15.775. A quick note about the generalization rule

  • 2 years ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The subreddit is mostly uncensored as long as people follow the rules. Generalizing statement about Korea, Korean society, etc or most other countries are not acceptable except under the following standards: The only claims that are acceptable when generalizing Korean society in this sub are those that bring up generalizable stastical claims by the standards of the international statistics institute. Not only do the vast majority of stastistics you can find on the internet about Korea not up to this minimum, basic standard but this requirement includes having ample sample size, blocking by relevant demographics and sometimes even double blind tests. So if you make a generalizing claim, your wording must be properly formatted and links to the relevant studies provided. In other words, the standard for making a generalization is very high in this sub. Not to mention the wording for your claim has to be properly made. Anyone who has taken a college level statistics class will know what I am talking about and we may even require you to provide the confidence level interval if it's relevant for your study. If you cannot meet these standards, I would just avoid doing it in general. submitted by /u/Kpop_Love_Forever [link] [comments]

2. Some kpop stans have been insane lately...

  • 19 minutes ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Yup, is said in the title, some stans have been acting quite insane lately. I'm mostly on X(twitter), and also in few other fandoms other than kpop, my favorite being F1. Few days ago, the official F1 account posted up photos with some ENHYPEN and SEVENTEEN members during the Singapore GP. Lots of kpop stans flooded the comments with a ridiculous fanwar about a certain person "paving the way" for idols in F1 Paddock...? While i don't care who paved what where, celebrities have always been going to F1 races since 1950, so this situation is cringe at best. Some even claims that the idols were bringing publicity to the sport...? While true to some extent, F1 is one of the most popular sport in the world, sitting near football. What bothers me is, they got some big names in the F1 fandoms involved too. I was very happy for those idols, as i used to be a kpop fan. But now, even the general public got involved, and it just showed the worst part of kpop stan culture as well as its toxicity. And then, there's this Soyeon collab plagiarism thing. I didn't listen nor do i know about the song with Soyeon, but i am a big fan of Yseult, the artist whose MV was plagiarized. Yseult is know to be a fiery person, who don't like being stepped on so she acted fastly and posted about Soyeon who "should apologize". But she changed the story, now addressing the whole production team. But kpop stans (mostly Soyeon defenders) are now asking Yseult to apologize???? And not in a respectful way, they are attacking Yseult on her appearance, her origin, her being black etc... Just blatant Misogynoir basically. This situation is ridiculous and people should know better. And while i'm not pointing at Soyeon personally, she also should know better when collaborating with other artists.. But yeah, these being at most 2 days apart was eye opening for me. I don't know what happened in the kpop fandom as i don't interact anymore with kpop, but what I'm seeing makes me worried for the future. Where did critical thinking go? Why is kpop so toxic nowadays? Small disclaimer : i am not a native English speaker, sorry if its a bit confusing! submitted by /u/Misstacos2-0 [link] [comments]

3. French singer, Yseult, calls out K-pop singers, Soyeon and R.tee, for copying her music video freame by frame: "The least you could do is have the decency to credit your source. To see it get copied like this is wild but real artistry speaks louder than imitation"

4. Jungkook's popularity on tiktok is insane.

  • 1 hour ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm a BTS casual fan. I have so much respect for them and recently I came across a instagram reel that mentioned how Jungkook is the most-hashtagged artist on TikTok and the third most-mentioned person overall -> right behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi. In fact, I searched it up and Jungkook has 38.9 million hashtags on tiktok. Jimin has 25 million, while V has 20.8. The other members are much lower. The highest blackpink member is Jennie, with 13.6 million hashtags. I already knew he was a popular idol on TikTok, but I had no idea how big his reach was. I was really surprised to see how much he dominates this platform! So since I brought this topic up, why do you guys think Jungkook is so popular on TikTok? submitted by /u/Sea-Republic8892 [link] [comments]

5. I don’t think Girlset, formely VCHA, can recover at this point.

  • 1 hour ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The KG lawsuit SEVERELY hauled their progress. When a member publicly accused the company of child labor, mistreatment, and abuse, it doesn’t matter how much JYP denies it, the harm is done. Western media picked it up, and that was their main audience. Even if some claims were exaggerated the trust is gone. Then there’s Kaylee’s departure after being on a “health hiatus” for over a year. Losing two members so early, one due to a lawsuit and another to health issues, destroys any stability the group had. Whether or not her situation related to KG’s claims, the optics are terrible. It makes the group look unstable and poorly managed. The rebrand to Girlset feels like a last effort to fix their image, but it’s clearly not working. Their new comeback had a smaller budget, weaker styling, and barely any promotion. For a JYP group, that’s a bad sign. You can tell when the company loses faith in a project because everything suddenly appears cheaper and quieter. It doesn’t matter that they’re under JYP. Many people assume that being with a “big 4” label guarantees success, but that’s simply true. Boy Story is a perfect example. JYP tried to push them as the next big Chinese boy group, and it completely flopped. They also had a scandal (which shouldn’t classified as a scandal but an underage member being victimized). The company has a history of experimental projects that don’t take off, and Girlset seems to be following that same path. They never had a clear identity. VCHA aimed to be a global project between the U.S and Korea which was apparent as they had a more bubblegum pop image in comparison to most western girl groups. But after the scandal, the international audience lost trust. They also never had had much appeal domestically. Now they’re stuck in the middle, not big in either market, with four members and no strong concept to rely on. Honestly, I think JYP will just move on to other projects. This was a massive loss financially and reputationally, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they shift their focus to something like L2K (Latin to Korea) or even a boy version of A2K, maybe called Boyset or something similar. That’s how JYP usually manages failed experiments; they quietly start working on the next one. I think if none of this happened, they could’ve established themselves into something like NiziU but with a western take. It would’ve been a unique concept that wasn’t already present in the west. submitted by /u/iambunnycat [link] [comments]

