So a couple of months ago, one of my all time favorite groups JUSTB made headlines and history when Bain came out as gay during their LA concert on their Just Odd tour. They got a lot of attention for it, but it's understandably quieted down since then, but they're releasing their first new song since then, Too Late, in less than one day - it's out 08.24 12 KST - so I wanted to remind everyone why you should listen to JUSTB! (I also previously wrote a introductory post for them if anyone wants to learn more about them.) Music is always the most important factor in listening to a group for me, and they've been hitting it out of the park. Their hyperpop inspirations in Just Odd were really unique and it's my album of the year. They also sometimes do more pop-rock songs, like Medusa or Still I Luv You. The Too Late teaser makes it sound like one of those, which I'm really excited about. Beyond the music, there are a lot of reasons to be a fan! They have a really great dynamic, ranging from lots of memeing but also they have all been SO supportive of Bain and hyping him up at every opportunity. They've been increasingly managing themselves - not only musically, but also doing their own A&R and networking for the group, editing videos, and more. Being a group from a small agency is harder than ever and they definitely have budget constraints, but they're so dedicated to creating amazing music nonetheless! And yes, of course, supporting a group that made k-pop history! And if you're curious about what they've been up to the last couple of months, they: Made the very hilarious name change from 'JUST B' to 'JUSTB' Spent an entire month in Mexico doing local events and concerts! Had an encore concert in Seoul and have done some busking. This is particularly meaningful because they've said that they didn't expect to be able to perform in Seoul any more after Bain's came out out, which makes me tremendously sad and proud of them Bain has also had some solo activities and interviews, including one with Hong Seok-cheon, a photoshoot in Dazed Korea and more Geonu made a new instagram where he's been editing and posting behind the scenes clips from the Just Odd album and tour. DY composed a b-side Title for iKon Jay's new album Lots of unhinged Tiktok memes In conclusion - Too Late comes out in just about twenty four hours from the time of posting, so please make sure to check it out!!! submitted by /u/josme_ [link] [comments]

Articles / Timeline 250422 This day marks one year since HYBE launched their audit of Min Hee Jin and ADOR's management. Happy(?) 1st anniversary of the Megathreads! 250502 The 3rd hearing for Min Hee Jin vs. Belift Lab was set to take place but postponed to July 18th at Belift Lab's request. Each side is due to present their arguments/documents regarding plagiarism issues at the next meeting. (Source: Maeil Kyungjae) 250530 We learned that ADOR had filed for 'indirect enforcement' after their injunction was granted and NewJeans performed at ComplexCon back in March (Filed on April 4th according to the statement from NewJeans' representatives linked below). On the 30th, the 52nd Division of the Seoul Central District court further granted this request. The 'indirect enforcement' ruling means that each individual member of NewJeans will be fined 1 billion won (approx. $725,000) if they continue with entertainment activities independent of ADOR, which would be in violation of the injunction. This enforcement with potential fines does NOT apply to any of NewJeans' independent activities between the granting of the injunction and the granting of this 'indirect enforcement'. These fines will only apply to future activities going forward, or at least until rulings with NewJeans' appeal or the main contract validity case changes anything (next hearing on June 5th). (Source: Chosun Biz, MK Sports) The Korea Herald: Court orders NewJeans to pay Ador 1 billion won for each unauthorized activity Discussion Post Korea JoongAng Daily: Court orders NewJeans members to pay ADOR $725,600 for every independent entertainment activity A statement by NewJeans' representatives was made later in the day primarily acknowledging the indirect enforcement ruling, but reiterating that it is temporary and will no longer have an effect if NewJeans win their appeal of the injunction. (Source: Ilgan Sports) The 2nd hearing for Source Music's damages lawsuit against Min Hee Jin took place at the 12th Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Western District Court. (Quick recap: 1st was January 10th, 2nd was previously scheduled for March 14th, postponed per Source Music's request). Legal representatives were present. Source Music had a 20-minute presentation prepared, but Min Hee Jin's representatives objected to the inclusion of KakaoTalk messages in the presentation. They claimed the messages were illegally obtained and requested the hearing to be closed/private. Source Music denied the messages were obtained illegally, claiming they were gained from company devices with consent. The court went with a temporary compromise to keep the hearing public, but not allow discussion/display of the messages until they were reviewed again. A special hearing to review the messages will take place June 27th. (Source: Sports Today) 250605 The Seoul Central District Court Division 41 held the second hearing for ADOR seeking confirmation of validity for their exclusive contract with NewJeans. Only legal representatives were in attendance. NewJeans' side primarily argued that ADOR had not met their obligations and that their evidence they were preparing to support NewJeans' activities, like finding a new producer, was inadequate. ADOR's side argued that NewJeans' reasons for allegedly terminating their contract continually changed, indicating they are arbitrary and being made up with retroactive hindsight. The issue of some evidence being collected illegally also came up again from NewJeans' side. Judge Jung Hoe-Il specifically inquired if both/either sides were willing to come to an agreement, encouraging them to do so. NewJeans' representatives strongly indicated this was unlikely as the trust in ADOR had completely collapsed. ADOR's representatives indicated they could see negotiating an agreement once the court comes to a final decision. The 3rd hearing was set for July 24th. (Sources: X Sport News, Maeil Kyungjae) 250612 The next hearing regarding the Shareholder Agreement termination and exercising put/call options lawsuits between HYBE and Min Hee Jin was held at the Seoul Central District Court's 31st Division. Arguments from each side mostly re-tread what we've already covered. HYBE's side argued they were justified in ending the shareholder agreement due to the threat Min Hee Jin posed to the company. Min Hee Hin's side argued the timing of the audit/termination did not align purely with that concern and that some KakaoTalk messages and emails were obtained illegally and not admissable as evidence. HYBE also indicated they had a witness to give testimony at the next meeting, which the court accepted. The next hearing with closing arguments, was set for September 11th for both lawsuits. (Sources: Maeil Kyungjae, TV Daily, Sports Today) 250617 Following up from April 16th when NewJeans appealed the court's decision to uphold the injunction and halt on their independent activities, the Seoul High Court reaffirmed the earlier decision. The court rejected NewJeans' appeal. They determined there was no significant change in the material/arguments presented for the appeal and the original decision to grant ADOR's injunction was justified. There was further clarification that the management conflict between HYBE and Min Hee Jin, and her no longer being NewJeans' producer, did not constitute a valid argument for the alleged collapse of trust between ADOR and NewJeans. The group's withdrawal from ADOR is considered arbitrary, that their artistic freedom or activity is not impeded since they are able to do so within their exclusive contract, and that any damages resulting from attempting independent activities are self-inflicted. Obviously, we all have our own opinions and tastes are subjective, but I'll never understand those who make posts like "XYZ disappointed me again" and start ranting about everything they hate. Let me clarify, I'm not talking about disappointed fans, but people who already have a constant problem with a group and their work, and yet they seem to be paying attention. 11. A lot of you who say "K-Pop rap sucks" are just trying to sound smart

