1.182. Who are the “stan attractors” in your favorite group and who was your entry point?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Every kpop group seems to have at least one member who’s the “stan attractor”, the one who makes non fans stop and go “okay… who is THAT?” Sometimes they’re the visual, the main dancer, or just someone with a really magnetic stage presence or unique personality. They’re not always the one you end up biasing longterm, but they often open the door for new fans. So I’m curious, in your favorite group: who do you think are the “stan attractors” for the general public and why? who was your first hook into the group, and did you end up stanning them or someone else? submitted by /u/ResponsibleUsual7536 [link] [comments]

1.185. What songs, mv, dance, stage performances make you crush ?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

You know this feeling, you see a group of attractive idols doing a sweet performance with a lovely song, you got the butterfly in your stomach... which on of these songs give you this effect? Personally, I really feel this when I watch bangbang with Dalshabet ❤️ 1) The song is cute and lovely 2) Dalshabet members are really like "the gorgeous girl's next door" 3) Their cowgirl style (a little in the mv but more obvious in the stage performances) it's like... all these pretty ladies in their respective attractive cowgirl outfit are just so cute !! 4) The way they smile, really beautiful!! 5) Most important, this meaning at the beginning of the mv. A girl knowing that a boy crush for her, thinking he's to slow to approach her, so she decides to make the first move, I LOVE how the gun shot symbolise the girl saying her feelings to a guy, like a gunshot on the roof, you'll get shocked, like the other girl are shocked in the mv but slowly stand again getting more and more confident for the bank heist until they get happy and totally into it, the same way a guy would be shy after his crush admit her feelings, but the guy would slowly get more confident until he feels comfortable and happy with the girl, I find it ao cute !! submitted by /u/Cestlavieenrose999 [link] [comments]

1.186. What's a phrase you see that's just so kpop stan

Sorta in the same cursed bracket of that tumblr fandom circa 2012-2016 era where people were saying shit like "potterheads grab your wands!!!!", what's one of those weird hyperspecific phrases that's just so kpop stan? Like there's typical celebrity glazing and defending, but something super specific is definitely the "[member] would burn you alive to keep [other member op was probably dunking on] warm" reply. This is not to be over derogatory abt it or anything but it's interesting what sorta vernacular comes out of microcommunities like this. It's occurring to me in real time I could just scroll through kpoopheads for these but I'd rather know what everyone's favorite is. submitted by /u/SomeRaceHorseName [link] [comments]

1.187. Would ITZY Queens have been even more popular? 🤔

I love the Queens (So much that I have an ITZY tattoo). To me, best dancers in the business other than Twice, amazing vocals and visuals. Top all rounders for sure. LEGENDARY debut and comedy gold. But, I can't help to think that they would be even bigger if not for COVID. Not saying COVID didn't hurt some other idols, but ITZY was right then. What do you guys think? 💕 submitted by /u/JaySwizzle1984 [link] [comments]

Blackpink “Boombayah”, “Ice Cream”, “How You Like That”, “Kill this Love” Soshi “Mr. Taxi”, “Lionheart”, “Oh” Le Sserafim “Crazy”, “Antifragile” Big Bang “Bang Bang Bang” Super Junior “Sorry Sorry” 2NE1 “I Am The Best” Newjeans “Super Shy” Illit “Magnetic” Rose “Apt” Jennie “Like Jennie” Huntrix “Golden” (these two were in the halftime dance show) And some others I didn’t recognize. I only got there about 10 minutes before kickoff unfortunately so there were probably more beforehand. They definitely had a classics appreciator on the staff though, was nice they didn’t just pull from the latest hits. The rest of the match atmosphere was kind of a disappointment though, I was hoping there’d be a dance zone or mini games like they sometimes have, or even a kpop fan meetup, but nothing like that. Still a nice experience though. submitted by /u/dettret [link] [comments]

