15.347. A quick note about the generalization rule

  • 2 years ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The subreddit is mostly uncensored as long as people follow the rules. Generalizing statement about Korea, Korean society, etc or most other countries are not acceptable except under the following standards: The only claims that are acceptable when generalizing Korean society in this sub are those that bring up generalizable stastical claims by the standards of the international statistics institute. Not only do the vast majority of stastistics you can find on the internet about Korea not up to this minimum, basic standard but this requirement includes having ample sample size, blocking by relevant demographics and sometimes even double blind tests. So if you make a generalizing claim, your wording must be properly formatted and links to the relevant studies provided. In other words, the standard for making a generalization is very high in this sub. Not to mention the wording for your claim has to be properly made. Anyone who has taken a college level statistics class will know what I am talking about and we may even require you to provide the confidence level interval if it's relevant for your study. If you cannot meet these standards, I would just avoid doing it in general. submitted by /u/Kpop_Love_Forever [link] [comments]

4. K-Pop Girl Group Tournament (Day 51): f(x) vs. ITZY

  • 1 hour ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Day 50 Results: Red Velvet wins by 69 votes! (haha, nice) Vote for your favorite and as always poll closes in 24 hours! If you're unsure of who to vote for, here's a couple songs to help your decision: ITZY - In the morning ITZY - CAKE ITZY - Cheshire f(x) - Red Light f(x) - All Mine f(x) - Rum Pum Pum Pum First Half Second Half Disclaimer: This tournament is not a “comparison”. The seeds were randomized and I didn’t pick the matchups. The songs picked are amongst their most popular because they’re easy to recognize. If you have another song suggestion you may leave it in the comments but please refrain from complaining about the song not being included. I also try to switch up the listed songs every new round, so the songs you might not know from a group might not be listed as they were listed the previous round. Either way, feel free to recommend them in the comments if you’d like. submitted by /u/PushOffTheGround [link] [comments]

6. "Old" Kpop fans, can anyone explain to me the change from 1thek to company channels for MV ?

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

When I started listening to kpop in 2017 every MV was on the 1thek channel on youtube, except for the big 3 I think (I'm not even sure maybe jyp MV were on it too at some point). I never paid attention but now every group has its own YouTube channel, or at least uses a company channel. There is only a few groups and mainly soloist music on 1thek. Does anyone have an explanation to why this changed ? Why was everything on 1thek to begin with, what did they bring to the table ? I know 1thek is linked to Kakao so company must have gained something from publishing MV on that channel at the time but why ? Is the changed linked to hybe being created or not at all ? B Now that I'm thinking about this I need to staisfy my curiosity. submitted by /u/little_lou_ [link] [comments]

7. Every group paves the way, BTS just did it in a different way

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Preface: I am only mentioning groups I am a genuine fan of as to avoid people thinking I’m “hating” I think people have varying ideas of what “paving the way” means. A lot of people use it too often and in reference to so many different groups. I use the term very sparingly as I think paving the way is very different from what the majority of K-pop fans see it as. Doing something first is not paving the way TXT did not pave the way for Katseye because they were the first group to perform at lollapolooza. Blackpink didn’t pave the way for groups to perform at coachella cause they were first. If I break into a mall and you follow, and go to the jewelry section, you didn’t pave the way for people to steal jewelry just cause I went to the gucci store. Being the beneficiary of someone else paving the way, and then doing a bunch of things 1st doesn’t make it paving the way even if many groups do the same things you did. Older generation ≠ Paving the way (in its truest sense) Tying into the first point, the idea that every successful group of a previous generation paved the way for the groups of a new generation is not fully true. While I do think to a certain extent, the previous generation as a whole paved the way for the next, I think assigning that trait to every group that helped is inaccurate. Tired of hearing, “this group wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for this group so they paved the way more”. Shinee helped the 2nd gen pave the way but they didn’t pave the way for Exo or Red Velvet. Seventeen helped the 3rd gen pave the way but they didn’t pave the way for Ateez or TXT. Every group helps its generation pave the way for the future so if that’s what people think a group paving the way is, sure, every group paves the way. As for what I believe true paving the way is, I think it’s breaking into the mall. I believe it’s having such an impact that you create opportunities and allow for not only allows your hoobaes, but your peers, and even your sunbaes to benefit from. This is why I think BTS is different. They paved the way in the truest sense of the phrase. Their breakout as the biggest group in Korea to then expanding through Asia and then to the West is unprecedented and allowed for everyone in the industry to benefit from that, including every group in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen. I think the 3rd gen is where people have recently and going forward will blur the lines on what true paving the way is means. I truly don’t believe any groups other than BTS paved the way in this gen as what BTS did was so monumental that the other groups didn’t need to create any opportunities, they bounced on the opportunities that presented themselves when BTS did what it did. This isn’t to say that the other 3rd gen groups weren’t elite and impactful and won’t go down as legends. It’s just that these groups didn’t impact the industry in terms of influence and creating chances for others like BTS did. I think other groups/artists that paved the way for kpop include Seo Taiji, BoA, BigBang, and SNSD. I don’t consider PSY as someone who paved the way as as big as gangnam style was, I don’t think it created opportunities for other groups to thrive as it was more of a meme than this next big thing, and most people didn’t know what Kpop was. I think Katseye has the potential to pave the way for groups going forward based on how unique they are as an international girl group and how they’ve already been causing changes to the industry. submitted by /u/Regular-Breakfast699 [link] [comments]

16. Isn't it weird that kpop groups are doing what Lisa has been slutshamed for?

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

It's crazy how these recent and upcoming events that Lisa has done from the past year, she got so badly slutshamed and dragged through hell for it, like literally EVERYTHING she's done. And now, I just saw some hybe groups went to a F1GP & Twice to perform in VS. Their fans are literally notorious for slutshaming Lisa for everything she's doing. I don't want to read anyone denying it bcos their's a lot of twts & reddit posts I could pull as proof. My question is are they also sluts for performing & attending these events? or is that only reserved for Lisa whom is obvsly on these groups' company's moodboard? submitted by /u/Straight-Listen-2513 [link] [comments]

17. The term "Autotune" is overly used for every single Vocal Production technique

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Every time when an idol starts to sing something live, the fans only can compare whether the idols is singing with or without autotune! The voice sounds bigger = AUTOTUNE The voice sounds clearer = AUTOTUNE The voice has more tail at the end of the voice = AUTOTUNE Just gonna say, not every vocal production technique is about AUTOTUNE AUTOTUNE!! There are REVERB, EQ, DELAY, DOUBLING, HARMONY, PITCH CORRECTION, COMPRESSION, LIMITING, and many more! I am just very frustrated everything become AUTOTUNE when sometimes, there is not a single AUTOTUNE effect being put on the production. submitted by /u/Lost-Reception-1136 [link] [comments]
