3. Kpop songs that no one is ever prepared for?

I'm currently making a playlist of (beloved) kpop songs that generally speaking would make a non-kpop listener go WTF the first time hearing it either because of its absurdity, experimental sound, or that it completely subverts expectation. What are some songs I can add? My playlist so far: aespa - Savage Ateez - Guerilla, Halazia Big Bang - Fantastic Baby Exo - Mama f(x) - NU ABO G-Dragon - One of a Kind, Crayon SNSD - I Got A Boy, The Boys Itzy - ICY Katseye - Gnarly Monsta X - Shoot Out NCT - Baggy Jeans, Cherry Bomb OnlyOneOf - skinz, Chrome Hearts Red Velvet - Rookie, Dumb Dumb, Zimzalabim Stray Kids - God's Menu Super Junior - Spy 2NE1 - I Am the Best submitted by /u/snivyyy [link] [comments]

4. What are your thoughts on JYPE Divisions: ONE Label, BLU:M, STRIDE, SQU4D, Studio J?

  • 58 minutes ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Since late 2017, JYPE has restructured their organizational infrastructure and divided into separate divisions, with each division independently handling marketing, planning, and management for associated artists. These are the labels that we know today: ONE Label (Division 1) - 2PM, Stray Kids, NiziU, NEXZ (NiziU and NEXZ are part of JYP JAPAN but they are managed by Div 1 for Korean activities) BLU:M (Division 2) - ITZY STRIDE (Division 3) - JYP, TWICE, KickFlip SQU4D (Division 4) - NMIXX STUDIO J - DAY6, Xdinary Heroes and there's also JYP CHINA that manages BOY STORY and JYP America with GIRLSET. As a MIDZY, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the divisions your favorite groups are part of. I'll share my thoughts on the ones that I'm familiar with. I won't get into ONE Label and STRIDE because I'm not as knowledgeable about the way they operate. I have a lot of bones to pick with BLU:M. Personally, I think they are the worst operating division in JYPE. I just don’t feel much drive or passion from them. They are the least proactive when it comes to media or promotions, and it often bums me out because other labels seem to put more effort into pushing their artists in new directions, whether it works out or not. BLU:M, on the other hand, feels reluctant and slow to pivot. I could write a whole essay on them but I won't because it will be too long. I honestly believe ITZY could have been even more successful under a different division. I'm just praying that they do ITZY right in their upcoming comeback next month. Studio J, the band division, is one I’m not as familiar with in terms of fan opinions, but I’ve always loved both DAY6 and Xdinary Heroes. They seem to have the most creative freedom musically, but the least in terms of budget. The quality of their music has always been top tier though. I’m not exactly sure how Zombie went viral, but it only took one spark, and once it did, the rest was history. That’s why so many of DAY6’s older tracks are still charting on the Melon Top 100 today. Xdinary Heroes have also been putting out great music, and I’m optimistic their moment will come too. Lastly, there’s SQU4D, home of NMIXX. Personally, I think SQU4D is the best division in JYPE when you look at the full picture. I’ve been following NMIXX more closely lately, and it really feels like SQU4D has figured out how to manage this group. Their in-house variety content is superb, probably the best I’ve seen in terms of editing, creativity, and production value. The concepts and editing style are so trendy and polished. Everything feels high quality. Of course, it also helps that the NMIXX members have the personalities to shine in variety shows. Haewon and Lily are absolute cheat codes. What impresses me most is their musical direction. I’ll admit, I wasn’t a big fan of their debut year music, and it took me a while to give them another shot. Oh, and I thought their styling on the girls was very off in the beginning. But since the start of 2024, they’ve been on an incredible streak. Every release has been high quality, with zero misses in my book. The grand reception from their most recent album says it all. They finally hit the jackpot and captured the GP’s attention with Blue Valentine. It really feels like SQU4D is going all in on NMIXX, doing everything they can to make them the best group possible. Their performance videos look like MVs, and the production value of their music and MV are top tier. I wish ITZY had a division like this that really believed in them, nurtured their potential, and matched their ambition. I've realized that I've only written positive things about SQU4D but I'm sure avid NMIXX fans have their own criticisms to share. After all, no label is perfect, and it's impossible to satisfy all the fans. I’m curious to know what your thoughts are on each of the JYPE divisions. What are you satisfied with, and what do you think could be improved? submitted by /u/Carelessies [link] [comments]

7. Is K-Pop becoming more marketing than music?

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I've noticed that, lately, K-Pop seems to be more focused on numbers and marketing than on musical quality. It's comeback after comeback, endless album versions, rare photocards, and huge campaigns — but, in the end, few songs really make a mark. It seems that companies are more concerned with selling the group's image than building a strong artistic identity. Before, each group had a very clear sound and concept — now everything sounds more “planned to go viral”. Of course there are still artists who make soulful music, but I feel like this has become the exception. What do you think? Has K-Pop become too much of a product, or has that always been part of the industry? submitted by /u/Fun-Diver-6166 [link] [comments]

