This megathread is about the ongoing dispute within HYBE and the management of sub-label ADOR. Substantial news developments may be posted to the subreddit (outside of the Megathreads). Moderators will only approve posts that focus on statements by relevant parties, official representatives, or legal authorities. Unofficial commentary, fandom activities, speculation, or blind items will not be acceptable. Articles or translations should ideally be presented as neutrally as possible. Titles or content that are obviously sensationalized or intended to persuade readers to one perspective will be removed. English-speaking news outlets that have relatively more neutral reporting include Soompi, Yonhap News, and Korea JoongAng Daily. THIS POST MAY BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED AT VARYING TIMES based on what the moderators are able to manage during their shifts. Articles / Timeline 250422 This day marks one year since HYBE launched their audit of Min Hee Jin and ADOR's management. Happy(?) 1st anniversary of the Megathreads! 250502 The 3rd hearing for Min Hee Jin vs. Belift Lab was set to take place but postponed to July 18th at Belift Lab's request. Each side is due to present their arguments/documents regarding plagiarism issues at the next meeting. (Source: Maeil Kyungjae) 250530 We learned that ADOR had filed for 'indirect enforcement' after their injunction was granted and NewJeans performed at ComplexCon back in March (Filed on April 4th according to the statement from NewJeans' representatives linked below). On the 30th, the 52nd Division of the Seoul Central District court further granted this request. The 'indirect enforcement' ruling means that each individual member of NewJeans will be fined 1 billion won (approx. $725,000) if they continue with entertainment activities independent of ADOR, which would be in violation of the injunction. This enforcement with potential fines does NOT apply to any of NewJeans' independent activities between the granting of the injunction and the granting of this 'indirect enforcement'. These fines will only apply to future activities going forward, or at least until rulings with NewJeans' appeal or the main contract validity case changes anything (next hearing on June 5th). (Source: Chosun Biz, MK Sports) The Korea Herald: Court orders NewJeans to pay Ador 1 billion won for each unauthorized activity Discussion Post Korea JoongAng Daily: Court orders NewJeans members to pay ADOR $725,600 for every independent entertainment activity A statement by NewJeans' representatives was made later in the day primarily acknowledging the indirect enforcement ruling, but reiterating that it is temporary and will no longer have an effect if NewJeans win their appeal of the injunction. (Source: Ilgan Sports) The 2nd hearing for Source Music's damages lawsuit against Min Hee Jin took place at the 12th Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Western District Court. (Quick recap: 1st was January 10th, 2nd was previously scheduled for March 14th, postponed per Source Music's request). Legal representatives were present. Source Music had a 20-minute presentation prepared, but Min Hee Jin's representatives objected to the inclusion of KakaoTalk messages in the presentation. They claimed the messages were illegally obtained and requested the hearing to be closed/private. Source Music denied the messages were obtained illegally, claiming they were gained from company devices with consent. The court went with a temporary compromise to keep the hearing public, but not allow discussion/display of the messages until they were reviewed again. A special hearing to review the messages will take place June 27th. (Source: Sports Today) 250605 The Seoul Central District Court Division 41 held the second hearing for ADOR seeking confirmation of validity for their exclusive contract with NewJeans. Only legal representatives were in attendance. NewJeans' side primarily argued that ADOR had not met their obligations and that their evidence they were preparing to support NewJeans' activities, like finding a new producer, was inadequate. ADOR's side argued that NewJeans' reasons for allegedly terminating their contract continually changed, indicating they are arbitrary and being made up with retroactive hindsight. The issue of some evidence being collected illegally also came up again from NewJeans' side. Judge Jung Hoe-Il specifically inquired if both/either sides were willing to come to an agreement, encouraging them to do so. NewJeans' representatives strongly indicated this was unlikely as the trust in ADOR had completely collapsed. ADOR's representatives indicated they could see negotiating an agreement once the court comes to a final decision. The 3rd hearing was set for July 24th. (Sources: X Sport News, Maeil Kyungjae) 250612 The next hearing regarding the Shareholder Agreement termination and exercising put/call options lawsuits between HYBE and Min Hee Jin was held at the Seoul Central District Court's 31st Division. Arguments from each side mostly re-tread what we've already covered. HYBE's side argued they were justified in ending the shareholder agreement due to the threat Min Hee Jin posed to the company. Min Hee Hin's side argued the timing of the audit/termination did not align purely with that concern and that some KakaoTalk messages and emails were obtained illegally and not admissable as evidence. HYBE also indicated they had a witness to give testimony at the next meeting, which the court accepted. The next hearing with closing arguments, was set for September 11th for both lawsuits. (Sources: Maeil Kyungjae, TV Daily, Sports Today) 250617 Following up from April 16th when NewJeans appealed the court's decision to uphold the injunction and halt on their independent activities, the Seoul High Court reaffirmed the earlier decision. The court rejected NewJeans' appeal. They determined there was no significant change in the material/arguments presented for the appeal and the original decision to grant ADOR's injunction was justified. There was further clarification that the management conflict between HYBE and Min Hee Jin, and her no longer being NewJeans' producer, did not constitute a valid argument for the alleged collapse of trust between ADOR and NewJeans. The group's withdrawal from ADOR is considered arbitrary, that their artistic freedom or activity is not impeded since they are able to do so within their exclusive contract, and that any damages resulting from attempting independent activities are self-inflicted. 15.211. A quick note about the generalization rule

