Hellooo I am 21M and I will love to have friends in NYC with who I can go to concerts, pop up events, kpop stores and basically hangout and rant about kpop! I started listening to K-pop in 2017 thanks to NCT 127, which is how I became interested in the genre and discovered a ton of groups. I consider myself a multistan of both bg and gg, and over the years l've managed to see several of my favorite groups in concert, but honestly I can't help but feel alone in this hobby. I'm an extrovert so it has never been difficult for me to make friends, but so far I don't have any friends who share this hobby. I've tried several times at concerts to make friends and I am normally able to, but they already have their group of friends established, so after the concert they don't really keep in touch. That's why I decided to write this post here, hopefully I can finally make some kpop friends here in NYC!! submitted by /u/Chemical_Ad1564 [link] [comments]
I noticed this happening a lot lately. Fandoms will constantly call out certain fanbases if they see any toxic behavior. But some fanbases be toxic all the time and never get called out. The fandoms even defend and make excuses for these fans like ânot all X fans are like this. Donât generalizeâ or âstop making X fans look bad.â submitted by /u/taejinkook28 [link] [comments]
My post was already banned on another subreddit (ironic considering theyâre supposed to be uncensored) and I am probably going to get downvoted here as well for this considering that nmixx whilst isnât necessarily Redditâs favourite, they are still quite universally liked regardless or there is nothing to dislike about them. After some recent reported sales this year, Iâve started to become incredibly doubtful whether some of these groups are actually selling how much theyâre selling. Now Iâm only going to focus on nmixx because I feel the most suspicious about them but regardless, it is not only this group that I have some doubts about. Anyway, the group who Iâm most suspicious about is Nmixx. Now I know theyâre a group whoâve had the exact same speculation quite a few times in the past, but I continue to not see how they sell like this. This isnât me just hating for them no reason, for me the data heavily doesnât line up to the point I have to consider them a massive outlier in every metric against competition. Many times when this has been brought up, when I use the other 4th gen ggs and even ggs under their own company or bgs, who nmixx sells in the same levels of, as a medium of comparison, people instantly denounce it and say it is flawed because of this but I personally donât see how. The top 4th gen ggs being lsfm, njs, aespa, ive, idle and the gg under their company being twice. Whilst nmixx doesnât necessarily sell more than 4 of them (their recent album very slightly outsold lsfm although lsfm has more overall sales this year due to back catalogue) they are still extremely close to this competition especially twice considering twiceâs recent album has sold 795k to nmixxâs 751k. Now we all know nmixx is way behind in terms of streaming, their song didnât even enter top 100 melon this year and the Spotify streams were very eh whilst all the other groups had either strong showings on platforms like Spotify (lsfm, aespa, twice), YouTube (everyone) or melon (everyone but twice and idle). We also know that nmixxâs engagement is way below on pretty much all platforms of interest whether Weibo, douyin, yt, TikTok, insta etc. But even then I could consder nmixx fandom to be like a bg, they sell well but their chart performance isnât that good but then again, bgs who sell like this aka tws, ateez, treasure etc actually have decent chatting whether Korean or on Spotify. But that isnât the main issue for nmixx as at the end of the day weâre talking about album sales and not streaming charts but against all these ggs, nmixx doesnât just falter massively behind in terms of streaming charts whether Korean, global, Japanese, Chinese etc they also falter in the most important thing in this case which is album charts behind these same ggs. You can attribute sales of all the other ggs to different charts in different countries. For example, I can reference idleâs 1 million sales this year to their massive Chinese fandom hence why you see them chart well on Chinese charts and their cbar sales especially yuqi is always high. Lesserafim can be attributed to Sakura cbar, over 100k sales for kr album from just japan (oricon) and idk exact figures but like 60k+ sales from usa on billboard 200. Aespa can be attributed to also billboard 200 (recent prediction had them at like 37k debut I believe), their massive cbars, their jp sales on oricon for their jp album (166k) because kr album hasnât been reported yet, large kr fandom backed by charting. Ive can also be attributed to cbars, massive young Kr fandom, very high Japanese sales for jp album (177k) and kr album (60k) on oricon etc Twice also to their us sales which is the highest out of all these groups, jp sales only behind lsfm, currently the most streamed gg on Spotify etc Yet nmixx cbars are no way near as big as the these ggs, they havenât charted on billboard 200 with their recent album, they donât chart on pretty much any European charts and their oricon sales is literally 5k. So they donât sell well in pretty much any major market of K-pop consumption so Im going to have assume pretty much all of their sales is coming from Korea. Now if nmixx was selling 600k-700k just from Korea especially for a gg, theyâd easily have the sort of fan base where they are able to chart on the melon top 100 but clearly they werenât even able to do that so idk. Maybe they have a large fandom who just buy and donât stream, so their concert attendance might be decent. But whilst sure they havenât gone a tour yet, their fan concert in Korea was at jangchung arena with a max capacity of 4500. I previously said in this post that they struggled to sell but supposedly to a commenter they did not struggle to sell but from what photos I saw, the arena I believe did not open all the seats which I assumed were unsold. I am sorry for the misinformation . Regardless, I still donât think that infers having a fandom on the level which can sell 600-700k sales in just Korea especially considering other ggs who sell way less (as Iâve shown facts for) in jp are able to hold Tokyo domes whilst nmixx is playing in a much smaller capacity. Im not trying to downplay that capacity as thatâs actually very good for the average K-pop group all things considered but that also is a representation that they clearly donât have a big fan base in kr either. This ainât even a case of mass