15.258. A quick note about the generalization rule

  • 2 years ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The subreddit is mostly uncensored as long as people follow the rules. Generalizing statement about Korea, Korean society, etc or most other countries are not acceptable except under the following standards: The only claims that are acceptable when generalizing Korean society in this sub are those that bring up generalizable stastical claims by the standards of the international statistics institute. Not only do the vast majority of stastistics you can find on the internet about Korea not up to this minimum, basic standard but this requirement includes having ample sample size, blocking by relevant demographics and sometimes even double blind tests. So if you make a generalizing claim, your wording must be properly formatted and links to the relevant studies provided. In other words, the standard for making a generalization is very high in this sub. Not to mention the wording for your claim has to be properly made. Anyone who has taken a college level statistics class will know what I am talking about and we may even require you to provide the confidence level interval if it's relevant for your study. If you cannot meet these standards, I would just avoid doing it in general. submitted by /u/Kpop_Love_Forever [link] [comments]

5. Noticed something and now I want a Miyeon x NMIXX crossover episode

Ever since the last i-dle album came out, the track Miyeon wrote/composed reminded me of something but I couldn’t put my finger on it, until this week when Spinnin On It came out, and it finally hit me: it kinda sounds like it could be an NMIXX song. NMIXX - Spinnin On It i-dle - Unstoppable It’s a different vibe, but the drums/bass/ad-lib layering has something, or am I crazy? Anyway, now that Miyeon just announced she’s working on her solo comeback, I’m obsessed with the idea of her getting Haewon and Lily (or all 6 why not it’s not going to happen anyway why not dream big) to feature on a track submitted by /u/zoooeys [link] [comments]

12. Was my ex friend weird for this or am I being dramatic?

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I've been plagued thinking about the way a friend I used to have acted. She did used to gaslight me a lot, so at the time of our friendship I thought the things she did and said were normal, but after almost a year of being apart, I've realized they were a bit odd. To start it off, she was a person that would get multiple tickets to different stops for the same artist during the same tour. She would brag about the fact that she saw TXT like six times in one year. She would also get VIP and barricade, and claim that Soobin looked at her and that he was practically her best friend. She also claimed that Yeonjun "hated" her because he would glare everytime he saw her. At first I thought these were all just jokes, but she was being dead serious. She would zoom in and pause videos she took of them on stage to have "proof" for her claims. She would say that she didn't care about her seating arrangements when it came to concerts, yet ditched me at my very first kpop concert because she wanted to be closer. I had bought tickets for both of us, and as we were going through the arena doors she disappeared, then texted me and said she got a different ticket last minute. Then, after the concert, bragged about how the group members noticed her because she was the only one getting hype and dancing, basically saying she was y/n and the members couldn't stop looking at her lol. She was a bit koreabooish at times too. She would say weird things about Asian men, claiming that they are the only men she'll go for. I remember when I had a slight crush on a guy and he was white, and she clowned me for that and said something along the lines of "I'm sticking with Asians." I didn't say anything, but it struck me as odd at the time. Anytime we had an interaction with an Asian person, she would make a big deal about it. If it was a woman, she would claim they were hating on her. If it was a man, suddenly her personality completely changed and she became the sweetest girl ever. Just things like that were a bit weird. Lol now that I've typed everything out, I ultimately realize it was hella weird how she used to act. Has anyone else been around a friend who's been like this? submitted by /u/browsinggirlie [link] [comments]

13. Which idols actively participate in fanservice or encourage it?

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Okay, I know this might get a lot of downvotes, but I’ve noticed something interesting. In the past, Taehyung would completely avoid doing any kind of fanservice, but this year, it definitely made me raise an eyebrow when he posted a picture of himself sitting on Jungkook’s lap right after the Coca-Cola controversy. Then, not long after, he uploaded a random Instagram reel of himself eating with Jungkook beside him. I don’t know but it just seemed a little strange. That's just me though maybe I'm reading too much into it! submitted by /u/Sea-Republic8892 [link] [comments]

14. Why is everyone so nonchalant about literal teens getting plastic surgery now?

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

"The HYBE nose" "The SM chin" "All female idols in SM end up having the same face at some point" I understand that for Koreans it's a societal thing for them and it's almost a norm for literally everybody there to get plastic surgery but why is everyone else normalizing this? Why does a 16 year old have veneers? Why is a 22 year old on their 3rd face? Why does a 17 year old have a nose job? Why is a 19 years olds face not moving? That's not normal. And don't "Let people do whatever they want" me. I hate that saying. I fucking hate it. I understand we live in a time where autonomy is super important but we are literally going to "Let people do whatever they want to their faces and bodies" ourselves to death. Plastic surgery is scary. You are literally changing and restructuring your bones and muscles and tendons. Altering your body that much can lead to life changing (and sometimes life ending) results. It's also never a guaranteed one and done. You can get a nose job, hate the way it looks, and now you're scheduling a second nose job to fix the first. Veneers are even scarier. They're permanent. Once you get composite veneers, that's it. It doesn't matter if you're 35 and hate how the teeth you loved at 16 look. It's done. And I get there's nuance. Trust me I do. Idols are judged harshly. They're in the spotlight. 9 times out of 10, attractiveness is a selling point for a lot of groups. I get it. At the same time, let's stop acting like teenagers getting plastic surgery is something to overlook. submitted by /u/cocochanelism [link] [comments]

