582. Common use of English in songs around the world.

  • 5 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm always amused by the absolute hatred some people have for "English" songs and selling out to the west. The reality, regardless of the reasons why (that's a whole other discussion!) is that many countries in Asia and around the world use English as a second language. Some even treat it as an official language. India, Pakistan, Philippines and Singapore use English widely. This is also true for many countries around the world. While Asia is home to so many languages, from Arabic to Vietnamese, it's fairly common to find people who speak some level of English. So why is it so surprising that English songs would penetrate international markets more than local language songs? I think the remarkable fact that Korean has managed to spread so widely should be celebrated! And yet, having groups sing in English is a good marketing move, in my opinion. So I ask you all, if you are not from an English speaking country (US, UK, AUS etc.) is English an official language in your country? A common language? Or is it not commonly used at all? And other than the local music, what pop music language is the most common? submitted by /u/bungluna [link] [comments]

583. Two months after dirty work, aespa's new comeback? Question...

  • 5 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Their tour only ended 5 months ago as well. I hope they aren't being overworked, but honestly, purely from a business standpoint, releasing another comeback 2 months after dirty work (that quite a bit of people didn't like, despite the success) is a smart move. And i've heard tours are the biggest money generators, so another tour was smart as well. They're currently insanely popular, it's a good way to retain their relevance (looking at you, jype) I'm curious because a lot of people get mad when their faves are overworked but also don't like waiting more than 6 months between each comeback. If you had to choose ONE: Do you guys think it's better to have comebacks 2/3 months between eachother or comebacks with a longer period of 7/8 months between them? submitted by /u/Gold_Meaning3688 [link] [comments]

584. What is going on with YG entertainment??

  • 5 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Treasure is coming back today at 6PM KST, with their 3rd mini album (yes only 3rd in 5 years) but this is the first time in recent K-pop history that a group releasing an album has NO MV TEASER. Only a few badly made posters....seems like there may not even be the usually comeback livestream. On top of that, the album photos don’t even match the song or theme. It feels so disconnected and random. What exactly is going on?? At this point, it’s not even neglect it feels like sabotage, Why is a rich big 4 company, handling things like this… unless it’s intentional? YG is obsessed with himself, and I know people always say he always favored boy groups but I’ve always felt like he disliked Treasure because they aren’t entirely his creation since he stepped down during their early years. Ever since he came back, all he’s done is put them on a 1.5-year hiatus with no album, then one album with bare minimum promo....and endless japan tour and merch. It’s especially frustrating considering that YG literally threatened fans during that recent announcement video. Thoughts? am I over reacting? YG has been bad at promoting but this feels like a new level..... submitted by /u/saltybitterblob [link] [comments]

588. Something I noticed about stray kids newest mv’s!

  • reddit.com language

Heyy Before you cancel me: I’m a stay and I just wanted to talk about how skz‘s mv style has changed in their latest music videos. This is just my personal opinion, and I’m not here to hate on skz by any means, I still love them and this is just some stuff I observed and wanted to have other peoples opinions on! Alright, so what I’ve been noticing lately is that stray kids mv’s are really really into a lot of extra effects and also lots of cgi! (I think the biggest examples would be Giant, ceremony and now bleep) For some people this is a good thing, and for others it can be a bit off putting! personally I feel like the balance between cool video effects and cgi has been a bit too much and outweighed the rest of the clips in the mv’s. It’s kinda of hard to focus on the members when there’s so much going on! I feel like ceremony did get away with it pretty well, but videos like giant and bleep were a bit too overwhelming where I felt like I was seeing more cgi and effects than the actual idols (especially cgi!). Did you guys also notice this, and what do you think about it? I feel like it’s good that they are experimenting with their mv’s and trying out new things but sometimes it’s just too overwhelming or somethings the cgi just looks funnyy Im still gonna support them as I love their music, and the mv’s are still cool and have really awesome transitions (bleeps transitions are so cool!!) and that’s it, thank you for reading! Their hard work is really showing and I hope they get the rest they need ❤️ submitted by /u/DefNotLix [link] [comments]

598. People look down on producing skills and it's annoying

  • 5 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

This is brought on by all the people complaining about Stay Kids' comeback, both on reddit, X and YouTube. I usually don't pay attention to that kind of things but I noticed they all say the same thing : the chorus is empty, they didn't bother writing anything, it's lazy. And like, I'm sorry, were you hearing complete silence between the hip hip hoorays? To be clear, I love good lyricism and choruses with singing, and if that song isn't your cup of tea, that's totally fine. But people act like instrumentals are worthless. Like it didn't take time, effort and skills to make it. Like it's just something that should stay hidden behind the singing, something that can't exist on its own. I think it's pretty insulting, to be honest. It's a skill and an art, just like lyricism. If you prefer one over the other, that's fine, but acting like one is superior to the other is in bad taste. Not everyone can create a beatdrop that works or an instrumental that makes people want to dance, just like not everyone can write something that makes people emotional. Stop acting like they just pressed a button and boom, the chorus is made. It's not lazy just because it's not what you like. It's not that deep etc etc but it was bothering me submitted by /u/silly_baguette [link] [comments]