  • 2 years ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The subreddit is mostly uncensored as long as people follow the rules. Generalizing statement about Korea, Korean society, etc or most other countries are not acceptable except under the following standards: The only claims that are acceptable when generalizing Korean society in this sub are those that bring up generalizable stastical claims by the standards of the international statistics institute. Not only do the vast majority of stastistics you can find on the internet about Korea not up to this minimum, basic standard but this requirement includes having ample sample size, blocking by relevant demographics and sometimes even double blind tests. So if you make a generalizing claim, your wording must be properly formatted and links to the relevant studies provided. In other words, the standard for making a generalization is very high in this sub. Not to mention the wording for your claim has to be properly made. Anyone who has taken a college level statistics class will know what I am talking about and we may even require you to provide the confidence level interval if it's relevant for your study. If you cannot meet these standards, I would just avoid doing it in general. submitted by /u/Kpop_Love_Forever [link] [comments]

Im literally obsessed. I’m watching the music video like 5-10 times a day at random points and I have never done this for any other song. It just keeps popping into my mind and I need to see it again. The vocals are so complex and beautiful, the plotline and visuals in the music video are so captivating, and the concept behind the song is a fresh take on toxic relationships. My favorite part is this frame in the music video with kyujin’s amazing vocals ‘every day, every night, we on and on’ in the background… chef’s kiss. I hope nmixx gets the recognition they deserve because this is such a strong single from the album. Please remove any prejudices you have against nmixx for their debut and watch it 🙏 it is incredible submitted by /u/ExternalAlarming2052 [link] [comments]

13. To People Who Witnessed It, How Did Cha Eunwoo Get So Popular*?

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

* yes, I know he's handsome but there are tons of handsome people from mid-level companies and they didn't get anywhere near Eunwoo's straddle on popularity in S.Korea (and abroad). I'm intrigued on what measures his company took, the timing of it all and any other factors. I first got to know about Eunwoo bc of a drama he was in (I watched it in 2020). He was pretty okay as a lead, not mind-blowing; his chemistry with the other main leads helped. When looking at his profile, I noticed that he was in a group who I only had vaguely seen popping up in my recommended. That's how I found Astro (After Midnight is one of the best light/fun boy group songs btw) and I ended up discovering their discography. I remember seeing the "Eunwoo and Friends" allegations, but I didn't really see it fully bc of me not paying attention to non-music Astro stuff. Yes, Eunwoo is incredibly popular but that doesn't take away the members' talents ofc. MJ is an insanely competent vocalist, Jinjin and Rocky are very proficient song-writers and rappers, and Sanha & Moonbin are incredible performers (RIP, Moonbin). In general, there will always be a most and least popular member anyways, but I do get the impression that the gap is somewhat big in Eunwoo's case. Personally, I do think he's worked hard to become better at areas he lacked at in the beginning of his career. It seems like he understands the "idol" life well, since he navigates it well enough to have millions of dedicated fans who are willing to pay for most of what he endorses. He also must be a steady worker if he can consistently get jobs outside of being an idol. Anyways, check out Astro's stuff if you haven't! I'll be happy to give any recs in the comments if anyone asks for them :). Also, please no hate to Eunwoo or any of the members! submitted by /u/angie_kiprevski [link] [comments]

14. SM is literally what everyone accuses Hybe of being. I genuinely believe this Hybe-hatred is just BTS resentment rebranded, prove me wrong?

