So I heard youtube is going to be using AI to verify its users age and identity to "make it a safer safe." I watch tons of k-pop videos (music videos, k-commentary, etc) on there and I am not fully sure how to feel about this. I personally don't trust AI and I don't think this is going to be making youtube any better than it already is. I think my youtube addiction will finally come to an end when this comes to effect. Will you guys still continue to use youtube after this? I might be a little overreacting to this but I sooo don't trust Ai with anything. What do you guys think? submitted by /u/Yveslovescats [link] [comments]

1.199. Why does one woman (Sulli-Jennie-Wonyoung) become Kpop's punching bag in every generation?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Idols are unjustly hated on. Period. But I’m curious about this specific flavor of hate that comes mostly from women. I’ve noticed that these three were often called attention-seeking, lazy, or favored in their respective generations. However, once their generation has peaked and a new generation takes over, they are suddenly revered. The hate or reverence they receive is always disproportionate compared to other female idols of the same era. At the generations "peak" any video about their “scandals” would garner millions of views. The girls could be crying or visibly disturbed, yet people still go all in as if they’re not human beings but punching bags. If anything, their tears are mocked. Nearly the exact same pattern repeats in every generation. What makes their haters target these particular women? Was it because they were different? submitted by /u/Wooyoungsmole [link] [comments]

1.201. Different Reactions to GIRLSET and Fifty Fifty

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I just want opinions or even someone to explain what’s the difference between the “VCHA” (GIRLSET) and Fifty Fifty redebut because although they shared similar conditions, the general reactions to their redebuts are so stark. Like, both groups when on hiatus’ due to members coming out about abuse within the company and both took legal action. However, when Keena decided to redebut with the new Fifty Fifty lineup, she was shred to bits by the general public, and when 4/6 of the VCHA members decided to redebut, everybody is calling them iconic and supporting them. I don’t have anything against either group, i’m just confused. Is there something i’m missing? submitted by /u/ohmyrosie [link] [comments]

1.202. Anyone else uncomfortable with kpop debut ages?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm a 24 year old grown adult man now, but I've been a kpop fan since I was 13, and an Apink fan for just as long. Apink has been around so long that I thought that the members must be reaching their 40s now. It turns out they're in their early 30s. Oh Ha-young is 29. That means Oh Ha-young was 14 when Apink debuted in 2011. Multiple other members were 17. I feel like I can't enjoy Apink in good conscience anymore, at least not their early stuff. They never had sexy concepts, but it still feels wrong to watch a 14 year old sing love songs and dance. It's not even just Apink, it's a lot of my long time favorites. 4Minute (Sohyun was also 14!), T-ara, 2NE1, Twice, so many of them. I never came to kpop to be titilated. I've also been enjoying all this since I was younger than the members when they debuted. But I'm still a grown man, and they're still a minor as young as 14 in the video. I feel like debuting idols so young ages out fans once the fan gets older. Maybe this is all common knowledge within the fandom. I never really looked into the fandom, and I never really researched into my favorite groups too much, just enjoyed the music. But now I feel like I have to verify everyones age before I listen to them. I don't mean to ruin anything for anyone, but for adult fans that want to check how old their favorites were in debut, I used this article. Sorry for the long post. Tldr: Turns out a lot of kpop videos heavily feature minors. Very uncomfortable. submitted by /u/700Sevenhundred700 [link] [comments]

1.203. Cortis sounds super fun and Catchy, so why the hate?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm not really a Kpop fan, but one of my friends is and she showed me this group. It sounds absolutely amazing and from what I heard musically its catchy and the lyrics are actually coherent and not cringey. The video also is far different from any of the kpop she showed me in the case that its goofy and not trying to show off any of the visuals of the members. So why is their a kpop hate for their music? I get people hate the auto tune, but everybody uses auto tune and here at least its a stylistic choice. submitted by /u/CitronEmpty327 [link] [comments]

1.204. telling friend i don’t wanna hear about her interactions

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

okay so for context i am mainly a girl group stan! i like some boy group songs and only really bias txt then all my girl groups. but i ended up getting into enhypen as my next boy group! about 2? years ago i added them to my stan list and my close friend helped me learn about them since she knew them since iland. cut to now we went to our first concert together for them! we got vip 1 and also had a little trip planned. i was really excited and everything was going great! the show was amazing don’t get me wrong like i will forever remember that night but basically my friend was making me feel weird the whole night. basically the whole sound check and show all she could do is be like “omg look he smiled at me! winked! air kiss!” and i didn’t get any and i didn’t mind i love live music but when i told her i didn’t get any she was like “that must suck and you must feel awful” and im like should i? then at send off basically a similar thing happened we go in together she found a corner and i got pushed around luckily i got 2 pcs signed because the person in front of me asked if i had any. i didn’t get photos or interactions but it was fun! but as we left she kept going on about her getting all the photos and signatures, which i did wanna hear about! but then when she asked me and i told her she was like “oh no you must be heartbroken maybe next time :(“ basically i didn’t feel bad about any of these things i am a lesbian so me and boy groups have a different kind of interest. but she even after it keeps saying how i missed out and that’s making me feel bad. especially since she loves to compare what she got to the little i got. how do i tell her i don’t wanna hear about it if she’s just gonna make me feel bad but also i don’t wanna be mean or come off as jealous i just wish she would stop making me feel bad separating. submitted by /u/strawbvryswitchblade [link] [comments]

