This might be an unpopular opinion, but Iâve been thinking about BTSâ upcoming comeback and wondering if it will actually meet the sky-high expectations. Yes, their fanbase is still huge and dedicated, so the first-day/week numbers will probably be impressive. But there are some factors that might hold them back from reaching the same heights as their peak era: Shifts in the industry â New groups have been dominating while BTS has been on hiatus. Trends in both K-pop and Western pop have also changed, and casual listeners might not engage the way they used to. Their endorsements and actions calling for boycott particularly V over coke endorsement. A number of fans have expressed disappointment, and some even said theyâre leaving the fandom because of it. While ARMY is still strong, controversies like this can chip away at their global image and create friction within the fandom itself. Plus Hybe itself has been under fire recently (management issues, exploitation of artists, shady business practices), and because BTS is so tied to HYBE, any backlash directed at the company inevitably spills over onto them. For some people, supporting BTS now feels like supporting HYBE, which is a turn-off. Iâm not saying the comeback will flop theyâre too established for that. But it might not reach the same global takeover level of âDynamite,â âButter,â or âPermission to Dance.â Instead, it could end up being more of a fandom-driven success than a mainstream phenomenon. What do you think will BTSâ legacy and name power carry them to another record-breaking era, or will the changing industry and ongoing controversies hold them back? submitted by /u/switcharooo19 [link] [comments]

Hi! Most of my life, I wasn't really big on k-pop or anything like that, but I absolutely loved their fashion and was always interested in that. Finally, listening to songs from Illit made me actually start liking a k-pop group... which turned out to be a problem. It's not even that I'm crazy about them, I just think that their vibe is so unique and I want to support them so bad. The thing is, people around me are judging like CRAZY. Even if I only listen to one song, they're already on my case being like "ohhh you listen to k-pop, I didn't know you were like that" only because I like one band! If I liked another group of artists from a different genre, and bought a CD, everyone would supportive, cheering me on. When I like Illit, it's a whole different story, just because IT'S K-POP. I especially see this behaviour around men (I don't mean to judge of course, not all of them are like that, it's just my observation). I understand that people have these stereotypes, and that I should just ignore it, but it's a bit tough to do that when I just try to listen to music, and someone automatically throws shade. I wish liking music, and genuinely loving the energy of the members wasn't "punished" because of the behaviour of other people. submitted by /u/ShylyKindred [link] [comments]