1.192. Can’t imagine an ENHYPEN tour without the Philippines… I’ve noticed fans saying it might happen?

  • reddit.com language

Filo engenes or any filo/non fans who might know, as a nosy person who lurks in every community even if I’m not part of it, i’ve been seeing quite a few posts in this site and elsewhere saying the philippines might not be part of enhypen’s next world tour and i’m genuinely wondering why there are thoughts like that. Did the last show there sell poorly or is there another reason people are thinking this? the last show seemed packed from what i saw or was that just the camera angle? I’ve always assumed a ph stop was guaranteed whether they’re reducing or adding stops because the fandom there is just so big and passionate (correct me if i’m wrong). The country has also been included since the very beginning so it would be a bummer if it’s skipped especially since it’s one of the stops i always look forward to for the fan projects, interactions, and fancams. I also feel like the members have an emotional attachment to that moment when filo engenes randomly sang shout out during manila stop for the manifesto tour so it’s hard to imagine an enhypen world tour without a ph stop 🤔 submitted by /u/Iettertomyself [link] [comments]

1.197. I watched Produce 101 Season 1 so you don't have to (Episodes 1-2)

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I notice that the first season of Produce 101 rarely gets that much attention in international spaces. I decided to document my thoughts on PD101 for entertainment purposes. This is also the first survival show I've watched in length. Warning: I am a massive hater Episode 1 The episode starts off with the classic "101 girls, 1 dream, who will debut?!??!" premise. The host, Jang Keunsuk, heavily emphasizes that the audience will be the show's producers. I find this extremely hilarious as we all know what happened to the Produce franchise after the first two seasons. Anyway, we got a JYP plastic pants jumpscare. Clearly the show's editors were proto-r/kpoopheads users. Proof for the skeptical For people who are unaware, the trainees introduce themselves by walking into this room with 101 seats, all numbered. At the very top is this giant #1 throne. Who chooses to sit on in it? None other than Heo Chanmi, who I'm convinced has a spiritual connection to Fu Yaning. Mnet's editing is super obvious. All the trainees are shown remaking how scary she is and how insane it is that she's already debuted. While not as ambitious as Chanmi, the Jellyfish Entertainment trainees chose to sit in the top 11 zone. Also, everyone's jaws collectively dropped as soon as they saw Somi was representing JYP Entertainment. After that, we got to see some of the auditions. First were the Starship Entertainment trainees. I'm absolutely in love with Yoo Yeonjung's voice. I can't believe she got just a B! It's shocking to see contestants receive comparatively low grades for performances that would be seen as extraordinary today. Then was Kim Sohye. To be honest, I felt bad for her. She clearly didn't want to be on the show, but man, what the hell was that performance. Sohye's performance was followed by another mid one. The DIA girls audition was pretty underwhelming, in my opinion. I do wish Dani debuted in T-ARA instead of Hwayoung though (fuck that bitch). The best audition in this episode was from Jellyfish Entertainment. Kim Sejeong and Kang Mina specifically caught my eye. Sejeong is such an amazing singer and Mina's dance is so eye catching. Another performance I liked was from Jeon Soyeon. Without the benefit of knowing about I-DLE's massive success, I would have voted for her back in the day. Bae Yunjeong, also known as the human incarnation of Satan, gave the DSP trainees a D grade for not shaking ass. Um, weird. I would've gave them a C personally. Park Hayi, the show's oldest contestant at 28, was basically called a hag by the host. At least the mentors all roasted the shit out of him. Even though I sympathize with her for facing ageism, I can't deny her singing was really bad. Next was the creme de la creme of flop performances: Yoon Seohyung's IU cover. I'm convinced it was a publicity stunt because I can't believe anyone would have the confidence to sing that song as their audition. This is also the moment of the show that I realized the PD101 set looks like the backrooms, like one of SM Entertainment's old box MV sets from hell. Thankfully, the remaining few auditions were good. I can't deny that Heo Chanmi is skilled, but who told her to turn Don't Stop The Music into a ballad? The Pledis trainees went off. As for Somi, I thought her performance was B quality. Her voice has this bright poppy quality that I like, but I don't think she performed to her full potential. The trainee who I think was done the most dirty was Kim Juna. Her voice is really, really good, but she only got a C because she couldn't dance on the spot. Personally, I don't give a shit if an idol is bad at something if they're extremely talented in another area. Just stick her in the back of all choreography and you'll be fine. Episode 2 First voting results! Ham Yeji going "wtf, I'm in 101th place" was really funny. Here, we got to see the remaining auditions. To be honest, I don't think this batch was as notable as the ones from the previous episode. I liked Han Hyeri's team even though the judges were hating. I found them super adorable. Choi Yoojung briefly mentioned learning sex ed, which really makes me remember this show is from 2016. I don't think today's trainees are even old enough to know how babies are made. I'm guessing the producers didn't know how else to reach the one hour mark, so we got another succession of bad auditions. I actually wasn't a fan of the 24 Hours performance, although Chungha saved it with her insane freestyle. I honestly thought she practiced it beforehand. Risa Ariyoshi's performance was a bit hilarious. They hyped up her jaw-dropping, earth-shattering visuals only for Bae Yunjeong to remark that she has the skill of an elementary schooler. After the auditions were over, the mentors sorted the girls into different letter grades. A for the best trainees, F for the worst, and so on. In 3 days, the girls would all have to perform "Pick Me," simultaneously the worst and the best Produce song. Yes, it's annoying as fuck and deserves to be in the CIA's special interrogation Spotify playlist, but the EDM beat drop is admittedly sick as fuck. The purpose of the letter grades was to sort the girls into training groups. To be honest, the training really annoyed me. I barely got to see the mentors give the girls actual vocal and dance lessons. There was a lot of emphasis on 'hard work' and very little on technique. I thought this was a missed opportunity and really shows what's wrong with the trainee system. It's like they value the appearance of perfection and grinding a ton without valuing the journey there. The trainees got to call their parents for the first time. I admit I felt a bit sad for the girls. Also, wow. The show pushed Sohye to an insane extent, which I thought was a disservice to the trainees without much screentime. One thing I liked was how the trainees appeared to be nice to each other despite the psychological struggles they faced. I honestly expected some anger from the trainees toward the ones who were falling behind. Anyway, at least they're all free from Produce hell now. Overall thoughts Just to get the negatives out the way, fuck the rigging (although this season was considerably less rigged than the later two). I also disliked the training system as you can tell. That said, I will definitely be tuning in for more Produce 101. I admit the editing makes it super addicting. If you asked me to vote at this point, these would be the trainees (not conclusive) that I would pick: Kim Chungha, Jeon Somi, Jeon Soyeon, Kim Nayoung, Kang Mina, Yoo Yeonjung, Kim Sejeong, Kim Juna, Han Hyeri submitted by /u/Aurelian369 [link] [comments]

