I hear a lot of the time that an idols main job is to be a singer, and that most of the time the idols can’t even do that but I disagree. Idols are more performers than anything, many can give you a ballad here and there but most of the draw, in my opinion, comes from the more dynamic choreographies as well as more animated stage presence on stage compared to say some western artists. I bring this up because while some idols have trained extensively to be able to sing great live while dancing, many idols as we have see. Have debuted with minimal training. I feel like idols aren’t being worked to the bone in a companies trainee life for 5-10 years anymore which is great for the idol, they can achieve their dreams at a more realistic rate but obviously their proficiency in some skills may not be as high if they were a trainee for say 6 months to 2 years. I think it’s perfectly acceptable to lip sync and adjust the amount based on the choreography. Like, for example, when izna performed Golden from kpop demon hunters at kcon LA, they performed an entirely original choreography that was kind of explosive to me: lots of jumping, highs and lows etc. And that paired with the level of difficulty that Golden as a song is in and of itself, in that situation I find it appropriate to lip sync to not degrade the performance aspect of the stage. And I think many idols encounter this often whether it is a cover or their own song. But when idols do things like this they’re met with so many negative comments and to me some fans don’t seem to live in reality because idols are not robots. Of course I agree that if the choreo is basic enough or they’re standing for a ballad, singing live with a backtrack is the bare minimum fans could ask for in a performance but I feel like regardless of the song or stage, if an idol is lip syncing, there’s going to be someone trying to crucify them but to me I think it’s reasonable to use at times, that’s why I’m feel like I’m missing something.
