The subreddit is mostly uncensored as long as people follow the rules. Generalizing statement about Korea, Korean society, etc or most other countries are not acceptable except under the following standards: The only claims that are acceptable when generalizing Korean society in this sub are those that bring up generalizable stastical claims by the standards of the international statistics institute. Not only do the vast majority of stastistics you can find on the internet about Korea not up to this minimum, basic standard but this requirement includes having ample sample size, blocking by relevant demographics and sometimes even double blind tests. So if you make a generalizing claim, your wording must be properly formatted and links to the relevant studies provided. In other words, the standard for making a generalization is very high in this sub. Not to mention the wording for your claim has to be properly made. Anyone who has taken a college level statistics class will know what I am talking about and we may even require you to provide the confidence level interval if it's relevant for your study. If you cannot meet these standards, I would just avoid doing it in general. submitted by /u/Kpop_Love_Forever [link] [comments]
I can sing decently, but cannot dance. I can speak korean casually, but am not fluent. I think I am pretty good looking and fit a lot of korean standards. Is it too late for me to audition and become one? submitted by /u/Specialist-Sector-17 [link] [comments]

I’ve been reading about Steve Yoo (Yoo Seung-jun) and how he used to be massive in the 90s (like one of the biggest stars in Korea). I understand that he avoided military service by giving up Korean citizenship, and that’s obviously a very sensitive issue in Korea… but I’m trying to understand why the hatred toward him is still so intense after all these years. It's been like what, over 20 years? From what I’ve seen, there have been quite a few celebrities who either didn’t serve or had exemptions, including some with full Korean citizenship. There are also gyopo idols and celebrities who legally don’t have to enlist. Yet Steve Yoo seems to be treated like the ultimate traitor, to the point where he’s basically banned for life. I am not defending what he did just to clarify...I just want to understand why his situation is seen as so unforgivable compared to others who also never served. If anyone can explain the cultural context or why people still feel so strongly about him, I’d appreciate it. submitted by /u/savingrace0262 [link] [comments]

This is a quick part two as the first post was getting pretty big and long as it was, and as someone who uses reddit mostly on their computer, I was worried for mobile users lol. But as I was explaining in the first half of this which you can read here [I listened to NCT and their solo comebacks for the first time in years]. I'm not sure if its the same for others, but for me, I've kinda always thought that when you leave a fandom you tend to step away from the group overall but I don't think we as kpop fans mention it enough that you can go back to listening to that group or supporting from the sidelines and that's completely okay. For me, I actually enjoyed a lot more of NCT Wish's (the latest youngest group of NCT), music a lot more then I thought I would. 'Color', 'Surf', 'Pop Pop' and 'Steady' are really good songs overall, I enjoyed this stage of 'Surf'. I thought they suited the outfits so well and I loved that stage. For NCT 127, Sticker was... well Sticker and I didn't listen to the full song. But overall, I did like Lemonade, Breakfast and the Rainy Night far more. While Sunny Road was a good song I think I like Be There for Me and Colors far more. But I totally understand why Fact Check went viral within the fandom, its a very catchy song with cool visuals, I enjoyed the dance practice for it as well!. For Be There for Me, I really loved the Christmas Stage Special Video (NCT127) did for Christmas with Inkigayo, while the year end ver stage video had the cutest outfits and the members just did really well. NCT Dream. Even if the song/lyrics weren't my favourite thing in the world, I can give credit where its due, the overall visuals and aesthetics of 'Smoothie' were really really cool in my opinion. From the dance practices to this music stage with music bank, I really enjoyed it overall. I also enjoyed the songs, 'Skateboard', 'Blue Wave', 'SOS' from their 3rd album and 'When I'm with you', 'Best of Me', 'YOU' and 'Heavenly' from their dreamscape album. (I also liked the concept/song for Rains in Heaven and Moonlight singles that they released in 2024). WayV. Ever since the beginning, WayV has easily been one of the units I've supported the most, I just loved the overall vibe from the members and their voices. So far, I have listened to the Highest Album where I enjoyed 'Deep Ocean', 'Go Higher' and 'What a Good Time'. I am hoping to listen to High Five Single, Big Bands (7th mini album) and FREQUENCY here soon. submitted by /u/Responsible-Box2876 [link] [comments]
To say the least I was a di e hard fan of this group from 2017 up until 2020 (where the last 'comeback' I participated in (from streaming, promoting it, station head parties etc) up until Resonance, and just before NCT Dream entered he Hot Sauce era in 2021 and haven't been active in the fandom space since then, but even if that's the case I still adored the members a lot (especially Jeno, Doyoung, Taeyong and Jisung for example). While I was a fan of WayV until just before the end of 2022 (December I believe). But I have kinda watched from the sidelines but not actively listening. Aside from the various management issues and a certain* member 'leaving' and of course improper care from the company surrounding NCT as a whole, I've slowly started to listen to their songs and comebacks for the first time since then, and I had some things I wanted to say, including giving some credit to some of my favourite performances. AWSAZ (It's Awkward but It's Okay) series. Has been really interesting to watch, especially when I don't know the new members to well, (especially the members of NCT Wish), even if it is awkward, the series is still enjoyable enough you can get a laugh out of it or to. Ever since I was a fan of them, it was very clear even during Black on Black era, that the members don't know each other, let alone that well in one on one situations (despite what we might wanted to believe). So this series is very refreshing from that point of view. Johnny's Communication Center (JCC). Its a series of vlogs directed/ by Johnny who tries several things, and to my surprise it is actually still on going and really beloved by fans, so that's really nice and cool to see. I would never thought, Johnny would be the type of person to get a tattoo, so finding that out was super cool (same with Ten's and Taeyong's). Comebacks and Solo Debuts. Haechan. He debuted with his first full album 'TASTE', he has a really unique voice and I've always enjoyed his vocals since first finding NCT 127 back then. Even if you don't recognize his name, I'm sure once you hear his vocals, you would recognize it pretty much instantly. I really liked CRZY, Camera Lights and Grey Rain. DoYoung. DoYoung debuted with the trio unit DoJaeJung in April before making his solo debut in my birthday month (April) back in 2024. Obvs I have some bias towards DoYoung, but I loved his debut and comeback far more then I thought I would, especially these performances. From little wave, Memory, Little Light and his song called 'Warmth'. Taeyong. Tbh I'm not sure how I feel about the track, 'Shalala', the track is catchy, but I just don't know how to feel about the mv and the choice of story line for it. Its kinda how I felt about 'Zoo' (the unit stage/song), like its not the worst thing but will take time to grow on me so to say. But I will say, Moon Tour and Ruby are such beautiful songs, while tracks like Gwando, Ups & Downs, reminded me of when he posted his songs on SoundCloud, a really nice vibe, and easy to sing a long to/ vibe to kind of songs. TEN. Meanwhile I really and truly believe, that TEN went above and beyond for his solo debut and he crushed it, from the performance videos, to the promotions for 'Nightwalker', it was such a well rounded album. Lie with you and Dangerous are still stuck in my head. submitted by /u/Responsible-Box2876 [link] [comments]

