I’ve seen some people explain why they hate kpop so much and it’s always the same crap “i cant understand the lyrics” Like, ofc you cant! ITS IN A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE “they all look like girls/ they all look the same” NO THEY FRICKING DONT. if you actaully cared to look at their faces and see the differences, you wouldn’t think that. Stop being racist. Also, there are idols that aren’t asian, so you’re just being rude to them “the music sucks!” Okay, and? It just doesn’t suit your taste, saying it sucks is exaggerating “the guys wear make up, it looks gay/ they act gay”. Do i even need to explain this? EVERY CELEBRITY WEARS MAKE UP. And also, they do not “act gay”, they are just showing their affection toward each other, and stop being homophobic “they have no talent” THEY DO. why do you think kpop got so popular? They can rap, sing, and dance perfectly fine. In fact, they are amazing at it. They can dance perfectly synchronized too “the fans are unhinged” not all of them are tho? Stop judging the entirety of the fanbase based on a small part of the fandom. Everyone is different. People should rly stop hating on kpop for no apparent reason submitted by /u/Beautiful-Vast7545 [link] [comments]
Hello everyone! We are excited to take a trip back in time to revisit some K-Pop classics once again, continuing with this rate, the "Early Gen 3" Girl Groups Rate! (If you haven't already, make sure to join r/kpoprates to ensure that you stay updated on future rate-related posts!) Quick Links: Ballot submission: Link to Reddit Chat to message a ballot // Ballot template (Google Docs ver.) // Ballot template (Pastebin) Playlists: Spotify // Youtube (Audio ver.) // Youtube (Lyrics ver.) // Youtube (MV ver.) Deadline: July 7th (Monday), 11:59 Pacific (Link to a timezone converter) How the songs were selected: We used the /r/kpop Top Ten Tuesdays results to grab the most adored songs from each of the artists on Reddit, and we also had a songlist feedback survey on /r/kpoprates to help decide the songlist! Now, without further ado, let's introduce the 55 songs (& 7 bonus songs) that were selected for this rate, ordered chronologically for each artist (artists were also ordered by debut date): . Spica: Russian Roulette You Don’t Love Me EXID: Every Night Up & Down Ah Yeah Hot Pink Night Rather Than Day DDD I Love You HelloVenus: Wiggle Wiggle I’m ill Mysterious Crayon Pop: Bar Bar Bar AOA: Miniskirt Short Hair Like a Cat Heart Attack Good Luck 10 Seconds Excuse Me FIESTAR: One More You’re Pitiful Ladies’ Code: Pretty Pretty Galaxy The Rain BESTie: Love Options Excuse me Mamamoo: Piano Man You’re the Best Décalcomanie Starry Night Egotistic Wind Flower Gogobebe HIP Laboum: Journey to Atlantis Hwi Hwi Lovelyz: Ah-Choo Destiny WoW! Now, We That Day Sonamoo: Friday Night GFriend: Me Gustas Tu Rough Navillera Fingertip Time For The Moon Night Apple Mago Brave Girls: Deepened Rollin’ We Ride Chi Mat Ba Ram After We Ride . Bonus Rate: The bonus rate is basically an extension of the main rate! There were several songs that received high praise during the songlist feedback survey that still were barely not able to make the main rate, so we have put them into the bonus rate here to give them a chance to be rated. . EXID - Lady HelloVenus - Venus Crayon Pop - FM Fiestar - Mirror Ladies’ Code - Bad Girl Laboum - Between Us GFriend - Labyrinth . The Bonus Rate is optional and you do not have to submit a score for every song in the bonus list if you do it: you can score none of them, all of them, or any number in between. You cannot give a 0 or 11 to any song in the bonus, as they are not part of the main rate. While it is optional, we hope you consider participating. Spotify playlist YouTube playlist (MV version) YouTube playlist (Audio version) YouTube playlist (Lyrics version) Rules: You must listen to and assign a score to EVERY song listed. If your ballot is missing any scores it will not be eligible and you'll be sent a message asking you to fill in the missing scores. Each song should be assigned a score between 1 to 10. Decimals up to one point are allowed but any further is a no-no – 6.9 is fine, but 6.99 is not. You can use ONE 0 and ONE 11 for the entirety of the rate, for your least favorite and most favorite song respectively - they are optional but HIGHLY encouraged if you feel some type of way about any given song! Comments are also encouraged but not required for such scores (except if you give a song a 0). Comments are encouraged and much appreciated (but not required, except for if you give a 0) and can be added to any song by simply typing after the numerical score, like so: Hip: 2.4 Ofc the title track that utilizes Mamamoo's vocal power the least ends up becoming the most popular (yells angrily at cloud) This is the ONLY correct way to format a comment. Please do not include colons (ex. 9: I stan!), dashes (ex. 3.3 - This song sucks), or any other symbol after your score/before your comment as it breaks the program. You can also give comments for individual artists! Just write your comment after the :, such as the following: EXID: Are they pronounced like "exit" or are you supposed to say every letter separately? I'll never know For this rate and most future rates, we have a ballot average minimum of 4.00. In addition, if your ballot average is between 4.00-5.50, you must leave comments on your lower scores (which we define as any score that's a 3 or lower). {Do not worry about having to calculate your ballot average, once you submit your ballot, we will tell you if you need to make changes to your ballot for it to be accepted.