i'm really curious! also, if you think that i'm defining early kpop vs later kpop incorrectly, please let me know how you'd define it! for early kpop, it seemed more common to have all the members singing and harmonizing at the same time. i really liked that a lot with later kpop, i like how it seems to span across more genres. but maybe early kpop did that too and i just missed it? what do you guys think? submitted by /u/Relevant_Loan2278 [link] [comments]

I've genuinely seen more people mistake inactive grps as nugu than I've seen people putting actual nugu grps under that category. For example,I've lost count of those who've classified wjsn as nugu. They aren't nugu, they're just inactive. When they were active they were decently popular. They won queendom in 2022,they had a Christmas hit that rose every new year's on korean charts, they hit the 100k sales mark for their albums. They were comfortably top mid tier. It also happens a lot with 2nd gen grps than newer gen kpop fans may have not heard. I've seen people put some really popular 2nd gen grps such as kara and AOA on the nugu category. They were nowhere near nugu tho. They're just disbanded/inactive. (I think kara recently reunited tho) An actual nugu grp is an active group with low streams, sales, social media engagement and a small fandom. Inactive grps such as wjsn don't have recent achievements, not no achievements at all. submitted by /u/Alive-Pitch-9180 [link] [comments]
Why I don't stan and listen to bgs: The Boyfriend Image: A lot of bgs sell the “I want to be your boyfriend” image. It feels like they focus more on fanservice than the music. I just want to enjoy the songs, not get into parasocial relationships. I’m a straight woman btw. The Music: Bg songs are harder to get into. They’re not as catchy or easy to listen to for me. Gg songs are my type. Gg songs are more appealing because they have fun beats, easy melodies, and tuneful vocals. Fashion: I like how girl idols dress more. Their style matches my preference. Albums and Merch: Gg albums and merch are so much cuter, cooler, and prettier. I actually want to buy them. Relatability: I just relate to girls more. They feel like friends or sisters. Voices: I prefer female voices. They sound better to me. Other Reasons: There’s a bunch of little things, but these are the main ones. submitted by /u/sparklemoments [link] [comments]

There’s a big difference between getting less popular over time and never being known in the first place. I know that we now live in a time were rookie groups pull the same numbers than groups who were at their peak in the 2000s or early 2010s however, some groups that debuted in the 2nd or early 3rd generation were very popular in their time they might’ve had hit songs, big fandoms, and industry respect. But after years of inactivity, disbandment, or members focusing on solo careers, they naturally lost momentum and aren’t as visible to newer fans. That doesn’t make them “nugus.” It just means they’ve faded from public memory due to time, not because they were never known in the first place. T-ara, After School, Block B, Wanna One, 2NE1, 2PM, Miss A, B.A.P, Infinite, Teen Top (list goes on) at their peak, they were major acts. They may not be active now, but they’re part of Kpop history. Actual nugus would be small company groups who never broke into mainstream recognition even during their active "peak" years. Calling older, once successful groups “nugus” flattens K-pop history in my opinion, it ignores how the industry evolves and how trends shift. You can't call a 2000s pop band “irrelevant nobodies” just because you don't remember them. It misses the context. Maybe this post is dumb or it doesn't make sense to people because it's not that deep, which i can understand but i just thought about it. submitted by /u/Injeolmie_04 [link] [comments]
