893. Why is it okay for black people to say the N word?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

As we all know, whenever a kpop idol or a white person say the N word they get a ton of backlash (which is deserved) but whenever it's a black person everyone is okay with it? Like why are people okay with that? As far as I know, the N word is used to insult black people so why is it okay for a black person to use it when they are literally insulting themselves and other black people? Like I think everyone should get backlash for saying the N word, even black people because it is an insult submitted by /u/straykifsontop [link] [comments]

895. πŸ’Ž Hidden Gem of the Week: Chanmin (μ°¬λ―Ό) πŸ’Ž

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

One of my favorite things about diving deeper into K-pop is finding artists who quietly create masterpieces outside the mainstream spotlight. This week’s hidden gem is Chanmin, a young singer-songwriter and self-producer who’s been carving his own path since his 2022 debut. What makes Chanmin stand out is how much of his music he crafts himself, writing, composing, arranging, and even mixing. His debut album THEBLUETAPE was entirely self-produced, and since then he’s released the EP CINEMA (2024) and, just recently, the pre-release single β€œParangseong (Sound of Waves)” in July 2025. https://open.spotify.com/artist/1O1BXOtl5jWeZJIkSwNMBi?si=c1-6I5exSg6twmUI5JYuKQ β€œParangseong” is a great entry point, it feels both gentle and powerful, like a tide slowly pulling you in. His sound is emotive and layered, never flashy but always sincere, and it really highlights how indie-minded artists within K-pop can offer something unique and refreshing. Despite his artistry, he’s still flying under the radar, around 38k monthly listeners and a few solo concerts under his belt so it feels like the perfect time to share him as a hidden gem before more people catch on. πŸ‘‰ Have you heard Chanmin’s music before? What do you think of β€œParangseong”? πŸ‘‰ More broadly, who’s another underrated solo artist you’d consider a hidden gem right now? submitted by /u/Positive_Glass_442 [link] [comments]

901. β€œWas ablume ever really independent? MASSIVE ENC might just be a front for The Givers/ASI”

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

MASSIVE ENC appears not to have operated as a fully independent subsidiary. Evidence suggests that ablume members have been managed by The Givers/ASI from the very beginning, despite MASSIVE ENC being presented as a separate company under NS ENM. While NS ENM owns 87% of MASSIVE ENC, the remaining 13% came from Pacemaker Entertainment, a company tied to NS ENM CEO Ko Byungcheol. This indicates that the acquisition may have been more about creating investor value and the appearance of independence than establishing a genuinely separate management. ASI plays a central role: he is credited as Executive Producer, the ablume members continue to use his studio for filming, and they work with some of the same staff who were involved with the original FIFTY FIFTY. This suggests that MASSIVE ENC may function mainly as a front company, while the actual management and creative decisions are controlled by ASI and The Givers. Historically, ASI has used similar strategies β€” operating groups under different company names to maintain control while avoiding direct scrutiny. The concern is that this pattern could repeat, putting ablume members in a potentially risky situation where they are controlled by someone with a controversial history, even if the public sees them as being under a new, independent label. In short, what appears to be a "new beginning" for ablume under MASSIVE ENC is in fact a continuation of ASI's control masked by corporate restructuring. Fans should investigate how operations are actually carried out behind the scenes. Because this was not Ahn sun gil (CEO of the givers)'s first idol smuggling, nor will it be the last. Discussion questions:πŸ€” Were the ablume members aware they’ve been managed by ASI all along? Why do fans continue to support ASI despite his controversial past? submitted by /u/GooseSignificant8293 [link] [comments]

┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Hey everyone, I hope you all had a great week. My first week back from Vacation was a good one, as the artists delivered some excellent tunes that kept popping up on my playlist like crazy. It didn’t take me long to find my favorite release of the week, which I’m excited to share with you all. Later in the month, I will be sharing what took over my summer, so look out for that. Now let’s jump into the music and see what the artist delivered. ┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛ https://preview.redd.it/vqjj6u9r4djf1.jpg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=54553636eef4b94bd1c3fcc2fc593ff5ccab65ee Best of the Week: August 10th μ‹œμž‘μ˜ 아이 ❍ - Park Da Hye & Maktub Maktub teams up with Park Da Hye for a new version of one of his tracks, one that I’ve been listening to like crazy. The vocals from Park Da Hye are fantastic as they are packed with emotion and hope. I discovered Park Da Hye on YouTube while searching for a K-drama OST, and since then, she has become one of my favorite vocalists. The instrumental wraps around the singer’s sweet voice that keeps pulling me back to this powerful tune. I love the final hook where the singer hits some killer notes that blow me away with each listen. If you haven't checked out Park Da Hye, you should, as she has a beautiful voice that will make you a fan. https://preview.redd.it/tfivyjd55djf1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1aa1da9cd6412a4e4dc0c461d01c07d67e81a9a β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β˜“ ━━━━━━━ Other Korean Releases of the Week: August 11th Good For U - BoA BoA is back with a Japanese song after releasing a new Korean album last week. The track goes for this thumping vibe that fits the smooth vocals from the singer. The vibe has a funky vibe that pulled me back a few times this week. The hook is a bit repetitive with the lyrics, but it still has a catchy enough vibe that has been getting stuck in my head this week. I’m not sure this is my overall favorite Japanese song from the singer, but it still fits perfectly with her discography. I noticed this year that I’ve been in a big BoA mood, re-listening to all her music https://preview.redd.it/hoiq4snf5djf1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=a18647d9f1b443fec910d4df248266f1dda532f6 .β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β˜“ ━━━━━━━ Topping - Illit illit is back with their second Japanese track, one that fits the group perfectly. Synth opens up the song with a thumping vibe that blends wonderfully with the group's smooth vocals. The hook is catchy, just like the rest of the group's discography. I have found myself listening to this tune a couple of times this week as it’s been getting stuck in my head like crazy. I find that Illit keeps impressing me with all the releases they have been putting out since their debut. I’m glad the group is putting out Japanese music cause they fit perfectly in that world. https://preview.redd.it/lhvlnfdo5djf1.jpg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=371e8c57a37870c3dbe70f6e776c69b25fed5bc1 β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β˜“ ━━━━━━━ Lastfm Weekly Roundup (August 8th - August 14th) Artist: Twice https://preview.redd.it/od1bil0v5djf1.jpg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ae91f0c85ca4598473ec72590414f850b58747a β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β˜“ ━━━━━━━ Album: Metal Forth - Babymetal https://preview.redd.it/308l6jl16djf1.jpg?width=696&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ef05bba12fe7321a2423b556658a5dbd180d727 β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β˜“ ━━━━━━━ Song: Golden - Huntr/X https://preview.redd.it/zitttif86djf1.jpg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f365418703f7746ad8fd3734bd3bf752b94b5d8 submitted by /u/Maltifandom23 [link] [comments]

911. The longevity of Kpop groups and their relevance is at an all time low

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

This isn't just a kpop thing, but since Kpop companies rely SO much on keeping up with what's viral and trendy at the moment, they often switch up a groups aesthetic every other comeback, making it hard for people who aren't fans to distinguish them as artists, and making them very replaceble once they're not 'the next big thing' anymore. It isn't a case of 'which groups fell victim to this phenomenon' rather 'which groups haven't?' because unless the groups have a very strong solid fanbase already, like Twice, BTS, Stray Kids... It's just a matter of time before they fade into irrelevance. Think of Itzy for example, they were monster rookies, and on top for 2 years straight, then they made one 'bad' song, and they haven't been able to get even close to the success of their previous hits. People keep saying that the company is doing them wrong with promotions, but the truth is that people just aren't interested anymore. Unless they're able to release a song that is perfectly in balance with current trends or the other way around, is something new that catches people's attention, the general public doesn't care. Itzy is to me also a reminder that even the big 3 company groups aren't immune to it. Trends die so quickly these days. One day people loved the y2k style coming back, not even a year later people were suddenly tired of it, now we've gone all the way to techno being incorperated into kpop as the next trend. It just all moves so quickly. Kpop fans keep complaining that companies debut too much groups or too fast, but they're just aware of this phenomenon. They know that people want something new, and are just buying into this. That doesn't mean that this isn't a huge problem though. With how fastpaced everything is, it doesn't seem far fetched that these idols, often not even of adult age yet, won't have long lasting careers before being left behind by their companies because they're focusing on their other groups. submitted by /u/Due_Improvement_5699 [link] [comments]