13. Jungkook's sasaeng fan avoids trial after prosecutor's leniency

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

A woman who attempted to break into BTS member Jungkook’s home on the day of his military discharge will not face trial, sparking online debate about leniency toward celebrity stalkers. The Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office said on Wednesday that the woman received a suspension of indictment on Sept. 10 for attempted trespassing. The decision means that while prosecutors acknowledged her wrongdoing, they chose not to bring the case to court after considering the circumstances and outcome of the crime. Prosecutors said the woman's actions amounted only to an attempt, and that she has since left Korea, making the likelihood of reoffending low. According to police, the woman, a Chinese national, visited Jungkook’s residence in Yongsan District, Seoul, around 11:20 p.m. on June 11 — the same day Jungkook was discharged from military service. She reportedly tried multiple times to enter the home by pressing the door’s passcode buttons, but was caught after nearby residents alerted authorities. She told investigators she had traveled to Korea “to see Jungkook after his discharge.” Police referred the case to prosecutors without detention in August, charging her with attempted housebreaking. The case reignited discussions about stalker behavior targeting K-pop stars, especially after Jungkook himself spoke about invasions of privacy last year. In December, while serving in the military, Jungkook went live on social media during a short leave and briefly showed the interior of his new home. “I saw videos on YouTube about my new house being completed,” he said at the time. “Since I’ve moved, I really hope no one comes to my home. Please, I’m asking you.” What are your thoughts? Is this a gross miscarriage of justice? Do you think cases like these should be taken more seriously by the courts? I'm curious to know your take. submitted by /u/0x1trinity [link] [comments]

Congrats to EJAE for signing with WME for worldwide representation in all areas of her musical career. source This is great news for her as she gets to bypass all the kpop companies and all the constraints that come with working under a kpop company. This means she can be way more creative in what she can do, say and collaborate with. I expect to see a lot more great things from her. submitted by /u/Serious-Wish4868 [link] [comments]

15. Just watched JYP Game Caterers and now I’m mad…

  • reddit.com language

Firstly, helloooo whoever said that JYP artists aren’t entertainers or variety show material is dead wrong? But the thing I’m mad about is the fact that they are by far the most family-like and the most comfortable with each other out of all companies but we’re just now getting these crumbs and moments? The fact that other companies would die to have groups with this kind of bond/friendship and now you have JYPE who ain’t doing anything about this? The most we get are just TikTok challenges up until now. What the hell are you doing JYPE? Give us the JYPNATION concert now!! submitted by /u/Ok-Comfortable9694 [link] [comments]

19. Why is there a constant need to compare groups to show your group is supposedly better

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

This is a rant , no need to say " what is your point while making this post??" I really hate when people start comparing their favs with other to show your favs are better.... Like recently I saw a illit praising reel where baemon fans and bunnies wrote " illit next sulli" and " where did actual music go" uhh..... If you are literally wishing for a person to die , you need therapy. Your favs can do good without their fandom harming others. If the solution to make your favs rise to top is by hating and bringing their competition down , that really shows the mentality of these fans . That's it Extra ranting cause imma go mad rn: Some bunnies commented that illit members are pick me's and copy nj . 20. A Little Appreciation post for Boynextdoor and their unique and fun vocal adlibs!

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

So, BND just had their comeback and their title track features a short trumpet section for the outro. Imagine my surprise when I learned that the sound was actually made by them and it wasn't an instrument! Boynextdoor has always put a lot of emphasis on their adlibbing and taken pride in it. I've honestly not seen many other groups take adlibs and vocal interjections so seriously. They have full blown discussions about it during practice and they are very meticulous about it. Sungho has mentioned how their practice takes much longer because of how they detailed they get about stuff like this. For me, bonedo are excellent live performers because they know how to build and maintain momentum through a song and I think their adlibs and vocal quirks play a huge part in it. Here are SOME examples! a. Another variation of the hollywood action outro where taesan switches to whistling in tandem, instead of joining the trumpet sound. b. Taesan's whistling during earth, wind and fire (lasts around 10 seconds from the point marked in the link). the second whistle wasn't on the og track but the addition is excellent. More! Examples! c. Jaehyun's uh-huh uh-huh adlib that somehow works incredibly well for the song, to the point that ewf sounds empty to me when he doesn't do it. Paired with taesan's whistle here, and it's such a high-energy listening experience. More! Examples! d. They had tons of interesting adlibs going on for their Lollapalooza stage but special shoutout to their 40 second intro for Earth, Wind and Fire and their 20 second intermittent hype-up before the last chorus hits in But Sometimes. They first did the But Sometimes one famously (within fandom atleast) all the way back in 2023, for their first MAMA stage. Alternate Lolla versions for both: EWF, But Sometimes. e. How they pull of this IISILY outro with Sungho and Riwoo going back and forth. f. Even for their See Through cover stage for their encore tour, they added a bunch of adlibs. Cannot link them all but I recommend watching their performance. Special shouout to Jaehyun's po-po-po-po-point. g. Bonus points for the MJ-ey-ey-ey-H! adlib because it's somehow such a earworm. They have so much more going on in their performances, these are just some instances off the top of my head. It's always so enjoayble to see them perform and they always strive to bring something new to the table. They also constantly develop their adlibs and improve them through a comeback circuit, so I'm excited to see what twists they bring to Hollywood Action going forward. That's all!! If you have more examples to share, feel free! Happy comeback, fellow onedoors! :)) submitted by /u/Mindless_musings [link] [comments]
