy collecting albums too if I love the music but it's also sad to see albums artists have worked so hard on being thrown away in landfills and discarded in back alleys. If physical albums are gone what will that mean for album awards like Album of the Year and smaller awards based on physical numbers? submitted by /u/No-Vehicle1562 [link] [comments]

111. Kpop platforms are exhausting and toxic.

  • 23 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

by this I mean dude k platforms are a whole level of insanity recently, feels like 2017 again and well it always has been. for the past 2/3 years I was super busy and was barely into Kpop, and my life was soooo peaceful like my feeds were calm and actual fun stuff instead of chronically online people. And then I got bored and got sucked into it all again, I guess because I took a career break, I forgot how addictive it all is when you're in it, I get what people mean when they say Kpop is intense because it actually feels life consuming due to the content. every emotion is elevated, from happiness to anger, like I want to go back to what my peaceful life was but I enjoy the music and I like the artists and how they are funny, but it's war trying to cater your feed to these things without there being, hate, fanwars, body shaming etc.... its so annoying, why do people hate on other groups so much, why do they want to see others fail so badly? is it bitterness? do they have no fulfilment in their lives? I am a fully employed person with no time to even take a glance at the detail that haters do. why are their hearts filled with so much hostility and hate? and if you are a person who comments these things or engage in posts/ makes the hateful posts, why is that? do you have so little happiness in your heart? I know nothing will ever be sunshine and rainbows I guess I am just at a position where I dont understand how a community that for a long time was full of people who were hiding they liked it and/or made fun of- not everyone- and how its become even worse, it was never great I know that, but I also realised how much happier I was being away from it, which I hate because I want to be involved yet it drains me submitted by /u/sonotmeanttobe [link] [comments]

115. Interesting reactions to plaigiarism, is it bc of petty gamers?

  • 1 day ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

i think most international engenes (not in korea) are seriously underestimating just how negative belift’s rep as a company is here in korea and how this ggum plagiarism is seriously going to affect enha if belift doesn’t step in. Nowadays when you see plagiarism talks in kpop spaces it’s usually lowbrow fanwar manufactured nonsense like “this group copied that groups lighting & outfit color scheme” or “this group used this basic common imagery (like red hearts or pink clouds) & now that group used it too”. not at all newsworthy and the general public doesn’t really care about that. the ggum album keychain plagiarism discourse is unfortunately not that. If you’re into kpop in korea, you know belift as a company that dabbles in plagiarism. they have a reputation for constantly monitoring and ripping off small artists/small brands in a way that’s often grounds for a lawsuit. this reputation comes from multiple plagiarism accusations that each made the news in kpop communities, the mhj/njz scandal & ongoing lawsuits that made national news, and rumors about how belift staff mistreat their own idols. Generally for smaller brands, it would be unwise to sue a company under a major multimillion conglomerate like Hybe. they’ll have to either settle for a stupidly low amount that probably wont even cover half the lawyer fees or risk going bankrupt bc they don’t have enough funds to keep fighting for what’s rightfully theirs. so the public will loudly support them as best as they can and it seems that’s what moas & a lot of k engenes are doing. With the ggum keychain situation, it actually really surprised me when I saw on the international side, engenes were downplaying it and chalking it up to moas overreacting when there was clear concrete evidence unintentionally releases by belift themselves and the original artist agreed that their original limited edition work was in fact used. most k engenes were super upset with the company for lying about the product being artist made when it obviously wasn’t and the rudeness of trying to sell them plagiarized goods. the public reaction was kinda like “ah. belift again. of course.” everyone knows/likes txt & ggum/yeonjun is crazy popular so it’s very audacious for belift to once again keep silent while enhypen unfairly takes the heat from the public and it’s quite disappointing to see in a space that often supports original work and creativity that some are supporting a company that almost always in the wrong over artistic integrity. submitted by /u/RegPop [link] [comments]

So, for context, I made a post on r/kpoppers appreciating Yoongi, and someone made a comment which was uh... less than tasteful. I bring it up on a few posts talking about snarkers, because, right after random comments got downvoted simply acknowledging his artistry. Said person got a little defensive and argued with me for an hour about how I was being "Creepily Parasocial" for apparently acknowledging Yoongi's music, his philanthropy and how I related to him? Funnily enough, I got a DM this morning telling me what they said was ENTIRELY different. Guys, AITA for saying Glucose Oppar should've been acknowledged for something other than scandal? God, the horror. Anyways, this post was made to give context: I find the whole situation hilarious, honestly. I'm not gonna argue with anyone: just needed to give context LOL. submitted by /u/Calm-Comfortable2659 [link] [comments]

The seeds were randomized and I didn’t pick the matchups. The songs picked are amongst their most popular because they’re easy to recognize. If you have another song suggestion you may leave it in the comments but please refrain from complaining about the song not being included. I also try to switch up the listed songs every new round, so the songs you might not know from a group might not be listed as they were listed the previous round. 121. Instead of just hating on groups, why don't we just move on?