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Ever since the MHJ/Nwjns thing reddit and kpop twitter have decided HYBE is the root of all evil. Chart manipulation, media play, mistreatment, obsession with other companies, controlling narratives, etc. But if you actually look at whats come out SM has literally been exposed for doing exactly the things people accuse HYBE of. Media manipulation: SM literally hired a PR firm to create fake online narratives during their feud with HYBE. They made viral posts, spread anti HYBE talking points and had articles talking bad about HYBE groups, (not just the company) and tried to frame HYBE as ruining groups after takeovers. This is documented. Undermining other groups: Nate from American Hustle Life said he was told not to work with BTS because they were just a “filler” group and to focus on EXO instead presumably by SMs side. That’s the level of arrogance they had even back then. This was 2014. Obsessed with other companies energy: People love to say HYBE is obsessed with SM groups but SM literally created SuperM with the whole “the Avengers of Kpop” concept just to compete with BTS internationally and knock them down. Like they built an entire supergroup specifically to challenge BTS' success. Mistreatment of their idols: I mean, do I really have to elaborate this one? Also the whole 'stanning HYBE the company' thing but SM literally has a company fandom name: PinkBloods. They literally branded and marketed corporate stanning. Wheres the talk about that? Make it make sense. Then theres this whole “every K-pop subreddit is run by HYBE stans” narrative. If you want to see a real case of company stans running a subreddit go check out noir. That place is basically SMs PR department. If you stan a HYBE or YG group dont even bother joining. youll be treated like youre working hand in hand with Netanyahu for liking BTS or Blackpink. Meanwhile SM groups get away with murder there. Thats an actual example of a subreddit run by corporate stans. And people love to claim uncensored is full of HYBE stans but come on. Every negative and positive post about basically anything gets deleted there. if you look back at posts like Sugas scooter incident, or LSFs vocals controversy it wasnt “HYBE stans” driving those hate trains. It was, as usual, SM group fans front and center. I was literally there when the reporting wars started. It began with Bunnies mass reporting every negative post about Min Hee Jin and NewJeans and every positive post about LSF or ILLIT. I watched the sub shift in real time. So yeah maybe its run by fans of a HYBE group now but ironically the ones who pretend they arent. At the end of the day everything people accuse HYBE of, SM has actually done. Yet somehow HYBE gets treated like its uniquely evil and I genuinely dont think its because of HYBE itself. The intensity of the hate just doesnt make sense otherwise. Its not normal for a company and their artists to get this much emotional reaction unless theres something deeper behind it. And if were being real that “something deeper” is probably BTS. HYBE exists at this scale because BTS built it from nothing and for a lot of people thats still hard to swallow. It flipped the whole Kpop hierarchy that the Big 3 had defined for decades. Suddenly the “underdogs” became the standard. So now every frustration people used to feel about BTS, the overexposure, the awards, the western success, the cultural shift etc. gets projected onto HYBE and its other groups. Its easier to say “HYBE ruined Kpop” than to admit the landscape changed because BTS did what no one thought possible. Thats why the rage feels so personal. Its not really about HYBEs business moves or even their artists. Its about what BTS represents. But I am open to having my mind changed if you feel there is a different reason. submitted by /u/thebarted [link] [comments]

15. All the “Cortis is unoriginal” takes

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I dont know why people are so pressed that others have called Cortis’s sound fresh or new. And complaining that it’s just rehashed Playboy Carti sounding songs. “Fresh” and “New” were the same descriptions for Newjeans when they first came out. As if Newjeans songs weren’t just reheated PinkPantheress songs(I like both newjeans and pinkpantheress songs. And in MY opinion the more the better, so I dont get fans who moan about similar sounding songs, I just take it as a win for more songs I like). From what I can remember at the start of Newjean’s career there weren’t that many people calling them “unoriginal” or “bootleg pinkpantheress”. At least not as many as people calling Cortis “unoriginal”. I think it’s unfair that Cortis is being judged wayyy more harshly than Newjeans for practically doing almost the same thing. Drawing heavily from a genre and repackaging it into kpop. It feels like a double standard. Like if you are going to criticize Cortis then why dont you hold other groups to the same standard. At the end of the day both groups were clearly inspired by already existing styles/genre that BOTH were pioneered by black artists(uk garage & trap). Just doesn’t make sense to complain about Cortis but it was silent when it came to Newjeans. This isnt to drag Newjeans, it’s just to point out the hypocrisy in kpop fans. submitted by /u/yuLia_yaj [link] [comments]
