5. K-pop companies main flaw is approaching the West with a K-pop formula mindset

  • 38 minutes ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Every time K-pop companies want to promote in the West they always go to shows; Today’s Show, GMA, The Kelly Clarkson show etc when known US acts don’t even promote on there as much. In Korea, shows like Music Bank, Inkigayo etc are known for promotions for Korea and it works but in the US it’s a whole different ball game. But K-pop companies are one of the main ones that treat the US as a secondary promotional base by adopting similar promotional strategies like they do in Korea (they also do it for Japan). When British acts pivot towards the western audience they do so when they hit big here, meanwhile K-pop companies think dropping a english song will work when in reality your only promoting to the K-pop fanbase that was there already, they also throw in random collabs in the midst of promoting the single as a promotional strategy as well. They need to approach it differently, TikTok is a gold mine for pushing a song to go viral in the west (ex: look at Zara Larson Midnight Sun going viral everywhere because of her opening for Tate Mcrae) , collabing with known brands and using it as promo to push the song is a great start, for example lsfm collabed with Overwatch and every time you log into the game Perfect Night played, while they performed in Korea for a short amount of time and then their viral moment at the Lakers game that’s when the song started to kick off fully then they promoted it in western shows. It pains me to see SM do old habits that just don’t work, marketing here is their weakest point, song choice and concept is a really good branding to start, they need to look at how Jennie and Rose promoted their solo albums here, even Katseye did their first roll out amazing, they did a mini concert to showcase their Debut mini and did perfs at malls. Idk to me companies are wasting lackluster promotional strategies instead of actually using their time and resources to fully study how acts promote in the west, because to me there only studying how other K-pop companies promote their groups in the US when they need to do their research on previous famous boy bands/girl bands. submitted by /u/Simmibrina00 [link] [comments]

7. Calling male idols „lesbians”, „babygirls”, „mothers” is weird - change my mind.

  • 50 minutes ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Can someone please explain to me why it’s suddenly normal, especially on X, to refer to male idols using terms like “lesbian,” “babygirl,”, "my girlfriend", “mother” etc.? People usually respond with, “It’s just a Gen Z thing,” but that doesn’t make it okay to me. I believe it happens in many other fandoms but I'll use Stray Kids as an example (And please believe me I don't think the whole fandom is like that!) If this behavior were directed toward Felix — who’s openly expressed appreciation for his androgynous side (which I fully support, by the way) — maybe it would at least make more sense. Instead, people are going after Changbin and Bang Chan, and it’s getting weird. I constantly see comments about their "breasts", “boobs” and how they “need a bra,” followed by people calling them “my babygirl.” Am I really the only one who finds that incredibly uncomfortable? If these are jokes how is that funny? Take someone like Changbin — he’s a great example of anti toxic masculinity. He’s never been ashamed of liking things like the color pink or doing gg choreos, he clearly loves and respect women in a healthy way. So why can’t people just let him be a man who enjoys so-called “girly” things without labeling him as a woman? Being a woman isn’t bad, obviously, but Changbin is a 26-year-old man who’s never said otherwise. When I try to explain my perspective in the comments, I get called a transphobe, misogynist, or told I hate women. But these idols aren’t trans, and they’re not women — so why are we calling them that? And when I say I don’t like seeing people call them “lesbians,” somehow that makes me homophobic? As someone in the LGBTQ+ community myself, that logic just doesn’t hold up. I’m an empath. I imagine what it must feel like to go on X and see thousands of people zooming in on your body, calling you a different gender, and making weird jokes about it. It honestly makes me nauseous. I’ve tried to avoid these kinds of people, but it’s impossible now. And if idols want to stay connected to fans, they can’t avoid it either — they’re being forced to read this stuff. I'm open for discussion, maybe you will be able to change my mind or at least make me less emotional about it. Also does it happen in your fandom too? Thanks for reading! submitted by /u/egggrandpa [link] [comments]

8. K-Pop songs that repeat the title in their lyrics...a lot.

  • 1 hour ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

What songs can you think of that do this? Inspired by this video. It lists the count as 219 of the single word, but since the title consists of the single word two times, the "real count" of the number of times the title is repeated would be 109 (and a half). submitted by /u/DizzyLead [link] [comments]

15. K-pop stans have parasocial illness. Let's talk about it.

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

As I said. Yes, many kpop stans have parasocial illness. (I just made this up idk if it's a real word) First off I just wanna say I've been in a lot of fandoms all over the world. Before you start saying "this isn't only an issue in K-pop!" Yes it's not only in K-pop, but it's A LOT MORE common in K-pop than other fandoms. I'm just genuinely curious. Do people not care about music anymore? Genuinely, why is everyone so curious about idols and their lives? It's crazy how much that matters to K-pop stans it's almost like they wanna date them. Turns out they probably do. Like honestly if you look at Beyoncé. Her life is so private to the point that she doesn't even do interviews anymore, it's probably been more than 10 years since her last one. She drops a music video drops an album and goes to tour. submitted by /u/StonDelRey [link] [comments]

18. ITZY are one of, if not, the most consistent idols and performers of 4th gen.

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The girls have never had a criticised performance before and as a person who's had the priviledge of going to many girl group tours, Itzy's Born To Be tour was, by far, the best. Their energy, chemistry, fanservice was off the charts. And the production!!! The live band, the stage set up, the props were just... Amazing. The girls danced like crazy, it was mesmirising seeing them in real life 😭😭😭 They also all made sure to speak a bit of the language of the countries they were in, and their english was amazing. The solo stages were gorgeous, too (although they didn't perform all of the solo songs live), and they somehow made the stage feel full even at times when there were no backup dancers there. Despite their success "wavering" for the past 3 years, they've kept up the energy they've had since rookies. And their personality on camera and in fanmeets, fansigns ect are just so, so lovely and funny. They are one of the big 3/4 groups that have the least amount of scandals and the "scandals" they do have are rarely anything serious. Their consistency is amazing and they never seem to slack off. I think this should be the bare minimum, but in reality, the industry's bare minimum is literally in hell. Just wanted to praise the girls since they've been at a lot of events recently and they're performing like they're fighting to debut lol Itzy ❤️❤️❤️ submitted by /u/Gold_Meaning3688 [link] [comments]

23. ILLIT deserves the biggest apology.

  • 6 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

ILLIT deserves a big apology. They have false accusations and plagiarism claims of copying NewJeans, in terms of aesthetic, concept and actions, claims by Min Hee-jin, associated with NewJeans. They suffer bullying and harassment from fans because of those accusations, they are constantly facing harsh criticism and harassment from NewJeans fans or related fanbases, including being called out publicly, losing brand deals, etc. They are not well protected by their company. ILLIT’s agency (HYBE & Belift) has not adequately protected them from the backlash, or helped at least to clear their name. They are getting reputational damage and emotional harm. Because of the accusations and the public disputes, they are losing opportunities, suffering stress, and having their public image tarnished even before any formal resolution. This is NOT fair, since ILLIT didn't do any of the things they’re being blamed for. There’s no proof of wrongdoing or evidence that shows all of this is true, they are being treated as guilty by public opinion. There should be accountability, and obviously, an apology. This is also their agencies fault, they have the responsibility to manage claims, protect their artists, and clarify misinformation, and... they don’t. In resume... all this damage for no reason is real (emotional, reputational, commercial), an apology IS needed. ILLIT needs and deserves justice. submitted by /u/witchvamplady [link] [comments]
