What’s wrong with K-pop’s international fan base?

Im Korean, and KPop has been REALLY getting under my skin lately. The music is okay- I don’t really like most of the music modern groups are putting out, but that’s just my preference. It’s the FAN CULTURE. CAN FANS PLEASE EXPLAIN THESE: -Obsessing over kpop idols and their “personalities” when their jobs are to be idols on and off stage? It doesn’t mean idols are bad people, just that people shouldn’t be obsessing over their scripted personalities. -Posting “Kpop idols workouts” and “idol diets” when most idols have clear eating disorders/starve themselves -THE “CUTE IDOL MOMENT” COMPILATIONS. These idols are so clearly fishing to be clipped, and people eat it up 😭😭 -Koreaboos- PLEASE STOP. Why am I getting fetishized because I’m Korean 😭 Kdramas and Kpop are great parts of our culture, but they’re just our entertainment- many aspects of our culture are totally different submitted by /u/breaddoes [link] [comments]

2.568. Respect for Twice at Lollapalooza who did the best?

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

First I will say that Dahyun and Jeongyeon looked the happiest to be there. Lot's of energy off those two. Tzuyu and Mina must have stepped on the sound engineers foot because their mics are very low. Nayeon and Jihyo win for best effort but both are smashing their monitors into their ears but seemed to straighten it out during the break. Who must have stepped on the camera directors foot because more of their parts appear off camera? That would be Chaeyoung and Momo. I take back fixing the monitors I just heard Nayeon hurt a cat. submitted by /u/Sapriste [link] [comments]

2.569. Kim Garam's Instagram Update and 700k+ followers

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

She posted her second photo today, and despite being mostly silent on it, she's already sitting at 700K followers. At this rate, she might cross a million soon. I'm not bringing this up to reopen the bullying scandal again, people are entitled to their opinions on it. But for me, I followed her because it just felt genuinely unfair how everything played out. She was so young, and it all unfolded so fast and so publicly. Whether or not you believe she made mistakes, the level of backlash was overwhelming. I've seen some people question why there's still so much support and how the attention feels over-the-top or parasocial. I think a lot of people, myself included, aren't just "stanning" her but quietly hoping she gets another shot at life on her own terms. So I'm curious: Why do you think so many people still care about Kim Garam, even after all this time, and even though she was only in Le sserafim for such a short period? submitted by /u/prettymuneca [link] [comments]

2.570. I feel absolutely inclined to introduce you to this underrated masterpiece of a song by TEN, because he truly deserves more appreciation as a solo artists-LIE WITH YOU by TEN

I could go on and on and on and on and on...Pause did I say I could go on?? I could go on and on about how ridiculously great Ten's solo discography is. It truly is an amazing ride. I was going to drop two video clips-One of Water and one of Lie with you but sub only allowed me to post one. I saw stunner being posted a while back and it got some good traction, so I'm riding on the waves that the people might wanna listen to more ten hopefully. His discography is truly unmatched-Water, Lie with you, Stunner, Enough for me e.t.c I run to his music once I hear he will be dropping music. Ten+Jaehhun+Onew+Baekhyun-my personal goated combo for good solo music. I hope you take this as a sign to listen to his music-While you are at it, listen to Twist by Wayv(truly unmatched) submitted by /u/Muted_Bodybuilder109 [link] [comments]

2.573. Kim Garam finally updated her Instagram and she's at 700k followers

She posted her second photo today, and despite being mostly inactive, she’s already at over 700,000 followers. At this rate, she might hit 1 million soon. It’s kind of surreal to watch, especially considering everything that’s happened. I’m not bringing this up to reopen the bullying scandal again, people are entitled to their opinions on it. But for me, I followed her because it just felt genuinely unfair how everything played out. She was so young, and it all unfolded so fast and so publicly. Whether or not you believe she made mistakes, the level of backlash was overwhelming. I’ve seen a lot of people online ask why is she still getting so much attention? She was only in the group for a short time. She barely had any public activities. And with everything that happened, some people are calling the continued support “delusional” or overly parasocial. I think a lot of people aren’t just “stanning” her but they’re quietly hoping she gets another shot at life on her own terms. So I’m curious: Why do you think so many people still care about Kim Garam, even after all this time, and even though she was only in the group for such a short period? submitted by /u/prettymuneca [link] [comments]

2.578. Which Idol Human Theater episode is your favorite?

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I feel like every episode with Twice was super funny but if I had to pick a favorite, maybe the one where they played a “guess who” game and a game similar to never have I ever where you’d put a finger down if a description applied to you. One of my favorite moments was when Tzuyu did a body wave to grab fruit across the table when the group was eating. submitted by /u/choerry_bomb [link] [comments]

2.583. Let me know some struggles stories from groups that didn’t debut under the big 3/4

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I say 3/4 because obviously hybe wasn’t big until BTS and I’m sure army’s have some stories to tell. I know idols under big companies can have struggles, especially when it comes to favouring certain groups, but I’d like to highlight some of the groups who made it big who didn’t have the same opportunities as others. The main one that comes to mind is seventeen, who I Stan but aren’t my ult - them filming their own music videos and woozi putting in so much effort makes me so happy to see them where they are now Ateez needs a mention as well - always booked, doing everything they can to promote their group. The pre debut videos of them on the street asking people to come to their shows always pops up in my mind when I see their tour videos nowadays. submitted by /u/jakylln [link] [comments]

2.584. Which K-pop idols do you think have the coolest or most unique stage names?

Some idol stage names are sleek and simple, others are bold, mysterious, or just really fun to say. I’m curious whose stage name has always stood out to you and why? Whether it’s the meaning behind it, the way it sounds, or how well it fits their vibe, feel free to share your picks!