  • 1 day ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm talking about every mainstream group who will get hate for any little stupid thing. AND NO, I'm not talking about constructive criticism. Hating on someone for losing weight, than hating for gaining it or the way they eat, perform or even breath at some point. And I'm ready to discuss with every person who thinks those Snark subs and awful Instagram/Twitter threads are made ONLY by kids and teenagers. Please, let's be for real. Even worse, hating someone because they're not helping the rest of the world like wtf. Do you expect people who depend on Visas to save the war? What? This is not their fcking job, goddamn. I hope Companies make sure their artists know that: The more famous you are, the more you'll get hate for the most ridiculous things. Like wasn't that dude from ALLDAY PROJECT getting hate for saying he's not gay? Curb your expectations, kpoppers 🤪 Yes, that's the propaganda K-Pop companies have so we can be obsessed over them. Their job is to make us obsessed with them. But honestly, this is not making any sense to me. Everything seems to be something to discuss, why? submitted by /u/0110I1I [link] [comments]

122. Why sf9 never become popular as they should have been.

  • 1 day ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Sometimes I like to think about why certain groups never became as popular as they could have. For non–Big 4 groups, the obvious hurdle is usually being from a smaller/nugu company. But even in those cases, if managed well, you can still maximize a group’s potential and reach a fairly sustainable level of popularity. One group I often think about is SF9. They had so much potential, but a lot of things went wrong along the way. Here are a few reasons I personally think held them back: Age gap dynamic – With Inseong (’92) and Chani (’00) in the same lineup, the age spread didn’t create the kind of boy group “dynamic” that usually clicks with fans. Unless a group is formed on a survival show, I think this type of age gap doesn’t really appeal as much. FNC’s focus on Rowoon – It often felt like the group existed so the company could push Rowoon (and maybe one other member) as actors. That shift in focus made it seem like the group wasn’t the priority. Visual harmony – This might sound unusual, but the extreme height differences between members made the group look a bit mismatched on stage. There was no cohesive “visual balance,” which actually matters a lot in idol group appeal. On top of that, FNC relied on outdated promotion strategies, which didn’t help in an already competitive 3rd gen/early 4th gen landscape. For me, SF9 had so much raw talent, but the group dynamic never fully came together. Personally, I think they might have been stronger as a 5-member lineup (Taeyang, Hwiyoung, Chani, Youngbin, Dawon). The others didn’t necessarily ruin the group, but they also didn’t add much to its overall synergy in terms of visuals and balance. I used to be a fan until around 2020, when Rowoon’s presence started to feel more detached. Group dynamic is one of the most important factors for me (and I think for a lot of fans) when it comes to stanning, and unfortunately SF9’s always felt off. submitted by /u/Over_Length_440 [link] [comments]

123. Parasocial fans are way too normalized and need to be called out more.

I know it's a driving point of the industry and that companies adore parasocial fans since they garner so much engagement and give so much money; But even amongst these subreddits I see a ton of parasocial posts and whenever it gets called out people dogpile and claim it's "hate". I saw a post on another subreddit practically worshiping an idol and claiming that he "deserves all the praise after all that people put him through last year" The thing they're referring to that he was "put through" was people holding him accountable for drunk driving on the sidewalk of his apartment... I said to them: "Why does he deserve it? “Especially after last year” when you mean he drove drunk on the sidewalk of his apartment… Why are you praising him like he’s a child? This whole post sounds incredibly parasocial." Now they're on multiple subreddits claiming I was hating on them... They praised a grown man like he was their baby or like they knew him, it's creepy and unhealthy. It's parasocial. How is calling unhealthy behavior out "hateful"? And people seriously act like him being held accountable for drunk driving is just "people hating on him"... People really need to stop worshiping famous people and acting like they're your friends; And hold them accountable for their wrongdoings and in this case, crimes... Friendly reminder that these idols don't know you or care about you. submitted by /u/Asleep-Cook1229 [link] [comments]

126. Wendy's solo music - should she try alt rock/metal/gothic

  • 1 day ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm typing this a little after listening to the Cerulean Verge Album Highlight Medley. The album seems to be pop rock leaning, which really suits Wendy imo. It also seems to be the kind of music she enjoys and will be perfect in concerts with a live band. However, i hope the songs have more drama and theatrics involved, since she really excels at expressing both. 'The Road' is one of my favourite songs she's ever released - it always makes me visualise her singing on the stage in an empty, dark, echo-ey theatre, desperately reaching out and trying to find a path. It's emotional, raw and beautiful. An alternative rock or gothic metal leaning song like Evanescence's Bring Me to Life would be PERFECT for Wendy's powerful voice and will finally allow her to go all out. Similarly, a gothic ballad like My Immortal (again by Evanescence) would be absolutely haunting and beautiful with Wendy's expertly crafted vocal delivery. It will stand out from the rest of the industry sonically and vocally and will be a proper departure from Red velvet's sound (although they've alluded to more "horror" / f(x)-like songs in the past, Psycho would probably be the closest to this sound conceptually). Anyway, this was just my take on the kind of sound Wendy should try in the future. I am excited for her first comeback as a soloist under ASND! They seem to be doing well so far for a small and new agency. submitted by /u/zylcasea [link] [comments]

127. We're now in a timeline where people are genuinely trying to claim that BTS' success is fake

  • 1 day ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I honestly find it baffling lol. For some context, Spotify just had it's monthly remove streams thing (I'm sorry I don't know how else to word it) and BTS, specifically the members solos were recognized for losing quite a lot of streams, as opposed to groups like Blackpink and Katseye who weren't affected. I'm not here to make an entire point about how the remove stream thing is fake or something, like yes I'm sure Spotify isn't just removing those numbers solely from BTS for shits and giggles, but I just think the general response to it by fans is odd. You have the fair route that fans are taking, where they're saying it's ironic that groups like Blackpink who are often ridiculed for 'fake' streams by Army's aren't affected. Okay, I get that, go ahead. But aside from those comments that I don't mind, there's multiple, dozen of comments simply stating that 'BTS' succes has always been fake' and how people are just now realizing it. Like what exactly is up with this weird analogy that people are suddenly making. Yes, not all their numbers are 100% true (just like most Kpop groups), but I think the sheer amount of awards, views, not to mention size of the fandom can tell you well enough that they are indeed... successful. That's it, I just think it's an odd loop fans are making submitted by /u/Due_Improvement_5699 [link] [comments]
