Hybe just released info about their next project group, which is going to be another global girl group. Any post about this so far has been flooded with confused, annoyed, and hateful comments by people. I get those sentiments, but I do question why it's mainly Kpop fans (judging by the profile pictures at least) that are so upset about this, when this is literally just how fastpaced the kpop market moves. Kpop companies have always been known for putting out new groups like factories and at quick pace, so why are they so surprised that Hybe is taking the very logical route of cashing in on their attempt at a global girl group, which is dominating social media right now. Adding to this, I don't know why people are surprised that members from the Popstar academy are joining this group. Do people forget just how common it is for idols to still debut in other groups after their first attempt of joining didn't work out? Chaeryoung, Chaeyeon, Somi and Natty all participated in Sixteen in their hopes of joining Twice, yet still managed to debut in hugely popular groups themselves after this. Yunjin got 26th place on produce 48 and still later managed to become part of a hugely succesful group. Half of the members from &team participated in I-land... A lot of the times, becoming part of a lineup isn't a showcase of who is the most talented, just who is most liked by the public, whose the most attractive (sad but undeniable reality), and who fits into the group the most. Plus how the movie helped Ejae discover herself: The melody for Golden came to me incredibly quickly, and through writing it, I actually discovered my vocal range. I’m both terrified and proud of the A5 I hit in that song, it was a self-discovering moment for me You probably heard about how the directors went with Ejae as Rumi, based on demos she submitted as strictly as a songwriter. Something crazy I saw is that Ejae really didn’t think of herself as a singer. She still has in her IG bio, “Vocal Producer/arranger.” Ian Eisendrath, executive music producer for KDH: In the past, she has not self-identified as a singer. And I just kept saying, "EJAE, your voice is unlike anything I’ve ever heard before.” It’s amazing luck they realized how good she was, then stuck with and helped develop her. It reminds me of some fashion or jewelry designers that a brand’s executives believe in. Their potential is recognized, and they get the time to grow even if their early work doesn't seem obviously special. Unpopular opinion, as a person who still listens to the 20ish njz songs existing and misses the group, i think they had many options to solve or lessen their problems without fully quitting art. First of all, about the most popular ILLIT copied NJZ argument, everything they claimed about being similar would be solved if they kept doing their concepts and music without any shade to other gg's. They obviously dominated the field at that time so, no similarity with njz would work for any other group because they already were huge at what they were doing. Eventually because both options (njz and whoever copies them) would be available on the K-media to stan, ppl would just select the o.g one. Secondly i think that it's never too late to get rid of "the mhj effect" for these girls. Woman got fired, got into ton of lawsuits, won all of the ones about herself and took both hybe's and njz's future possible wins from them. I think the main reason why the girls just wanted to do this with her is they truely trust her creative mind but in reality, even if she had built that career for them they didn't need her after the fame. Everyone in those big label companies can make a gigantic group maintain their fame. Plus, charts dependent on the music produced and that has nothing to do with neither the ceo nor the idols in most kpop groups. Imo, even if they were to reframe the narrative now—stating, "After a year of reflection, we were also victims in this situation; we're sorry"—it could help them reset. Finally, a company with HYBE's immense power and infrastructure could easily relaunch NewJeans' career within two years. A strategic rollout featuring just a couple of late-night show appearances in the US and a single tour would be enough to rebuild momentum. Suddenly, they'd be right back in the spotlight, collaborating with labelmates like BTS or SEVENTEEN, and competing at the top level again alongside groups like BLACKPINK.
