2.342. Male fans of boy groups, what groups do you like and why?

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I am asking this because I'm a dude, 29 years old now and I used to be a big fan of older boy groups. Super Junior, Shinee, Infinite, B1A4, Nu'est, Vixx etc. (basically 2nd and some 3rd gen) But nowadays I can't find a male group that just clicks. I get into groups for a while (like Ateez with IOMT, the styling and song were really cool, some OOF titles, KickFlip's Knock Knock, TWS' hey! hey!) but I just remain unimpressed as a whole. The only modern boygroup I have been a fan of for a significant amount of time is Seventeen but that's mostly due to Going Seventeen, not their music, at least in the past few years as their sound has changed. I also have some gripes about modern bgs pandering heavily to parasocial female fans, and I do understand why, as that pays the bills and that's 99% of their fanbase. And it's not really for lack of trying. I do listen to basically every new comeback from every group I come across but it doesn't click. Maybe I'm honestly just getting too old for this lmao and 20 year old boys trying to act cool doesn't hit anymore. Two groups I'm relatively invested in right now are 82MAJOR and CLOSE YOUR EYES, they seemingly have a lot of potential but maybe I'm just more empathetic because they're nugus. submitted by /u/SAMPAS [link] [comments]

2.344. TWICE fans keep saying TWICE deserves BLACKPINK’s success — but never put in the work

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Every time a post about BLACKPINK’s global popularity pops up, there’s always a few ONCEs in the replies crying about how “TWICE deserves that level of success.” But here’s the thing — deserve doesn’t mean receive. K-pop is a global industry now, and the audience doesn’t care about who’s been around longer or who releases more music. They care about impact, image, and presence. And that’s where TWICE has consistently fallen behind. ONCEs love to talk about how TWICE works harder, releases more music, and has “better vocals” — but where is the actual push for global success? Where are the fandom-wide streaming projects, the virality, the hype-building? They can’t even be bothered to promote TWICE's English releases properly — the songs drop and vanish, while BLINKs will literally camp out on every platform making sure a BLACKPINK release dominates. It’s also ironic how ONCEs constantly whine about unfair comparisons but only bring up BLACKPINK when trying to validate TWICE. “TWICE paved the way for GGs!” “TWICE has better discography!” “TWICE would be bigger if they had YG’s budget!” It’s been almost a decade — maybe it's time to accept that they simply took different routes. BLACKPINK went the global domination, fashion-icon, brand-ambassador, viral route. TWICE took the domestic consistency and idol-fan-service route. And that’s fine. But stop acting like one deserves the other’s success without doing the legwork. You can’t complain about being “underrated” forever while ignoring the reality of marketing, branding, and international relevance. If ONCEs want TWICE to have BLACKPINK’s success, they need to act like it — not just whine on Reddit every time someone praises BP. submitted by /u/Swimming_Strength727 [link] [comments]

2.348. The kpop dancing scene can be one of the most toxic parts of the fandom

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm still new to the scene, but since I've been doing it for around two years I have come to the conclusion that a long with the overall kpop community sometimes being toxic that the kpop dance community is also toxic as hell. All over the world there are dance crews and dancers trying their best to dance their favorite kpop songs to post on their socials and perform at events / competitions, but the amount of people who really think they are idols or professional dancers is absolutely ridiculous. What start out as a fun hobby turned into dance crew drama, people who have no professional dance experience thinking they are better than everyone else, fatphobia, and racial exclusion. There are people who legit think they are running a label and treat it like their dance mates are under actual legally binding contracts. Then you have those groups that perform in public and have no respect for spaces that the general public use / walk through for their covers. submitted by /u/MochaMilku [link] [comments]

These groups and soloists are not from the big 4 and are not very popular. They don't have a first win yet. It can be a girl group, a boy group, a female soloist, or a male soloist. My favorite songs from Rescene: - YoYo - Lucky You - Love Attack - Crash - Glow Up - Going On - Mood My favorite songs from ifeye: - IRL - Bubble Up - Friend Like Me - Round And Round - Echo - r u ok? 2.355. Kpop stans want female idols to hate each other so bad