6. Who do you think will break Golden’s PAK streak?

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Golden is closing in on 1,500 PAKs (it’s at 1.48k as I’m writing this, so maybe just a day away from hitting 1.5k). KDH is really a phenomenon, and Golden has a strong hold on kcharts right now. Actually, it’s not just Golden, Soda Pop is right behind at #2, and other songs from the movie are also sustaining in the charts. How fascinating is this? We’ve had releases from BLACKPINK, IVE, aespa, Lim Young Woong, and even IU dropped a song recently (though not a full comeback), some releases did disrupt the PAK temporarily but Golden managed to reclaim its streak and is holding strong. Who do you think will truly break this streak, not just overtake it momentarily? submitted by /u/Letzz_get_it [link] [comments]

10. Some “Unpopular” opinions and my thoughts on them

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

“Twice should have gotten the popularity that Blackpink has” - “Comparing all the girls that are killing it” - Taylor Swift “Blackpink should just disband” - I see this from non-blinks and as a non-blink myself, if you don’t even like them, why are you so pressed about what they’re doing? I’m not a fan either, but I don’t make hating on them my personality. “Katseye is/is not k-pop” - Katseye does not sing in Korean, they aren’t based in Korea and they aren’t even marketed to Korea. But they are still under a Korean company, they were formed like a k-pop group, they have pcs lightsticks etc, therefore they’re K-pop ADJACENT. I really don’t think it is that hard to understand. “Cortis fans think that they’re fresh and new but they just reheat Travis Scott and Cardi’s nachos ” - I don’t even stan Cortis but I have genuinely seen this take more times than people calling them “unique” or “fresh”. *The Stray kids hate in general - If you don’t like them then just don’t talk about them… “Itzy fell off” - Their newer comebacks aren’t as successful as their previous ones, but who cares if you like their music then listen to it. Honestly these takes are so over done and I am beyond tired of seeing them (especially the blackpink ones) submitted by /u/Local-Hair-635 [link] [comments]

11. Have you ever met an akgae in real life?

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

As we all know, akgaes are very toxic groups of people. But ive always wondered how these people are in real life. And if they say the gross things they do online. I cant imagine akgaes are happy and normal people. Especially with the amount of delusion and gross behavior I've seen from them. Ive heard plenty of stories about meeting koreaboos, sasaengs, shippers and antis but no akgaes. And by akgaes, I mean the toxic people that hate all the members except the one they stan and believe they're being mistreated. So yeah, share your story if you have any, even if its a positive interaction with a normal solo stan (if they exist). Can be for any idol since they all move the same anyway. submitted by /u/Dull_Ad_2795 [link] [comments]

13. The obsession of hating/wanting others to hate on Katseye and Cortis

  • 3 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I broke it down for each group Katseye: Ok I’m actually getting real sick of seeing unnecessary hate, comparing, and rage baiting for katseye. It’s getting old, tired and giving jobless. No matter how many times eyekons and other fans do their best to not bring them up in kpop spaces or conversations..there’s also that one person who just ITCHES to bring them knowing that there are miserable kpop stans with giant insecurities that will jump on them at any given moment and it’s like yall have no common sense or can’t read the room to just not bring them up. Especially in those dumb ass “kpop opinion” post. I’m bringing them up now in a kpop space because I need answers from yall, especially those who dislike katseye. Now with XG, another global group, having their comeback, here’s goes the “Xg hAs BeTtEr MuSic ThAn KatSeYe” “Xg ShOulD Be aS BiG As KatsEye” like are we deadass?? There’s obvious reasons, but that isn’t KATSEYE’s fault and their name shouldn’t be within that conversation since they aren’t a part of the equation as to why xg isn’t as big as they should be. Why can’t we let two global groups with two different approaches, different concepts, different music styles, and based in two different countries where all of the members are young, beautiful and talented af coexist and be great together? Cortis: I’m sorry but the hate Cortis gets for no reason is a prime example of “the hate is forced” because HUH??? It fr be like a fan praised them for actually working with black creators and learning from them and be great at the craft in a post and here yall go with the negativity “CorTis isNt As FresH and OrgAniC aNd ThEyre BIg CoMpaNy PrIvIledgeD” like are we serious? Then I saw someone on twitter say that cortis deserve to win rookie group of the year and it’s like how bitter can you be to say this? Even with artists I don’t care for, I’ll never say shit like this and when if I thought it, why would I let the world know how deranged I am? It’s very obvious how hard working the boys are and how online they are and they’re all still young. Moral of the damn story, I don’t see the appeal to hop on the trend to hate on hybe groups that just debuted, yall give no type of grace to them but expect everyone to give grace to your full grown faves who know what they’re doing……anyways I digress. submitted by /u/Oneandonly_potato [link] [comments]

17. Fully stanning and probably fangirling over idol younger than me

  • reddit.com language

I know this topic probably was talked about but i just want to see if its really okey since i am really hesistant. So i know its dumb but i am 18 and female and recently the new girl group catched my eye Hearts2hearts and i really love them but its first time since i am older then 4 members and my favourite is ian which i am a bit more than 2 years older. I dont know if this is okey but i want to bias her and by that i mean also collecting her merch. I am in weird position bc usually i fangirl over kpop idols not in sexual way but still like admiring and being really invested so i am thinking if this is really a problem and if she would be weirded out about it (not like we will ever even meet lol) but just a thought that keeps me hesistant too fully stan what do you think? submitted by /u/Yuzuu0 [link] [comments]