buying from rich fans or whatever because mass purchases will still show up on these charts regardless so genuinely what chart do they show up on where something like at least 20k (small number considering the 750k sales) can be reflected. So in the end, the only way nmixx is selling THAT many sales (750k is a lot all Im saying) is if I consider them to be EXTREMELY massive outliers, not only for ggs but K-pop groups as a whole, where they donât chart well (for the level of sales), donât appear on pretty much any album charts (for the levels of sales) and definitely donât tour as well (sure their tour hasnât yet been announced but all the other ggs are playing in the realms of Tokyo dome which I know mmixx by no offence can do). With that being said, can someone genuinely tel me where 750k of their sales are coming from? Im not even trying to say they donât sell anything and are flops but just that whatever division of jyp theyâre under is clearly pushing up their sales. Realistically they probably sell slightly less than their other sister group in itzy (not a bad thing), who for me clearly have way better metrics on every single platform which isnât Korean (they both dont chart well so who really cares) showcasing itzyâs own fan base is also imo way bigger. That would mean nmixx sell like 400k which is still incredibly impressive for a gg just not 750k. submitted by /u/No-Story7823 [link] [comments]

hello everyone! iâm on the e-board for my collegeâs k-pop club, and we are looking for new activities for our club meetings this year. in the past we have done photocard decorating, bracelet making, trivia, bring your own presentations, and random play dances. while these are fun, we want to spice it up a bit this year and provide our club members with newer, more exciting activities! so, if anyone has any suggestions, i would super appreciate them! also to note: we are a small club, so larger scale or expensive ideas might not be feasible for us! submitted by /u/SeliCatt [link] [comments]

Letâs build a girl group with each member representing a different Asian country! Here are the rules: 1) Comment only 1 girl per country along with a picture. 2) They DO NOT have to be from a K-Pop group specifically, but they do have to be from a girl group! 3) Bi-racial idols are allowed, however, if they win for one category, they are ineligible for another. 4) Votes will be calculated after 24 hours. First off, letâs pick a member to represent South Korea! Once we complete this chart, weâll do the same with a bit group! submitted by /u/sailormusic [link] [comments]
I don't know if it's just me, but I'm always really happy to hear idols talk about their experiences in the industry and opinions about their work as artists. I bring up older Gen Z idols (1997-2003) more generally because they're around the age/seniority to start releasing solo work. Although I've been a K-Pop fan for a while now and have heard idols talk about their work, I'm in this older Gen Z age group. So, it's more interesting for me to hear about the experience of making music from people around my age. However, I am especially interested in these perspectives from the idol industry because: It's pretty strict and many idols tend to keep things private, so when they do speak more frankly it feels refreshing. Many idols don't get to make solo music, let alone have any production influence over what they put out. I started thinking about this while watching Mark's Muk2U episode for his first album. His behind-the-scenes stories were really interesting and gave a lot of insight into what his solo release means to him personally. I also saw his mukbang with Charles Entertainment and enjoyed that because he briefly got to talk about his religious faith and how that shows up in his life and work. I thought all of this was very vulnerable and it has made me appreciate his album a lot more. I feel similarly about the way Stray Kids talks about their music. They have an "INTRO" series where they describe the album-making process and reasoning for choosing certain songs or lyrics. I've also been really interested in hearing how one of their members and producers, Han, incorporates his emotions into his music. He and the members have been vulnerable about his previous mental health struggles (something I thought they'd never mention) on their show 2KidsRoom. He has also released solo music like "Alien" and "Human", which reflect his journey towards a sense of belonging. I know that not all idols want to put themselves in their art in the same way that Mark, Han or other artists do. For some, being a pop star is just a job or their persona is seperate from who they are. Still, for those who want to be vulnerable, I wish we got more of this artistic insight and analysis from idols. I remember Jennie*'s interview with Dua Lipa from a couple years ago where she talked about her about her Korean identity and wanting to make future idols feel more comfortable expressing themselves through their art. I hope she and other idols are able to express themselves through their music and talk about what they perform with more depth. * I know Jennie was born in 1996, but my point is to talk about the autobiographical components of idol solo music right now, so that's why I bring her up. submitted by /u/bananasnalmonds [link] [comments]
â ď¸ CONTROVERIAL WARNING â ď¸ I'll try and keep this short and not waffle but obviously it's a really rampant thing. I hate how I-KPOP stans love to cancel some groups while completely brushing over the fact that they're hella popular in Korea and the fact that some of THEIR faves haven't apologised for anything controversial they've done. For example, Tarzzan of alldayproject now obviously he's done cultural appropriation and apologised (which was apparently pre written i lowkey don't think so...) and he's cancelled internationally to the point some people are boycotting their music, okay that's fine but I think it completely brushed over I-KPOP stans heads that (especially with new groups) they are still going to be popular in korea and cancelling them overseas doesn't change the korean publics perception of them. The same situation with kiss of life (take this with a grain of salt) they are most probably still well liked in Korea. This moves me on too my second point about I-KPOP stans brushing over their faves controversies while dragging another group through the mud. I don't really have much as I'm not as heavy of a kpop stan as I used to be so if you know any groups just say them. (P.S dont think im backing tarzzan or kiss of life im talking about international kpop stans here). submitted by /u/kellogbox [link] [comments]