} SUBMITTING A BALLOT: * Link to Reddit Chat to message a ballot As Reddit is (unfortunately) moving away from the private messaging system in favor of utilizing the Reddit chat system, we are forced to also adopt the Reddit chat system for messaging. You can make a copy of either the Google Docs or Pastebin ballot templates below, add your scores on your local copy/file, and send the link to your local copy/file in your Reddit Chat message to u/KpopRates_Ghost. * Google Docs ballot template * Pastebin ballot template Google spreadsheet template that you can use to calculate averages, record scores, and make predictions Alternatively, if you have Discord, you can message the link to your ballot to both the rate hosts, @Zypker124 and @aidshha. You can also submit the top/bottom 5 prediction form at any time. DUE DATE: Monday, July 7th, by 11:59 PM Pacific - This will be the FINAL deadline, no extensions will be given this time! This megathread is about the ongoing dispute within HYBE and the management of sub-label ADOR. Substantial news developments may be posted to the subreddit (outside of the Megathreads). Moderators will only approve posts that focus on statements by relevant parties, official representatives, or legal authorities. Unofficial commentary, fandom activities, speculation, or blind items will not be acceptable. Articles or translations should ideally be presented as neutrally as possible. Articles / Timeline 250422 This day marks one year since HYBE launched their audit of Min Hee Jin and ADOR's management. Happy(?) 1st anniversary of the Megathreads! 250502 The 3rd hearing for Min Hee Jin vs. Belift Lab was set to take place but postponed to July 18th at Belift Lab's request. Each side is due to present their arguments/documents regarding plagiarism issues at the next meeting. (Source: Maeil Kyungjae) 250530 We learned that ADOR had filed for 'indirect enforcement' after their injunction was granted and NewJeans performed at ComplexCon back in March (Filed on April 4th according to the statement from NewJeans' representatives linked below). On the 30th, the 52nd Division of the Seoul Central District court further granted this request. The 'indirect enforcement' ruling means that each individual member of NewJeans will be fined 1 billion won (approx. $725,000) if they continue with entertainment activities independent of ADOR, which would be in violation of the injunction. This enforcement with potential fines does NOT apply to any of NewJeans' independent activities between the granting of the injunction and the granting of this 'indirect enforcement'. These fines will only apply to future activities going forward, or at least until rulings with NewJeans' appeal or the main contract validity case changes anything (next hearing on June 5th). (Source: Chosun Biz, MK Sports) The Korea Herald: Court orders NewJeans to pay Ador 1 billion won for each unauthorized activity Discussion Post Korea JoongAng Daily: Court orders NewJeans members to pay ADOR $725,600 for every independent entertainment activity A statement by NewJeans' representatives was made later in the day primarily acknowledging the indirect enforcement ruling, but reiterating that it is temporary and will no longer have an effect if NewJeans win their appeal of the injunction. (Source: Ilgan Sports) The 2nd hearing for Source Music's damages lawsuit against Min Hee Jin took place at the 12th Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Western District Court. (Quick recap: 1st was January 10th, 2nd was previously scheduled for March 14th, postponed per Source Music's request). Legal representatives were present. Source Music had a 20-minute presentation prepared, but Min Hee Jin's representatives objected to the inclusion of KakaoTalk messages in the presentation. They claimed the messages were illegally obtained and requested the hearing to be closed/private. Source Music denied the messages were obtained illegally, claiming they were gained from company devices with consent. The court went with a temporary compromise to keep the hearing public, but not allow discussion/display of the messages until they were reviewed again. A special hearing to review the messages will take place June 27th. (Source: Sports Today) 250605 The Seoul Central District Court Division 41 held the second hearing for ADOR seeking confirmation of validity for their exclusive contract with NewJeans. Only legal representatives were in attendance. NewJeans' side primarily argued that ADOR had not met their obligations and that their evidence they were preparing to support NewJeans' activities, like finding a new producer, was inadequate. ADOR's side argued that NewJeans' reasons for allegedly terminating their contract continually changed, indicating they are arbitrary and being made up with retroactive hindsight. The issue of some evidence being collected illegally also came up again from NewJeans' side. Judge Jung Hoe-Il specifically inquired if both/either