I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but it really hit me recently watching some of his interviews and variety content: Has anyone else felt like Sunoo has been slowly coming out to us—especially in 2025? It’s always kind of been one of those unspoken things, like “yeah, we know,” but because of how conservative South Korea still is, he obviously can’t just come out and say it. That said, I really feel like he’s been gently stepping more into his truth, in ways that feel both intentional and deeply personal. And it’s been beautiful to witness. In multiple video interviews, Sunoo has highlighted Troye Sivan and Lady Gaga as major musical influences. Both artists are celebrated queer icons—Troye as an openly gay singer, and Gaga for her strong LGBTQ+ advocacy. These aren’t random names—they’re powerful figures in queer music and culture. It just felt like a soft nod, like he was saying, “I see you” and maybe even “I see myself in them.” He's also been stepping more into himself this year, trying new looks, but still staying true to his image. It’s not just about fashion or a music taste—it’s how comfortable he seems now compared to earlier years. The way he interacts with fans, how he speaks about himself, his body language... something’s shifted. His graceful posture, playful facial expressions, hand gestures, and his ease with "feminine" aesthetics. It’s not just because he’s ‘femme’—that doesn’t automatically mean gay. It’s about the freedom he seems to feel in not conforming. The interpretation isn’t just "he’s sassy so he must be gay," but rather "he doesn’t suppress traits many queer people are taught to hide." When it comes to his stage presence, Sunoo delivers with a kind of fluid confidence that doesn’t feel like he’s "acting sexy" for women—he just is. Compared to other idols who seem to perform a "straight flirt" persona, his delivery feels more authentically expressive and not gender-targeted. He tends to choose outfits that defy masculinity norms even in casual content. He often gravitates toward melancholy, emotional, or gender-neutral songs during karaoke or challenges. Also, his voice. He speaks in that higher, softer, almost sugary tone many gay men do. To be clear: I’m not trying to “out” him or make definitive claims. If Sunoo is queer, that’s for him to share on his terms. But I do think we’re seeing something real: a young person navigating a conservative culture, a public spotlight, and still finding ways to quietly assert who he is. If he is slowly coming out in his own way, I hope he knows how many of us see him, support him, and are proud of him. Thoughts?