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’ve always hated how kpop stans (not only them, I know and I am aware☝️) seem absolutely obsessed with the idea of girls hating each other for some reason. I’ve always thought that mindset is misogynistic, because for years people have had this idea that women can’t do anything together without fighting. It really bothers me, especially because all of this comes from the fact that society has always tried to put women against each other. It’s not a biological thing like some people say, it’s literally systemic. Now, I’m aware that there are girl groups where some members don’t get along, but I already explained the reason, why it’s not a biological thing before. But now people apply this mentality to literally every single girl group, especially those with many members like tripleS. I’m genuinely so sick and tired of people being obsessed with their dynamics, saying things like “I bet they hate each other” or “there’s no way they’re all friends.” I’m not here to say friends don’t fight or that tripleS are all close besties because of course I don’t know them personally. The problem, like I said, is the unnecessary obsession. Sure, this mentality can apply to boy groups too, but it’s objectively not as strong as with girl groups. It’s really sad that because of this mindset, I’ve often seen people unable to praise female idols without putting them against each other, even if they’re in the same group. For me, it’s even more sad that a good portion of the people who say stuff like that are women. The self hate is so deeply rooted unfortunately. submitted by /u/ForceApprehensive597 [link] [comments]

2.356. The anti-Japanese sentiment in kpop is actually insane and no one talks about it enough

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

People really don’t get how bad Japanese idols have it in kpop. Like not just “oh they’re treated a lil different” no bro they get dehumanized. It’s been a pattern for YEARS(this goes for like every foreign idol) but You can be talented as hell trained for years fluent in Korean and they’ll still treat you like you’re just “there to decorate.” Giselle awspa Fluent in 3 languages, trained fast, has a solid voice STILL: • Gets barley any lines and disappears in songs • Constantly cut out of choreography like she’s not even in the group • SM literally deleted her from group intros on social media • They posted teaser pics for aespa and just skipped her like she didn’t exist and gets discriminated in company ads Theres alot of ads where she isnt even in them and sm skips her even in the japanese ones • No protection from online hate AT ALL • skipped her on the big screen in JAPAN HER HOME COUNTRY • Meanwhile Karina and Winter get babied by the company every time And even tho she’s half Korean, it doesn’t even matter. Koreans hate her guts like she personally did something to them. They never gave her a chance, from debut till now. Hitomi iz*one Won Produce 48 fair and square STILL: • Treated like a background prop • Rarely ever center despite being top 9 • Got almost zero lines in multiple songs • In variety shows? She’s just… there. Barely spoken to. • Korean staff would literally ignore her in videos like she was invisible Yuta (NCT / SM Ent.) – Debuted in 2016, trained hard, loyal to the group STILL: • No solo teaser when NCT 127 launched, like he wasn’t a real member • Got the least lines, even less than newer members who just joined • Everyone else got birthday merch not him • Did actual dangerous stunts on camera with no safety precautions (climbing walls, sharp objects, etc.) • In their own documentary, he said: “I wondered why I was even there.” • Got surgery to look “more Korean” just to try and be accepted :( he was so beautiful before Sana twice – Said one thing on Instagram: “Goodbye Heisei” (referring to the Japanese emperor stepping down) The way Korean netizens LOST it was wild. They blew it up like she committed war crimes. She got flooded with comments calling her disgusting, traitor, everything under the sun i literally witnessed it and i swear some of those insults made European racists look like angels. It wasn’t just a few trolls either. The hate got so big it made headlines in Korea. There was many articles calling her pigs and shit in korean just because of that And she had to apologize for… what exactly? Being Japanese and acknowledging her country’s history? And misamo went through alot with xenophobia in korea Like it’s so obvious. These idols are treated like they don’t belong no matter how hard they work. They never get defended. Companies just stay silent. Meanwhile, their Korean groupmates are protected 24/7, even when they’re in scandals or messing up on stage. And all of this ties back to deeper issues. It’s not just company favoritism. It’s cultural resentment, and it’s been passed down for generations. Yes, there’s history between Korea and Japan and yes Japan absolutely did horrible things. But why are modern day idols who were BORN after all of that still being punished for it? They’re just trying to perform and make a career, and people are out here treating them like their existence is political. submitted by /u/welpnko [link] [comments]

2.359. Do people complaining that TWICE have lost their sound listen to TWICE?

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts saying TWICE has lost their sound because they’re becoming more westernized. I respectfully disagree, TWICE still sounds like TWICE, just grown up TWICE. They’re not kids anymore so they won’t make songs like Likey, TT or Cheer up. Their most recent album, This is for, is soooo TWICE-coded, I’m surprised people say it doesn’t sound like them. Even songs that are not as “kpop” like “Right hand girl”, makes so much sense to me for TWICE or even “Let love go” or “Mars”. So that’s why I think people that think TWICE have lost their sound either aren’t accounting for their increase in age or do not listen to their B-sides. So I’m curious, if you think TWICE has lost their sound, did you listen to the album or just the title song? Have you ever been a Stan or only a casual listener? submitted by /u/AquaAriesSag [link] [comments]