1.205. Why is JYP’s marketing so… bad? (2010–2025 examples)

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’ve been following K-pop since a long time and every time I look at JYPE’s marketing, I just get frustrated. It feels like they’ve had a decade to figure this out but somehow the same problems keep happening over and over. Here’s what I mean: 2nd Gen Era (2010–2014) Wonder Girls – After their US debut attempt flopped, their Korean promotions slowed down and they lost momentum. They had so much potential but it felt like JYPE just… gave up instead of rebuilding hype. Miss A – “Bad Girl Good Girl” blew up, but after that, inconsistent comebacks, long gaps, and minimal promotion basically killed the buzz. They should’ve been a top girl group for years, but nope. 2PM & 2AM – 2PM had a loyal fandom but were sidelined when the company focused on newer projects. 2AM barely got any promotion compared to ballad groups from other companies. 3rd Gen Era (2015–2019) Twice – Don’t get me wrong, Twice’s rise was huge, but even during their peak JYPE relied way too heavily on the “cute concept” image. The pivot to mature concepts (“Fancy,” “Feel Special”) was almost too late, and their international marketing lagged behind competitors. Day6 – One of the most talented bands in K-pop, yet almost no variety show appearances, poor MV promotions, and zero push to get them known outside their niche fanbase. GOT7 – This one still hurts. Amazing global fanbase, but JYPE gave them the bare minimum in Korean promotions, and international schedules were often a mess. Their comeback teasers were random, and merch quality was questionable. They basically promoted themselves. 4th Gen Era (2020–2025) ITZY – Debuted with a bang (“Dalla Dalla” was everywhere), but JYPE’s overuse of the “girl crush” concept without evolving it led to fatigue. International promotion feels awkward — either too slow or suddenly rushed. NMIXX – Their debut was all over the place. The song (“O.O”) had potential but the mix of genres wasn’t explained well, and they didn’t market the group’s concept clearly. Also, the teasers felt disconnected from the actual MV. They’re super talented, but the rollout didn’t help them. Xdinary Heroes – Barely any promo compared to other JYPE groups, and when they do have content, it’s not pushed enough for casual listeners to find them. The Pattern It’s not like JYPE can’t produce good music or talented idols — they clearly can. The problem is: Long gaps between comebacks for some groups, while others get oversaturated. Confusing or outdated concept marketing. Lack of international strategy until it’s too late. Weak follow-up after a big hit — they ride the wave, then disappear. It’s been 15 years and the same issues keep repeating. You’d think they’d have studied what worked and what didn’t by now, but nope. submitted by /u/Critical_Year_4762 [link] [comments]

1.206. is anyone interested here interested in seeing my takes on english lyrics of kpop songs?

sometimes i like to just sit down and make my own interpretation of kpop songs-- based on the already available english translations (mainly from official vids, color coded lyrics, and genius) mixed with my own lines based on what the song is about and the flow. i have a few i've already written but i have no where to post them and i wanna get others opinions on them. submitted by /u/musical_fanatic [link] [comments]

Hey everyone! I'm actually going to be in LA this week at the same time as BND because i'm going to the enhypen concert. I entered to win the fan sign, (I didn't win), and applied to work at it as well (I didn't hear back). I saw they are performing at the Grammy Museum but found out too late and I'm on the waiting list. I did see there is a fan cafe on the 14th. I was wondering if any of you knew of any other BND events or things happening this week in CA? I would LOVE to see them somehow!! thanks :) submitted by /u/BerryStyles9 [link] [comments]

1.215. I'm still not sure why there is so much discourse over whether or not Huntrix is a real kpop group?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Because to me it seems very obvious, that they are not. There are real singers who act as their voice actors for the songs, but Huntrix is not an actual group - they simply exist in this one singular movie. This is not the first animated movie to be based on music nor have a band in it, but this is the first time I'm seeing so much confusion around it. Like I've genuinely never seen people refer to, for example, alvin and the chipmunks as an actual boy band and never seen them been mentioned among the likes of BTS, one direction, etc despite also having real voice singers and being immensely successful. People making comparions to hatsune miku, plave, gorillaz, etc don't make sense at all, since Huntrix is not a vocaloid project or a virtual artist. Much love to all the amazing singers, but it genuinely confuses me how people think Huntrix is an actual kpop group. Perhaps seeing the popularity of the movie, they might make end up making it a virtual project? Similar to how big time rush decided to be a real boy band after the success of their series. submitted by /u/peach_tweech [link] [comments]