1.198. Katseye is surprisingly popular. Googled more than Blackpink last week in US. Katseye was costly, but Bloomberg says it’s paying off. Even their Tiktok training is working

I used KIOF (2023) and Babymonster (2024) for comparison as newer groups. I heard about Katseye’s breakout on Bloomberg, Gnarly and Gabriela are taking off. I had no idea they were getting that big until checking Google trends. That’s when I realized Bang PD was validated. I was still thinking he’s so right about big trends in Kpop, but wrong on how to react. He called the peak of Kpop and the need to reduce reliance on superfans and grow casual fans. This last part still isn’t really happening in Kpop because of declining music revenue. The fear is whether superfans pockets are deep enough if the economy weakens. It cost a lot, taking Hybe’s profit below JYP’s. it took a while, but it’s finally paying off. This explains why Hybe and Geffen are working together again on a Japanese group. I noticed how well trained Katseye is for Tiktok. That’s working for them too: Bloomberg data puts them at 3rd for new Tiktok follows among the top 50 artists this month, with 1.4m new followers in previous 30 days. There’s a lot of obviously planned and even choreographed videos. Viewers like the a capella singing Katseye sometimes posts too, tying it all back to their core role as musicians, and showing off their talent. I wish my fav Hyeran had this kind of opportunity and camera quality during Brave Girls, to show off things like her popping talent. I get the idea to diversify from BTS, but I wonder about the Ithaca and Quality Control acquisitions. submitted by /u/hyeran_jainros_fc [link] [comments]

1.200. Underrated hidden gems you just came across

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I don't know how or when I discovered this song, but I discovered this song a few years ago, just like that. Dahye - Bad Blood And it's just so good? The instrumental is amazing and the performance? She's such a good performer and vocalist. I leaned that she was a former BESTIE member, and while I never followed the group, her song just came up on my recommended and it was not a disappointment. Another song that I think is an underrated great song is this one. Kang Xiwon - Passionate Love It has no MV unfortunately, but she's a great performer too and this song is catchy as hell. Unfortunately, Kang Xiwon hasn't released music since 2019, but I'm still obsessed with this song. submitted by /u/Moonbunny120 [link] [comments]