I know people say Koreans are more aware of what EDS are, since the rise of Korean Mukbangs on YouTube there are more documentaries about Binge Eating, Anrexia, and etc. But being Thin and considerably "Pretty" is important for East Asia. SK has a emphasis on "Dying" for Beauty, where 16y olds are being dragged to PS clinicals because their parents constantly bullies them. Or they simply do some crazy diets = Pure Starvation. So with that being said, I don't think half of these idols who claims to be "Healthy" knows what actually a healthy person is. At least those who are still working/touring. They dance daily for hours, eating 1 simple meal a day or nothing at all, because not only is important to lose weight either way your company will fire you but it's almost mandatory to being skinny because part of your life/work is about that. Like when HWASA start to create this "Curvilicious Body" trend where bodies like her were becoming more "acceptable" but the body in question most of the time was a contribution of Starving and Binge eating. APink Bomi also talked about this year's ago. Bomi would often starve in tours where she had to dance in practices and performs while drinking like protein shakes. And when she tried to make a Mukbang Channel eating healthy, slowly everything became to crash and she started binging again. Now idols are not "allowed" to talk about their actual diets as they were a few years ago, because now people are realizing that is pure ANA EDTWITTER PEAK, grown people smiling while saying "I didn't eat for days" or not smiling at all and just stating "Well, I only drink bone broth but I lost 4kg so... Nothing to complain". I won't drag Karina for stating that she often binges and starves while running in winter clothes to shed that extra weight, it's more how casual they say it. They don't see the problem at all. But then they're eating 10000kal like it's nothing, and this is very worrying. No wonder they are often hospitalized. Nobody's safe from these industry rules. submitted by /u/po_pov [link] [comments]
I recently came across a video talking about Niziu, JYPE's Japanese girl group who's been around since 2020. They claimed that JYPE doesn't appropriately promote their group and that's why, in OP's opinion, they are not well known. First, I've followed that group since the survival show, and they are very popular in Japan. They may not be on par with some of their Korean JYPE counterparts, but they're fundamentally different and breaking into different markets. So, naturally, I expect their growth to show in different ways. They're currently releasing promos for their upcoming mini album, and the content has made me excited and the girls all look amazing. I think it's going to match what they've already released and I'm looking forward to see them grow as a group. Anyway, I don't think any group, other than F(x) back in 2016, has been under promoted by any of the big 3, now big 4. Your Favorite main stream kpop group is not underpromoting. You're just not following their page/ YouTube/tiktok closely enough and expect algorithms to bring their content to the top of your fyp. These big companies are making soooo much content for these groups. I think it's time to quite pointing fingers at promotions and instead shine a light on big tech and how every second of our attention is being paid for in one way or another on all these social media sites. Let's not blame fans either when there is literally no more space in their attention for the next comeback. It's the algorithm and happenstance at this point. I think this also applies to smaller groups/ companies. They don't have the deep pockets to pay for their appearance on our fyp. And are competing against the big 4 for our attention. So, even groups like Dreamcatcher or Everglow aren't necessarily being under promoted, but being drowned out by everything else. submitted by /u/fictionalfinesse [link] [comments]