sides were willing to come to an agreement, encouraging them to do so. NewJeans' representatives strongly indicated this was unlikely as the trust in ADOR had completely collapsed. ADOR's representatives indicated they could see negotiating an agreement once the court comes to a final decision. The 3rd hearing was set for July 24th. (Sources: X Sport News, Maeil Kyungjae) 250612 The next hearing regarding the Shareholder Agreement termination and exercising put/call options lawsuits between HYBE and Min Hee Jin was held at the Seoul Central District Court's 31st Division. Arguments from each side mostly re-tread what we've already covered. HYBE's side argued they were justified in ending the shareholder agreement due to the threat Min Hee Jin posed to the company. Min Hee Hin's side argued the timing of the audit/termination did not align purely with that concern and that some KakaoTalk messages and emails were obtained illegally and not admissable as evidence. HYBE also indicated they had a witness to give testimony at the next meeting, which the court accepted. The next hearing with closing arguments, was set for September 11th for both lawsuits. (Sources: Maeil Kyungjae, TV Daily, Sports Today) 250617 Following up from April 16th when NewJeans appealed the court's decision to uphold the injunction and halt on their independent activities, the Seoul High Court reaffirmed the earlier decision. The court rejected NewJeans' appeal. They determined there was no significant change in the material/arguments presented for the appeal and the original decision to grant ADOR's injunction was justified. There was further clarification that the management conflict between HYBE and Min Hee Jin, and her no longer being NewJeans' producer, did not constitute a valid argument for the alleged collapse of trust between ADOR and NewJeans. The group's withdrawal from ADOR is considered arbitrary, that their artistic freedom or activity is not impeded since they are able to do so within their exclusive contract, and that any damages resulting from attempting independent activities are self-inflicted. Ew trump. I do not support any misogynistic, white nationalist, incel, hitler-like (esp. Musk), racists at all and neither does this sub and apparently neither does reddit as a site as a whole. He stands against everything Kpop stands for which is an art form from a formerly colonized people from a country that is rising up against colonialism and hatred. The subreddit is mostly uncensored as long as people follow the rules. Generalizing statement about Korea, Korean society, etc or most other countries are not acceptable except under the following standards: The only claims that are acceptable when generalizing Korean society in this sub are those that bring up generalizable stastical claims by the standards of the international statistics institute. Not only do the vast majority of stastistics you can find on the internet about Korea not up to this minimum, basic standard but this requirement includes having ample sample size, blocking by relevant demographics and sometimes even double blind tests. So if you make a generalizing claim, your wording must be properly formatted and links to the relevant studies provided. In other words, the standard for making a generalization is very high in this sub. Not to mention the wording for your claim has to be properly made. Anyone who has taken a college level statistics class will know what I am talking about and we may even require you to provide the confidence level interval if it's relevant for your study. If you cannot meet these standards, I would just avoid doing it in general. submitted by /u/Kpop_Love_Forever [link] [comments]

K-pop isn’t the same anymore and I know EVERYONE can feel it, but what people don’t talk about is the fact that I don’t feel like home whenever I interact with K-pop stans. I took a hiatus from posting on my tiktok because I felt like I was going to run the risk of getting harassed, death threats or even doxxed if my videos were to go to the wrong side of tiktok’s algorithm. All I ever did was post fun videos of me enjoying K-pop. Me going to a concert, talking about events I’ve been to, opening albums, talking about members I really like, etc. Just normal K-pop things, but it wouldn’t be normal to the people who find my posts to be weird. All I wanted was a safe space to enjoy my interests, and to have at least one person in every post to comment under my posts but they don’t always happen. People expect me to look this aesthetically pleasing K-pop content creator when I am just a K-pop fan just like everyone else, who has celebrity crushes, likes to read fanfiction and enjoys fandom banter. I fear that those days are forever gone as more and more people choose to stand still at concerts for the “perfect video” rather than a shaky, imperfect video that showed how much fun they had. I’ve seen so many people get harassed for simply being normal K-pop fans with a crush, and they get seen as weird or obsessive which they’re now made to feel uncomfortable coming online all together after a random person makes a twitter thread about them just for not liking them. I’ve seen some of my favourite content creators go through the same thing, and it totally sucks. I feel like I don’t fit in with