11. JUSTB are releasing new music TOMORROW and you should check it out!

  • reddit.com language

So a couple of months ago, one of my all time favorite groups JUSTB made headlines and history when Bain came out as gay during their LA concert on their Just Odd tour. They got a lot of attention for it, but it's understandably quieted down since then, but they're releasing their first new song since then, Too Late, in less than one day - it's out 08.24 12 KST - so I wanted to remind everyone why you should listen to JUSTB! (I also previously wrote a introductory post for them if anyone wants to learn more about them.) Music is always the most important factor in listening to a group for me, and they've been hitting it out of the park. Their hyperpop inspirations in Just Odd were really unique and it's my album of the year. They also sometimes do more pop-rock songs, like Medusa or Still I Luv You. The Too Late teaser makes it sound like one of those, which I'm really excited about. Beyond the music, there are a lot of reasons to be a fan! They have a really great dynamic, ranging from lots of memeing but also they have all been SO supportive of Bain and hyping him up at every opportunity. They've been increasingly managing themselves - not only musically, but also doing their own A&R and networking for the group, editing videos, and more. Being a group from a small agency is harder than ever and they definitely have budget constraints, but they're so dedicated to creating amazing music nonetheless! And yes, of course, supporting a group that made k-pop history! And if you're curious about what they've been up to the last couple of months, they: Made the very hilarious name change from 'JUST B' to 'JUSTB' Spent an entire month in Mexico doing local events and concerts! Had an encore concert in Seoul and have done some busking. This is particularly meaningful because they've said that they didn't expect to be able to perform in Seoul any more after Bain's came out out, which makes me tremendously sad and proud of them Bain has also had some solo activities and interviews, including one with Hong Seok-cheon, a photoshoot in Dazed Korea and more Geonu made a new instagram where he's been editing and posting behind the scenes clips from the Just Odd album and tour. DY composed a b-side Title for iKon Jay's new album Lots of unhinged Tiktok memes In conclusion - Too Late comes out in just about twenty four hours from the time of posting, so please make sure to check it out!!! submitted by /u/josme_ [link] [comments]

13. KARD has niche popularity and a middling fanbase. Now which K-pop artist has high popularity and a silent fanbase?

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Honorable mentions go out to Young Posse, Purple Kiss, and Rescene. Rules: You will have approximately 24 hours to vote. I'd prefer it if you mention one artist per comment and that the artist in question had a "silent fanbase" during their peak. The table of far: Row 1: BTS, Loona, Dreamcatcher Row: 2: IVE, STAYC, KARD submitted by /u/VigilMuck [link] [comments]