16. KPOP may be a lot more linked to more traditionalist thought and perspectives than i realised

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Yes, I am back with more realisations that I had no clue about the greater music industry, especially kpop as a whole. In this post, I will only be sharing JYP and KPOP DEMON HUNTERS as examples. I cannot focus on everything, unfortunately. Recently there was a instagram video of JYP leading Bible Study seminars (YT sermon here). At first, this may seem like nothing much- but when considering that he rules over megahouses like Stray Kids and TWICE; it makes sense why a lot of kpop may be more old school in its expression of values and sentiments- this man has got a HUGE hand in the way kpop music is shaped- and hell I now understand more why people moan about CEOS of certain companies like HYBE, and why some situations reflect the more dominant traditional views. And with his role in politics, this guy can further influence and change the balance of what kinda kpop is released and what kinda kpop is cancelled. And yea I get it, a lot of countries are ruled by more traditionally-leaning CEOS and companies, so this isn't unique to South Korea nor KPOP alone, but this is a kpop forum. And then in regards to KPOP DEMON HUNTERS, people state that EJAE and Maggie Kang's (in regards to Maggie Kang, all I could find were suggestions on Instagram, so do not quote me on that) Christian values have influenced the storyline of this movie. Now, in regards to Christianity as a whole, it's okay as a faith but can vary in terms of which sects are more open to diversity and newer, more liberal perspectives on politics, media and daily life. EJAE even quotes, "That sounds like what an Idol is," EJAE, who has worked with several K-pop bands, said. "I was raised Christian and remembered it's a sin to idolize something. So, it was like a twist of 'I'll be your Idol.' It was kinda creepy." "Your Idol" was inspired by EXO's songs "MAMA" and "Obsession," she said." EXO's music isn't afraid to touch upon very dark topics so it's interesting to see her contrast the Saja Boys to EXO's music. It seems that the groups with concepts that touch upon darker topics are seen more as 'sin' than entertainment; and it's an interesting perspective for EJAE to share. When I consider this, I wonder- is this partly why ATEEZ is often so outwardly contrasted to the Saja Boys? A lot of ATEEZ songs are about breaking walls, overthrowing regimes, seeing through propoganda and facing the very darkness that some Christians would abhor thinking of; songs that completely dismantle the status quo. It makes me wonder if these people may not be a fan of the messages showcased in ATEEZ music, hence why the Saja Boys are portrayed as evil demons who take souls- though to me personally, ATEEZ music helps me face my own demons and reclaim my own self worth from society's messages and pressure to uphold the status quo, so I kind of view ATEEZ music from a completely opposite lens. However, I don't want to assume anything negative, as Maggie Kang herself visited ATEEZ, and this is not aimed as a critcism of either side, just a possible interpretation. I wonder how this links to the greater KPOP industry as a whole- I think I was very blind to how it faces basically identical issues in Hollywood as well. I guess I was very naive again, as it makes sense for more traditionally minded people to be at the top of any industry in many countries, not just South Korea. Of course music has incredible power in shaping societal views and perspectives, and these are just a few basic examples (I can't list everything here). It makes sense that traditional stuff is the tea in kpop, it's the tea in everything. I can't even watch a movie without something getting censored or ripped out because it doesn't fit the dominant ideologies of this era; but hey! At least things are more open than they once was in the past. submitted by /u/AngleFormal [link] [comments]

18. Kpop Demon Hunters tour idea: singers, rotating former/current idols covering soundtrack + bringing their own hits. Surprise guests/combinations like Blackpink + Ejae, etc

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

What do you think about a tour of KDH singers, together with different former/current idols covering the soundtrack? Plus bringing their own songs, like I Am. I’m thinking surprise guests, dates, combinations (Ejae + Blackpink, etc) could get people more excited. From the perspective of Kpop industry as a whole, or the Kpop business participants (Black Label/JYP through Twice), this is the most direct way to convert KDH fans to listeners. Actual Huntrix/Saja. You could just go maximum vocal and star power, but have some surprise around who will perform at what show. Because current idols will be busy, and former ones might not want to make a big work commitment. Have different big names just build off each other and the movie. It seems like it could get repetitive, but I’ve heard of artists doing the same song multiple times at a concert. To avoid repetition, you’d have guest idols do some of their own songs. That would extend the concert runtime beyond the soundtrack too. Ive’s I Am seems like a must. There seem to be references to DDU DU DDU DU in How It’s Done. Have some marketing around the big names, and maybe a lottery like element where you don’t know if one (member/group) of them will show up. Like say Rose commits for a specific date, but will also be at one surprise date. I mention her since she’s Black Label, English fluent, and I’d think it would be mutually beneficial. People are excited to hear Ejae. Have her sing some songs she wrote besides the soundtrack, like Armageddon or Psycho. Or join idol groups and sing one of their songs. Or have someone like Rose join the Huntrix songs, not just covering them solo. Have a male idol sing a female song—Stray Kids doing How It’s Done—or females sing Soda Pop, etc. Possibly a mix of stars and talent from different times, with different levels of recognition. Something to sell Kpop, its talent, and some earlier idols who paved the way. Not too many other songs to dilute the focus, but enough to reinforce the idea KDH was born out of a love of Kpop. Maybe well-known current or former idols or singers from Kpop like Ailee. Some lesser known strong vocalists. Or possibly even idols who can capably sing a song of their choosing. A simpler KDH business brainstorm than my last one Note: I wrote this almost two months ago but didn’t get to post. Maybe this idea will be obsolete soon, if they actually tour and it works without guests. That would be a short concert, where they'd have to repeat songs. Maybe instruct the crowd to go all out sing along when they repeat the song? That could be a unique experience where so many people know the lyrics. Or seeing they did three 8 hour rehearsals a week and Ejae’s warming up 3 hours in, if it’s hard on their vocal cords. But it sounded like she did so many takes and demos maybe she’s used to that kind of output. submitted by /u/hyeran_jainros_fc [link] [comments]