the K-pop fandom nowadays. I feel like they’re either too stuck up that they like to call K-pop fans who know their faves’ anniversary and birthday dates (or whatever fandom activity that involves any sort of effort other than streaming) “parasocial”, or they’ll be weird, crazy, obsessed stans that harass people on Tiktok or Twitter for the sake of harassing people and I never felt like there’s a middle ground for anyone who feels like me where all they want is to be a normal fan who just wants to partake in fandom culture that isn’t just “dancing” (such as watching official content, learning about the members, fanfiction writing, fanarts and edits appreciation, celebrity crushes, etc) but still be sane enough to know that they can’t have them without anyone telling or reminding everyone since we’re in this big inside joke together. Does that sound like 2014? It sure is. I just want that one K-pop friend to talk to that we are on the same wavelength as… that’s it. I hate feeling like I’m one post from ruining my life. I just want to be a normal K-pop fan in peace. I just want to enjoy my interests in peace. submitted by /u/AsianMoot3317 [link] [comments]
I don't mean conspiracies that you think could be real. I mean takes that are so out there, they make you wonder if that person has any connection to reality. Doesn't matter if it's a weirdly popular one or just a single post that made you go wtf. I want the truly wild stuff you've seen. submitted by /u/azureleaf [link] [comments]
It's well known that kpop takes a lot from the West, but this time it feels especially shameless. In Soyeon's recently solo song MV, multiple scenes, shot for shot, are copied from Yseult's music video. This isnt her first rodeo either, as she has plagiarized music before, as well. Western artists, but more specifically, black artists need to be given more credit and treated with more respect from the kpop sphere. But that doesnt look to change any time soon, unfortunately, seeing what we have here. submitted by /u/Lost-Investigator266 [link] [comments]

Groups like LE SSERAFIM, aespa, BLACKPINK, etc. are performing on American TV shows, doing interviews, late night appearances, even award show stages. But when you look back at 2nd gen legends like SNSD, Wonder Girls, KARA, T-ARA, it feels like they never got that same level of U.S. attention. They were very talented and I would say, pretty much to up to par as the popular groups today. Other than Wonder Girls briefly promoting in the U.S., you never saw 2nd gen idols on big American talk shows or mainstream interviews. No Jennifer Hudson, no Fallon, no GMA. It kind of feels unfair considering how much groundwork they laid for K-pop’s global popularity. Seems to be that the U.S. simply did not care back then, unless there's a better reason that I may not know about. Curious to hear your thoughts, submitted by /u/savingrace0262 [link] [comments]
I’ve been thinking about how often this pattern repeats in K-Pop fandoms: a Black person points out a valid issue, racism, plagiarism, or cultural insensitivity, and somehow they become the villain. Take the recent case with Yseult, a French Black artist. Her work was clearly plagiarized by a Korean artist. Naturally, she tagged the producers and the people involved — including Soyeon, who happened to appear in the MV. Instead of focusing on the plagiarism itself, K-Pop stans (especially Soyeon’s fans) turned against Yseult. She ended up being harassed and flooded with racist DMs, even though she’s literally the victim. We’ve seen this before: ENHYPEN — when fans thought a member said the N-word, Black fans who spoke up got told “unstan then we don’t need Black people in this fandom anyway.” NCT (Jaehyun) — when he allegedly mouthed the N-word, the fans expressing disappointment were bullied and silenced. Crush — he was accused of ignoring Black fans during a concert. Whether or not it was a misunderstanding, the fan who shared her feelings ended up getting mass-reported and told to apologize. It’s such a consistent pattern: whenever anti-Blackness in K-Pop surfaces, the Black victims or fans are punished for speaking up. It’s exhausting. submitted by /u/chrisomi9 [link] [comments]

Seriously tho, why are people still surprised by how nasty these two fandoms can get every single day? I’ve been seeing a bunch of posts lately sharing small bits from the daily fights between these two fandoms on Twitter/X — and honestly, why are people acting like this is something new? Are we really new to this fact? Because from what I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot), this isn’t anything shocking. Both sides have had their fair share of messy moments, and it’s been going on for years. It’s literally an everyday thing across multiple platforms, with Twitter/X being the main battlefield. People there love to hate-farm for likes and retweets — it’s ridiculously easy to get engagement if you say something out of pocket. Even some Korean web media outlets jump in just to ride the wave and boost their numbers. That’s why it’s so hard to tell what’s actually true on X anymore. Unless something’s verified by multiple reliable sources outside of the fandom bubble, you really can’t trust anything that comes out of those fights. submitted by /u/Daddy1007a [link] [comments]