14. A lot of you who say "K-Pop rap sucks" are just trying to sound smart

  • 6 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

WE GET IT!! Kpop raps suck compared to actual rap music. You are not smart or cool for pointing this out. In fact, your the dumb one for thinking this matters. Why are we comparing singular rap verses in a pop song to full on western hip hop tracks? Wouldn't the smarter thing be to compare kpop rap verses to raps in western pop songs? (Before I go deeper into this, this post has nothing to do with the cultural appropriation, mocking, or imitating of western rap and western rap culture.) I struggle to wonder why just because two thing's sharing a word (that being "rap"), that those two things have to be viewed on an equivalent scale. That would be like saying kpop is worse than western pop and that this comparison would be fair to make because they are both pop music. While we absolutely can have discussions and productive dialogue comparing kpop and western pop, same with rap and kpop rap, to say one is better than the other is simply illogical because they are fundamentally different things. Yes, the rapping ability of the best western rappers clears the rapping ability of the best kpop rappers. However, a kpop rap verse and a western hip hop track are both attempting to accomplish different things and serve different purposes, so you get nowhere productive by saying western rap songs are better than kpop rap verses. Like imagine trying to decide what is a better play between Hamlet and some teachers acting out the three little pigs for their grade 1 class. One play pushed the limits of what is possible in storytelling in theatre and the other is just to teach and entertain some kids, AND THAT IS OKAY. Both have equal rights to be called a play. We can absolutely have some productive discussion comparing the two, but you see how calling Hamlet the better play literally gets us nowhere or accomplishes anything? And I am not saying this to protect kpop raps from criticism because what they are doing "isn't that deep" or whatever. You can and should push for kpop rap to be better but you have to recognize what makes a kpop rap good, and how that is different then what makes a western hip hop rap good. Making a rap verse work for a pop song, let alone a kpop pop song, let alone all the wild concepts and unique themes kpop songs have can actually be really hard. Rap isn't just rapping ability. When asking if a kpop rap verse is good, we have to ask many questions, many of which have nothing to do with the rapping skill. Does the rap add energy to the song? Does the rap affectionally transition from the chorus to the next verse? Is the rap catchy? Does the rap take you out of the song? What does the rap add to the rest of the song? etc. Why would you want an idol doing a peak western rap verse straight from a hip-hop track in a kpop song when you don't even want that for western music. There is an understanding that rap features in western pop songs are not the same and should not be treated the same or approached like a hip-hop track. Because pop music is different and therefore requires different things. Why can't people also accept the same being true for kpop? It seems like a lot of kpop fans feel the need to tell themselves and convince themselves that kpop sucks. I listen to basically every release that comes out, and I can tell you honestly, the average kpop rap verse is at least serviceable. That does not mean good, but also that means that the average kpop rap is not complete dogshit and ruining the song like many like to claim. I am not trying to discourage music discourse but I just have to call out the people who think they are smart by shitting on kpop rap verses. submitted by /u/SnooOranges829 [link] [comments]

I’ve wanted this card for so long but honestly it’s so expensive it’s like $180 on Mercari but today I just missed a listing for $20 by like 10 minutes so I’m just wondering how pc pricing can be so random. Like I genuinely don’t understand how prices can be so different just days apart yet both be sold on websites like eBay and Mercari. submitted by /u/cherrycat520 [link] [comments]

20. BADVILLAIN COMEBACK THIS SEPTEMBER

  • 7 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

It’s finally happening!! After almost a year in BPM’s basement (literally their last release was last year), BADVILLAIN is reportedly coming back this September. Since ZOOM's promotion ended, we’ve barely gotten any content from them... just a couple of vlogs here and there. So this news really feels huge. Fans have been waiting through one of the longest rookie group droughts, and now we’re finally about to see them return. Also, BADVILLAIN only has 5 songs in their entire one-year career. Three singles, most of them under 3 minutes (some barely hitting 2 minutes 😭). We deserve a proper tracklist this time, more songs. Let’s hope this comeback finally gives us more music. submitted by /u/No_Jeweler_4922 [link] [comments]

21. What's the most "jesse wth are you talking about" take/discourse you've ever seen

  • 7 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I don't mean something general or "unpopular" which just is usually meanly derisive like "I don't like [highly popular person/group] I think they suck egg" or whatever I mean like a highly specific opinion on something extremely niche that kinda reveals that person thought way too much about it given that they even have thoughts on it. A take that probably can't be categorized as unpopular because no one was thinking it to begin with. Discourse that's a sign everyone involved needs to forgo just touching grass and go directly to eating the dirt. This take in the screenshot went platinum in caratland (the qrt ratio is fucking brutal) and I could honestly spend forever dissecting the layers in how insane it is, but today I saw reference to people saying Le Sserafim Chaewon letting her dog kiss her mouth was a sign of her having a fetish, which while not as layered is still definitely a top 10er for sure submitted by /u/SomeRaceHorseName [link] [comments]

…and it’s for the stupidest reason, I’m a fan of this group but I honestly cannot stand this song because of the way they sing the chorus; All I can hear is ‘gay boy’ over and over again 😭 Because of this I just cannot stand the song, not because of homophobia or anything just because I think it sounds genuinely ridiculous and can’t take the song seriously at all.