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

WE GET IT!! Kpop raps suck compared to actual rap music. You are not smart or cool for pointing this out. In fact, your the dumb one for thinking this matters. Why are we comparing singular rap verses in a pop song to full on western hip hop tracks? Wouldn't the smarter thing be to compare kpop rap verses to raps in western pop songs? (Before I go deeper into this, this post has nothing to do with the cultural appropriation, mocking, or imitating of western rap and western rap culture.) I struggle to wonder why just because two thing's sharing a word (that being "rap"), that those two things have to be viewed on an equivalent scale. That would be like saying kpop is worse than western pop and that this comparison would be fair to make because they are both pop music. While we absolutely can have discussions and productive dialogue comparing kpop and western pop, same with rap and kpop rap, to say one is better than the other is simply illogical because they are fundamentally different things. Yes, the rapping ability of the best western rappers clears the rapping ability of the best kpop rappers. However, a kpop rap verse and a western hip hop track are both attempting to accomplish different things and serve different purposes, so you get nowhere productive by saying western rap songs are better than kpop rap verses. Like imagine trying to decide what is a better play between Hamlet and some teachers acting out the three little pigs for their grade 1 class. One play pushed the limits of what is possible in storytelling in theatre and the other is just to teach and entertain some kids, AND THAT IS OKAY. Both have equal rights to be called a play. We can absolutely have some productive discussion comparing the two, but you see how calling Hamlet the better play literally gets us nowhere or accomplishes anything? And I am not saying this to protect kpop raps from criticism because what they are doing "isn't that deep" or whatever. You can and should push for kpop rap to be better but you have to recognize what makes a kpop rap good, and how that is different then what makes a western hip hop rap good. Making a rap verse work for a pop song, let alone a kpop pop song, let alone all the wild concepts and unique themes kpop songs have can actually be really hard. Rap isn't just rapping ability. When asking if a kpop rap verse is good, we have to ask many questions, many of which have nothing to do with the rapping skill. Does the rap add energy to the song? Does the rap affectionally transition from the chorus to the next verse? Is the rap catchy? Does the rap take you out of the song? What does the rap add to the rest of the song? etc. Why would you want an idol doing a peak western rap verse straight from a hip-hop track in a kpop song when you don't even want that for western music. There is an understanding that rap features in western pop songs are not the same and should not be treated the same or approached like a hip-hop track. Because pop music is different and therefore requires different things. Why can't people also accept the same being true for kpop? It seems like a lot of kpop fans feel the need to tell themselves and convince themselves that kpop sucks. I listen to basically every release that comes out, and I can tell you honestly, the average kpop rap verse is at least serviceable. That does not mean good, but also that means that the average kpop rap is not complete dogshit and ruining the song like many like to claim. I am not trying to discourage music discourse but I just have to call out the people who think they are smart by shitting on kpop rap verses. submitted by /u/SnooOranges829 [link] [comments]

  • reddit.com language

It’s finally happening!! After almost a year in BPM’s basement (literally their last release was last year), BADVILLAIN is reportedly coming back this September. Since ZOOM's promotion ended, we’ve barely gotten any content from them... just a couple of vlogs here and there. So this news really feels huge. Fans have been waiting through one of the longest rookie group droughts, and now we’re finally about to see them return. Also, BADVILLAIN only has 5 songs in their entire one-year career. Three singles, most of them under 3 minutes (some barely hitting 2 minutes 😭). We deserve a proper tracklist this time, more songs. Let’s hope this comeback finally gives us more music. submitted by /u/No_Jeweler_4922 [link] [comments]
