Saw a store in Busan stocked with lightsticks! One for each group, all totally unique. Fans carry them like glowing badges. It feels like genius merch that builds identity and visual community. But I’ve never seen this outside Kpop. What’s up with that? Cultural thing? Logistics? Or do other fans just not buy into it? I know men also have a big difficulty to escape the hate train in K-Pop, for the dumbest reasons possible but women are on another level. People making fun of Ahyeon's whole personality and saying she wants to be a Jennie wannabe, when all I see in this girl is she just wants attention for the best. I think when you're a member who entered after debut like Yeri from Red Velvet, you feel untouched with your group's fanbase because people will start saying "Oh, for me it didn't make any difference so why she's there?" Yuna! If it's a hip pad who cares? She never said to nobody "Hey, you need to look like me?" So why so much stress about her? Lia also, she's always degraded about her position in the group, like wtf? If she was just a filler member, she wouldn't even sing half of what she sings. And the list goes on and on. If it's about dating, body image, or trying to be sexy and stuff. But honestly, over the last few years, I’ve felt like the K-pop industry has lost a bit of its essence. The music doesn’t hit the same anymore. It feels like so many idols debut just for the fame, and there’s less focus on vocal or rap talent. Everything’s becoming super commercial. That said, I recently discovered BoyNextDoor and xikers, and oh my god — they gave me that old-school K-pop thrill again. There's something raw, refreshing, and passionate about them. Their performances feel genuine, and it reminds me of why I fell in love with K-pop in the first place. I might sound biased but my god 2012 was the BEST time to be a K-Pop fan in terms of groups, music, and talent. 2nd gen was transitioning to 3rd gen. Songs still had stronger hooks. We still had those fun collabs. Everything wasn't always bout fashion brands, leather, and being a baddie. Throwaway account obvs I’ve been into Skz for around 6 years now. Hyunjin has been my bias this whole time. I enjoy the other members too but no one else has come close to being my bias in this time. I listen to music, watch tiktok clips, sometimes I’ll watch lives that have been reposted, a music video here & there, and I’ll watch individual Hyunjin content every so often. I collect OT8 cards but mostly Hyunjin’s. I had never been to a Skz concert before and hadn’t watched much concert performance by them online before. So going into the concert I knew Hyunjin was a bit of a cocky performer. I was excited going to the concert & FINALLY seeing Skz. But once they came out, I very quickly realized I did not like Hyunjin’s performance style in person. He constantly moves around the stage, even when the other members are standing together, and he constantly bops his head around and is non stop moving. Very cocky performance style. His performance WAS NOT bad & they are all amazing performers. But I sincerely did not like Hyunjin’s. I’ve never had post concert depression before but seeing my bias of 6 years perform in person & realizing I hated it has filled me with some kind of weird sadness that I cannot get rid of.
